Essentially, a deficit of 3500 calories equals 1 pound. In a week if you cut 3500 calories off the total you need (or your maintenance level) you will lose a pound.

If you are young and active - you probably need that many calories to safely lose weight in a healthy way. If you are suspicious, check your activity level in your account - set it to sedentary and log in you extra exercise each day. Then eat 500-750 calories less than you burn.
