What is your signature Karaoke song?

Quote  |  Reply

Do you have a staple song that wins the crowd over every time?

I read on collegehumor.com that the average age of the karaoke-bar enthusiast is 24, so choosing a song should coorelate to the era of music most familiar to that demographic.

What are your thoughts?

I've never really done it.

"The Humpty Dance"  or "Bust a Move."

Actually, I usually do "Son of a Preacher Man"... that one kills most of the time because everyone knows it.

What else I'll sing tends to depend on what crowd I'm out with.  I tend get requests for certain songs from certain friends :)

It doesn't win over anyone because my singing sounds like a dragging muffler down a concrete driveway, but Rhinestone Cowboy is MY SONG. It's usually met with a sea of blank stares and sometimes pointing and cringing.

Also, "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey.

Dolly Parton - 9 to 5

All ages know it and sing along

Faith by George Michael, because I start with my back to the audience and shake my butt.

Or Total Eclipse of the Heart, because I can belt that one out like a crazy person.

I've never done it before, but if I did, I think it'd be Cecelia by Simon and Garfunkel

I am really good at Because of You by Kelly Clarkson.  I did that at the state fair and got a pretty good response.

Karaoke rooms are really popular here (you pay $10-30 for a room, depending on how nice the place is, and just sing with your friends). I never thought I'd go to one but after some drinks, it's hard to refuse.

"Ring of Fire" (Johnny Cash) and "Every You, Every Me" (Muse) seem to be two I sing everytime... along with a couple Korean songs ("Lies"--Big Bang and "Fan"-- Epik High).

Karaoke has always intrigued me, but I've never been brave enough to actually do it. For one my voice sounds like a cat being stepped on and I'm a nice person so I wouldn't do that to the people. Lmao.

I think "Livin on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi would be a fun song to sing. :P With a group of friends one time at a bowling alley they started to play the "Ghostbusters," song and my friend's and I started singing or umm screaming along to the lyrics and people at the bowling alley just looked at us like we were crazy. Ha ha. Good memories...

:)

"I want you to want me" - Cheap Trick

I honestly cannot carry a tune,, but after a few drinks I have been known to do

I will survive

or Holla back girl. lol

"Killing Me Softly"

"You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" -- Lou Rawls

*blinks at "Rhinestone Cowboy"*

Anyone for "Wichita Lineman"?

I've only done it once, but I did a solo of Black Velvet and a duet of Don't Go Breakin' My Heart...

Anything by Martina McBride or JoDee Messina.  Laugh all you want, but my voice is most like theirs.  Therefore, the songs they sing tend to sound the best with my voice as well.

My favorites are "This One's For the Girls" and "Independence Day" and "Bring on the Rain"  (all by Martina or JoDee)

The closest thing I could call a signature karaoke song for me would be "Do you think I'm Sexy", but I only did that once, in college, on a dare.  I'm sure it was putrid, but the memory is kind of fuzzy.  I doubt I could do it again without sufficient chemical encouragement.

Drops of Jupiter by Train.  I can really belt this one out.  Usually earns me a standing ovation ;)

Anything Britney, usually "Crazy" works the best.  As long as you can pull the head voice that she does it's all good.
