Single people trying to lose weight? Sign up here

First off, I'm not trying to start a dating service or anything. But it seems almost everyone on CC is married and I know that can't be the case.

While it's great that they are married, single people have different reasons for losing weight, they have different pressures involved, and they don't have any spouse they can depend on for support.

I'm not saying it's harder, in fact we also have more time to dedicate to weight loss (saving single parents)

But this thread is for the single people I know there are on CC.

how about we unite! because there will most certainly be a war against the married people in the coming months (j/k)

I'll start. I'm 24. I've been single for about 4 years now. I got out of a long relationship with a girl that could've been the one, but we just were in two different places. Since then I went into a deep state of depression a few years back, and gained a bunch of weight in addition to pretty much giving up living life.

Well, I heard a song (Jimmy Eat World- 23) that changed my life, as corny as it sounds. Since then I have been working on different phases of getting my life back, and weight loss is now.

However, eventually I am going to try and tackle dating, and it's a scary thing. I've had a few encounters in these past years, but they just didn't work out.

Who wants to share similar stories? Don't leave my hanging people

Runner-girl Did you know our birthdays are only 2 days apart? Looks like we do have plenty in common. Im still new to this cc thing and havent figured out how to send email. haha But yea, vice versa if you need some motivation too.

I hate blind dates and online dating. Im kinda one of those in face people who has to meet someone in person before I would go on a date with them. I dunno they just seem ackward...

I always meet people whenever I go out, b/c I am one of those loud, crazy, outgoing people. Lately though, it seems everyone I have met has been loosers. For example, I met someone a few weeks ago at the bar and we exchanged numbers. A few days later maybe a week this guy calls me up asking me if I can find him drugs. WTF?! I am a classy looking girl who does not do that! I mean I love to drink but thats about it.

Has anyone had any similar horror stories??
starffy - LA is the worst for dating!

I lived in Hollywood for about a year before moving back to SF. And I have to say, the dating scene in LA is just near impossible. Because of the business, but also just because its socal, there is a considerably larger than average number of people that are in amazing physical shape.

And even those that arent, seem so accustomed to the level of total pretentiousness that you wouldnt want to date them anyway.

Good luck!
Welp I can really relate to the hook-up topic! Some people might like that but being a guy and all I like to be in control of who I persue!  I mean my mom is even trying to hook me up with dates and its just nerve racking!  And honestly more pressure than its worth!  I agree with shawnmax in the fact that there HAS to be a connection!  Then again I dont go out to often! Ah who knows!
hey guys just to reply from earlier ( I was leaving work)

the girl wasn't so awful she was nice. the situation was awful.

I mean I'll probably hang out with her because she is my good friend's friend and I just want it to be casual if it happens, and not awkward. I kinda already explained to her that I had reservations.

I mean she lives almost 2 hours away so it's not like I'm going to see her at every function. I just don't know how to tell someone who likes me that I don't feel the same way, because it hasn't happened in a long time.

Well, to everyone who is single, this is a moment in your life to work on yourself.  We all want to lose weight and decided to do so at this moment.  During this "single" time, we have the opportunity to maximize our potential.  I felt that it was for me to share this thought with everyone because it was shared with me.  This thought came right on time for me and hopefully it will be the same for you all.

I agree completely with Michaela!!!
I agree with that as well.

I'm not just trying to correct my fitness lifestyle, but my financial life as well, and planning for my future when I do meet someone i want to spend the rest of my life with.

I am being selfish right now, but I need to be. However I'm not shutting myself off from potential friendships and possibly romances just because of my situation.

I honestly didn't think I would relate so well to so many people. Thanks guys.
i'm single but i have kids - am i allowed?
lol of course.
I'm 20 and single.  I have had a total of two semi-long-term relationships in the past, each lasting a year or a bit more.  I tend to overthink when I don't feel the same anymore, so I wait to break up, then when it happens I tend to be so sick of the relationship that I ger the biggest high after finally being done with it.  I suppose that's better than being depressed about it, huh?
I'm on my way to lose 70 lbs, 7 pounds down, too many to go.  I have never really had self-esteem issues, so never had problems meeting guys, just problems with meeting the right one I guess.
I was attempting to start a diet and my most recent bf (was probably about a year ago this happened) kept telling me I didn't need to, and went as far to say I shouldn't, and used to try to feed me an crapload of food whenever I went to see him... that was part of what finally made me see that he was too insecure for me, and that I need better. I am a stong woman (hell, or girl, either way) and I need a strong guy, damnit!  That's where the issue lies, I always have wound up with insecure, whiney dudes that over time made me feel more and more like they were looking for a mother, not a girlfriend.
I have since decided that being single is great for the time being, cause I love being able to concentrate on me, and hang out with my girl-friends whenever I want without a guy telling me I need to hang out with him instead (one bf totally whined about me having a friend that I would hang out with 3 or 4 days a week, and only hung with him 2 or 3 days.... wtf is that!?!)

Also, I am in college, and love it.... may seem strange to some, but I rarely party, I seriously love learning which is why school kicks ass!

I just signed up for classes again. I graduated in December with my Bachelors in Buisness Mgmt and in August I am going back for my MBA.

Just basically looking for things to do to fill up my time. Maybe I wont meet as many loosers in grad school. lol

I sure hope true losers couldn't make it to grad school.... maybe just a few jerks, but at least they'll be on their way to having a good job :D

Those were my thoughts exactly. Well put Lala!
Hello all...I'm one of those single parents you've mentioned. I kind of like being single right now (I'm only 24), but I think it would be nice to date--I haven't dated since I left my husband. It'd be good because it's something to look forward to, plus of course the attention is always nice. Probably something that isn't in my immediate future, but I'm never one to totally rule anything out.
There's something that I think most of you need to understand - weight-loss doesn't automatically equal confidence.

I've always been very self-conscious and when I went from 180 pounds to 120 pounds two/three years ago, my self-consciousness didn't change.

The important thing is to feel comfortable in one's own skin, but there's no weight restriction to do so.
wouldn't happen to be a fan of preston and steve would you?
Me? o.O
Who are Preston and Steve? O.o

My goal is to loose 50 pounds in 7 months.
