Why am I getting so sick? :o(
So today's a big "cheat" day for me...didn't even log my calories. My friend is having a beer-b-que and I'm home at 11:15 because I'm SO SICK![]()
I've been having some 'issues' since october, went to the GI doctor and got tested for celiac, crohn's, colitis, etc. all negative just left me hanging on why I was going 5-8 times a day or not going at all for days....so I began to eat really healthy (for a 19 yr old) I stopped drinking and now I eat very very healthy (lots of fruits and veggies, chicken, turkey, high fiber, wheat bread..you know the drill) and all week I eat so healthy to cheat a little on the weekends (I'm 19 I can't strap myself down too much this young!) I planned for an extravagant cheat day today and last Saturday for my fourth celebration with my family and both days I'm so so so so sick. Going to the bathroom a lot, stomach pains, heartburn, and my stomach is very oddly bloated in one small area in my upper torso..Today I didn't eat that much...maybe 2300 calories and not all food that's terribly bad for me..I'm 19 I should be able to snack on chips and cookies and have hot dogs and cheeseburgers every once in awhile!
why am I getting so sick
i just want to enjoyyy my cheat days! I can't sit at bbq's and restrict myself, I shouldn't have to I'm young and it's hard enough not drinking.
Do you have a food allergy?
I have heard that some GI docs recommend low carb diets for diarrhea. Worth a try? Good luck.

has your doctor mentioned the possibility of IBS?
has your doctor looked at you for gall bladder problems? You are young so it would not be first on the list, but it sounds like you have all the symptoms that I had when I had an attack for the first time at 26. The doctors looked for everything else in the sun first because I wasn't "old" (meaning over 40)
Thanks for the suggestions...I'm going to see a food allergist next week to see if that is a possibility...and with IBS that's what I thought was going on but he never said anything he just left me hanging after my last tests came back negative and put me on re-call in 3 months...and the problem with the lo-carb thing is that I do a complete 360 and then NOT go which I think can be just as bad.
Coach-k--never even thought of it and don't know anything about it, but I will talk to my parents and doctor.
thanks for the help
Have you tried giving up gluten just to test the Celiac's Disease theory? I know many people who's CD blood test came back negative but found that it was a false negative (apparently very common according to my allergist). The best thing to do is to go gluten free/dairy free for 4 to 6 weeks if you want to test it. The dairy free part is because many people with CD become lactose intolerant when their body is damaged.

I have not tried giving it up altogether...my blood tests came back showing low IGA's which I guess is a sign of celiac so my doctor did and upper endoscopy and biopsy of my small intestine which he said was the most accurate in diagnosing celiac and the biopsy came back negative, but I am setting up another appointment tomorrow so I will bring it up...thank you![]()
Ohh I see. I had a doctor who REFUSED to test me for it, even though I have a family history of it. It turns out that I am literally worst-case scenario too! I know how much it sucks to have this horrible problem so I wish you all the luck in the world! Let me know how it turns out for you!
man, i'm sorry that sounds like it sucks a lot. have you tried just cutting out dairy? because that could be it. you should try it.
i have ibs (which is similar to crohn's which my mom has) and i'm suppose to avoid alcohol, dairy, fried/fatty foods and get a decent amount of fiber. so maybe just try to cheat in away that avoid really bad things but still lets you eat food that you normally wouldn't allow.
hey..I'm sorry to hear about that. I had a similar thing for many years until I cut out white flour...i drives my stomach crazy! I cut out dairy first and nothing changed, but as soon as I switched to whole-grain bread and whole-wheat pasta my stomach bloating and pain went away.....i would suggest cutting out things one at a time...try a week of no dairy and see how you feel...then try a week of no white pastas and breads and see how you feel...it really sounds like you are allergic to something!
Good luck and best wishes
Have you already been tested for food allergies? I have a friend that has had symptoms similar to yours for years. She had a lot of tests including for Celiac and they were all negative. She went to a different doctor recently and it turns out she is allergic to gluten. The symptoms are very similar to Celiac but she doesn't have that. Anyway - since she has been eating gluten-free only she has been feeling much better. Just a thought. She also steers clear of dairy.
Hope you feel better soon!! Good luck... try going gluten-free and dairy-free for a few weeks and see how you go.
My friend is a lot better but after ~2 months she is still getting over some of the original symptoms she had.
Thanks everyone
I'm going to try cutting things out of my diet one week at a time and see if it helps...I set-up an appt with a food allergist as well. Hopefully this will get figured out! I'm sick of always being sick!
