Silly Food Craving Question

hi, so this may seem like a silly trivila q, but still sort of wondering...

I've been craving peanut butter and fruit+nut trail mix.  yesterday i had about 1/5 cups worth of trail mix and about 5tbspns of PB, through out the day.  im STILL wanting these foods.  i dont restrict them normally and they r a routine part of my daily diet.

does this mean anything or am i just simply wanting these foods.  suffering+trying to recover from an ED for so many yrs got me in the habit of ignoring food+hunger craavings, im just curious if this is just a normal food craving, or if it actually has some sort of meaning.

hum..I think it's because trail mix and PB are yummy and very dangerous. Maybe it's meaning that producers use crack or other drugs?

Or maybe you want another answer, lol.

 

ha, yes, it must be that pesky previous drug addiction i once had!

perhaps im just not used to craving a certain food, it happens SO rarely, i like it but its a rare rare happening.  just wondered if it meant anything, a lack of protein, idk?

if anything id say its fats you're craving. i dunno know how you are on the fat intake normally - but it sounds like its a fat craving!

I went through a phase once of always craving stuff like peanut butter and pistachios, I put it down to a lack of protein. I think I read somewhere once lack of protein can make you crave pb but as fidget said Id also look at your fats.

i probly lack everything, i mostly live on bread + cereal, lol, well not really but im thinking low on fat is a better guess.

how can i increase this?

i cant eat cheese or too much dairy bc of IBS issues.

i know i can use oil, what else? thanks! i do use full fat mayo in my lunch sandwiches

nuts, meats?, cream, avocado. chocolate.

yeah i know loads of ppl will screech 'oh nooo not saturated fats'. but everything in moderation. also seeds are great source of fat and flax seed in particular.

also udos oil.... excellent stuff!

i dont care about saturated or whatever, im not 1 of those health concious ppl tbh

well i eat an ounce of almonds everyday, plus about 1/3 cup at least of trail mix which includes almonds+peanuts.

chocolate i have almost daily, flax seed ive never seen or used, cream-how?

do you eat pasta's? well you could have a tomato based sauce and mix cream in to make it creamier, or put some cream on your porridge!! you can buy flax seed in packets - its v v good for you. you sprinkle it on top of stuff.

udos oil - google that. its really really excellent for you. great for mood and overall health!!

hahaha, udos is a type of oil?  i thought u meant like oodles of it, as in a lot of oil!! haha never heard of that!

i dont know what cream is, is what i mean, sour cream? whole milk? we dont cook in my house and i guess i just dont know what u mean? i dont eat tomato sauce either bc of bad GERD.  i have a lovely body, huh?

i just cant stop the trail mix, i just had more and now my stomach hurts.

Are the cravings in response to anything. Is there something that you hear or see before the craving occurs?

Apparently, psychologicaly speaking, most cravings are not biologicaly based. Apparently you dont actually crave certain foods because your body needs it or whatever, apparently it is in response to a verbal or visual cue. You may not even know that it is happening or that the cue is present. For example, you are going about your business and in the background people are talking about nuts, or there is an advertisment on the tv or on the back of a bus as it goes by you when youre walking down the street. You dont automatically think, ohhh i want that (although im sure it does work that way often) but the idea slips into your subconscious. Later you crave whatever item it is.

I say all this as apparently because i know that when i crave sugar it is in fact in response to low blood sugar. Every time it happens if i were to test my blood sugar it would be super low.

But ive also read in my psych texts and courses etc that cravings are not biological but in fact psychological.

I duno, i say eat the nuts. Youre still gaining right? SO is it so bad that you eat the nuts.  

 

I say eat the PB and trail mix but stay down wind of your friends.

I think its the change of season and our bodies still require and desire certain nutrients. Nut/Fruit cravings are common in women depending on time of month AND year. I understand and relate to the craving and to be honest I crave nuts and red wine this time of year.

ugh, i just had over 500 cals worth of trail mix, in addition to the rest of my "snack" i just cant stop, i dont get it?

im not instarvation mode, i dont think, been averaging over 2500 cals, y am i still eating like this? im at nearly 3000

KAYEANNE-yes, bmi 19 rt now, wasnt thinking anything, just finished a snack and thought, mmmm, peanuts, then its all mixed together and voila, i finish the container!!?

BSH-no time of the month 4 me, no period, i always eat these foods, its just the past few days i scant stop and i OD!

agru - are these food cravings triggering bad thoughts? And when you say no period, do you mean you're amenorrhic?

I've just found the change of seasons to greatly impact my cravings. For example, come late May, yo quiero pineapple. When the fall comes and through the months september, october and november, I want peanut butter on something made with pumpkin and I want red wine virtually every night. I think we are more impacted by the season and the month than we know.

When I was 12 and had been bulimic and anorexic for 9 months, I started craving raisins. I'd come home from school and eat entire boxes of raisins - the big boxes. I think you are being intuitive. Just don't let it trigger Mr. ed, ok?

yes, amenorhea or wahtever, i take meds every 4 months but its not natural.

no bad thoguhts, just like the taste of the food.

ugh, dont even get me started on raisins! my entire life, i ate them till my head started pounding, all dried fruit, idk what it is.

I'm with you. Lately I have just been eating and eating and eating. I have had some food cravings and have felt very at ease indulging. That's why I think its the change of season.

hmm,but 3000 calories? really? seriously? it was ok the 1st time but now its like, wtf, y

because we were genetically designed to store fat for the winter! it's the truth!

Oh yes, I've been eating a heck of a lot more lately as well. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see another jump on the scale this Friday. Glad to know I'm not alone with this..

ugh, seriously, its dark at like 4:30 when im going home from work!! who wants to go ut and do anything  then, not me.  its so hard to get my ass out the door after work in the winter, its just sit+eat time!!
