I wear a size 8 and I was looking at a website that was upsetting me. An actress is called fat, (when I do not see that at all!) and nearly all the comments agree with that. But one comment made me feel fat and ugly...
http://www.tmz.com/2007/11/28/its-jennifer-lo ve-hewitt/5#comments
here is the comment
"57. 54...being a size 8-10 isn't normal. I am sorry. We think it is because of how fat we have gotten has a Americans. Look at European countries, they are much much healthier than we are. So you just keep those blinders on why don't you."
I don't want to eat my dinner now. :( What is your opinion on this??
Uhh.. It's TMZ. What do you expect?
It was also just a random person on the internet who wrote that - for all you know that person has an eating disorder and says those things to justify her unhealthy life. Seriously, if you can't ignore comments like this, you need to get off the 'net.
If you want, you could go find every comment that's been made on the internet in which an anonymous person said that all [insert sub group of the population - race, gender, size, religion] are ugly/stupid/evil.
seriously!?? don't let a comment on a website such as that put you down! Hell, I'm a size 8 and am damn proud of it!
I feel fat already :( and this just added onto it. They are not the only person, about 75% of the many comments on this are calling this actress fat when she isn't, but that one comment felt hurtful to me because that is the size I wear. I know they are just a random person on the internet but it still hurt my self esteem a bit. If she isn't 'normal' in some people's eyes for wearing a size 8, wouldn't that mean I wouldn't be too? I just really didn't like reading this.
on someone who's under 5'3 or 5'4? yeah size is kinda fat. on someone whos 5'10, no that is not fat.
Allykins:
Unfortunately, the web is full of these kinds of people. They're called 'Trolls'. Personally, I think size 8 is a smaller size, and I know many people who would kill to fit into a size 8 pants/dress. I remember when I was at my heaviest three years ago (almost 200 pounds and size 18), my husband's grandmother bought me a dress for Xmas and it was a size 8. It was the size I always wore as a teen and most of my 20's and I always considered myself chubby because in high school I was one of the heavier girls in my class--the vast majority weighed under 100 lbs. and wore size 0's and 2's. It was until I saw that dress that I realized that size 8 is actually pretty small. I wouldn't worry about what these people say--most of them either 12 years old or an adult whose only joy in life is belitting celebrities. All of them are also very ignorant--they don't realize that cameras add 10+ pounds to most people. I've met a few famous people and the one thing I've noticed with all of them is that they are all much thinner and more attractive than they appear on TV/pictures.
I am not a fan of Jennifer Love Hewitt at all, but even I think that people harassing her online about her weight is ridiculous. That girl is extremely thin. Just because she has hips and boobs doesn't make her fat.
If I were you, I wouldn't take it seriously and if it bothers you, avoid TMZ and another web site which I think is much worse for this kind of stuff--IMDB.
Some people are just hateful and critical. I think it's mostly a reflection on themselves. I've seen lots of women call other women fat just to make themselves feel thin.
Also, the internet is full of @ssholes misguided individuals who would never have the balls courage to say that out loud because they know society would judge them as being jerks (which they are).

I agree. It depends on your height. I had weight to lose when I was a size 8 (I'm 5'6"), but I wouldn't have considered myself "fat" per se, just a little chunky haha. But yeah if someone is 5'3" and wearing a size 8 then they most likely have some weight to lose (I'm sure this isn't true in all cases, so don't be offended if you're 5'3" and look great at a size 8. I'm just speaking in general.)
Also remember that celebrities are held to unrealistic unhealthy standards and tmz and similar sites are riddled with people denigrating celebrities as fat when they're actually underweight. I've always seen it as a pathetic attempt to feel better about their anonymous selves by putting down people they hunt these sites to read about.
I don't feel thin in a size 8, but neither do I feel fat. I was freakin' stoked to get into a size 8.
pfft.
Size is a number, I'm 5'4 and I am not fat at a sz 8. I have muscle definition and low body fat %. I also have wide hips and big boobs (and by 'wide' hips, I'm discussing bone structure, not fat distribution). For one, shape matters.
I've known women who look quite thin, and was surprised to learn they wore a sz 10, I've met women who look a little chubby, and was equally surprised to learn they wore a sz 6.
