Sick :( and soup ideas would be great!
I love soup, and I ususally go to the chinese restaurant and get soup when I am feeling sick, but I know that is not very healthy. If anyone has any soup recipes or ideas please, please help.
Reason: Moved from Foods to Recipes
Actually, soup is probably one of the healthiest options (outside of steamed veggies!) from a Chinese! High sodium, though, but even then when you're super sick that shouldn't matter quite so much. Well, depending on the illness.
However:
Hot & sour vegetable soup with tofu
Hot & sour broth with noodles
Hearty pasta soup <-- this one is GOOD!
Sweet potato & chilli soup
Chicken noodle soup
I also saw this on the TV the other day. Some of the ingredients are a bit more of a stretch so consider this only if you've got a cold that looks like it won't go, or you're REALLY suffering (and if you can actually make it to a health store!) but it looks quite tasty!

Scroll down to "Goji berry and chicken soup for colds and flu". :]
When you're sick, I think it's good to eat whatever your body craves (within reason of course). If you want to up health-factor, making your own soup can be really easy. Just get some low sodium chicken or veggie broth (or whatever kind you like) and add veggies, noodles, rice, beans, or whatever you have around. Just cook the ingredients as you normally would in water.
When I'm sick I see to lose all delicate taste so I love spicy things...plus they clean out my sinuses.
If I feel really crappy and dont want to cook I will take a mixed frozen vegetable blend microwave it, add in a chicken broth, add some red curry paste and grated ginger.
Warms me all up :)
I actually found V8 soups quite impressive. They are non fat, but high in sodium :(
I love soups when I'm sick as well, and this book is great for making soups.
1,001 Delicious Soups and Stews: From Elegant Classics to Hearty One-Pot Meals
ISBN-10: 1572840919
I like the way it breaks down the calories, fat, sodium, etc. It a great way to eat soups for around 3 to 4 hundred calories. Hope you feel better.
I love to make soups and make them quite often. I have a ton of recipes, but sometimes, I just put in it what I am craving. I always always use stock, not broth. There are some great stocks out there and vegetable is one of my favorites. To make a base for any soup use onions and garlic. Celery is good if you have it on hand. I also put carrots in my base. Use a tablespoon or more of olive oil and cook the veggies until they become somewhat transparent. Then great things to add are summer squash, fresh tomoatoes, mushrooms, potatoes, beans (small white ones that are canned are great) and spinach at the very end. Unless you want like a chicken soup then use chicken broth and some noodles...yum. I hope you feel better soon.
