Side effects from birth control pills?
Ok, here's a little backstory. I have been on some form of birth control pill for about 10-12 years. Started out on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen, then my insurance switched and I started getting a generic form. I've been on both Trinessa and Tri-Sprintec and a few others that I have forgotten the name of.
It just switched again within the last few months, back to Trinessa. Since then, my weight loss efforts have completely stalled, even though I have been eating really well and working out. Then, a few weeks ago, I started having some really odd symptoms- nausea, headaches, sore boobs, bloating, fatigue, etc.....thought that I might be pregnant, but I wasn't. I started feeling better, and actually felt no symptoms like this during my "off" week from the pills....until this Sunday, when I started the new pack. Now, suddenly I have this gross bloaty, nauseous feeling again.
My question, I guess, is, has anyone else started suddenly feeling side effects from birth control after being on it for so long? Maybe they changed the formula or something, or maybe it's just the switching back and forth between the generic brands? Anyone have any feedback on Trinessa, specifically?
Any feedback appreciated. Thanks! :)
Yes. From what I've seen, many women who have tried different birth control pills and methods have different side effects than someone else. Everyone's bodies react differently to the hormones in birth control.
I was on all different kinds of pills for many years. They all had some side effect. I finally went on NuvaRing for a few years and didn't have any side effects at all. I thought though that maybe that was a cause for my not being able to lose weight. I've been off of NuvaRing for about 5 months and havent noticed any change. I am not on Apri - a generic pill. I now have headaches every day (again) and am VERY moody. I want to go back to NuvaRing but can't afford it. Apri is $10 a month and NuvaRing is $40.
I want to switch to another pill until I can find something I can tolerate. Going to be calling my doctor soon.
I'd say switch to a different generic brand or a progestin only pill if you are willing to try that.
Good luck!
I actually just went off the pill after 12 years. It was severely affecting my sex drive, and I only ever really felt emotionally normal on the off days. I tried a whole bunch of different ones. tri cyclin was the worst. it made me totally INSANE!
My doctor told me that it is actually the progesterone that cause mood swings, and that some of the synthetic progesterones are worse than others. through my whole history with Bc I have always been nauseous for the first 3 or so days. apparantly that just happens sometimes. I am thinking of switching to an IUD, am lucky and I think my insurance will cover it, perhaps yours will too?