And yes, the standards for celebrities are insane. Many celebrities lose weight when they are preparing for roles, and gain a bit back when they are not. It's not healthy, and the weight doesn't usually sit well, and it contributes to the idea that we should all my naturally sticks, when even they put on a few when they decide to ... eat.
I was size 10 at my thinnest, in college, which was at the bottom of my healthy range, and actually was only SOME clothes. Others were size 12. And I had hipbones poking out.
This is ridiculous. People who make these kinds of statements have to be close to 5 feet tall, or they'd realize the insanity of it.
I am 5'3" and wear an 8/10. That is not normal. It is overweight. Some may call it chubby, others may consider it fat. "Normal" varies, but that does not mean I am not overweight by any standard.
But yeh, height matters.
allykins -
size, weight, etc - they are all just numbers. like other posts have said, there are so many other factors - body shape, muscle, bone size, breast size, etc.
i am 5'4, am 148 lbs. and wear a size 10. i am chubby, but not what most people would consider fat (i once was up to a size 14 - that was fat). i will be absolutely estatic to be in a size eight. after that i dont think my body can physically get much smaller (unless i lose muscle and have breast reduction surgery).
i believe a size 8/10 is actually average. don't sweat it.
Sizes vary so much from store to store and country to country that anyone making blanket statements that people of a given height wearing size 8-10 are fat is a rude idiot. Even within a particular country/store/brand, people with different builds are going to wear different sizes even if they're the same height and none of them are fat.
A woman wearing a size 8-10 is SMALLER THAN AVERAGE. Even in US sizes (and especially in UK sizes). She is usually at a healthy weight - though she may be on the higher end of the "healthy" range according to BMI if she is short. She may or may not be happy with her body and she may or may not want to get down to a smaller size, but she is not fat.

Holy moly are you kidding me?
Size is so much more than height. Bone structure, musculature and simple comfort all play a role in the size people wear. Not to mention what brand of clothes one is buying as each brand fits a little bit differently.
I am really suprised that people still think "size matters". Its not your size - its your health.
Oy save me from the size nazis
I'm in complete shock at darkylinky and jcl76.
WOW!
It says right in your statement jcl76 "I'm just speaking in general." You generalized people that size. madamq is right it's about health. You guys didn't even consider body shape, structure, comfort.. etc.
Someone here mentioned that they were around 5'3'' or 5'4'' and was in the 140's and was a size 8. That's AWESOME. Good for them for being healthy. I'm 5'3'' and At my lowest, 144, I was a size 5, but that's because I have no butt and small hips. So please don't generalize people. All people are different and please don't call someone or tell someone that size and height that they are "kinda fat" or "they have some weight to lose" They need to be healthy and happy with themselves.
As for the OP.. sweety 8-10 is completely normal & don't waste your precious time on comments posted on a website that makes 98% of their "info" up. Be healthy and happy and live life how you want not depressed because of someone's ignorant comment. Everybody's body is different. As for that actress I would kill for her body. She looks amazing & just because her size and weight fluctuate doesn't mean she's not normal. Just look at her.. she's at the beach smiling and having fun so obviously it doesn't bother her too much. She's healthy and happy and you should be too! :)
madamq and razure_rose: THANK YOU for your posts!! I read this thread all the way through and NO ONE was contradicting the people who agreed that a size 8 on a petite woman is "chunky".... i was getting pretty discouraged seeing as I am a size 6-8! ...and I am definitely not chunky by any means! So it was really good to see that there are still some people with realistic veiws on size/weight etc.
<3
Take into account two things:
1. People who spend time commenting on tmz's website are obviously obsessed with appearance and gossip, soy have a different standard for things like that. Also, it is pretty pathetic that they need to insult some celebrity over the INTERNET to feel better about themselves. They are wasting their energy insulting someone who doesn't even care! Ridiculous.
2. The average woman in america is a size 14/16. The average celebrity is probably a size 2. So when we see a celebrity with a body that would even be considered small by normal society, if it is larger than the average celebrity body, we think they're fat. Look at all the slime being thrown around about Jessica Simpson right now, and she has a freaking KILLER bod.
Well the media as well as society has made skinny and super thin the "realistic view" for these young girls out there who aren't happy with their bodies and there seem to be only a few people left out there who have truly realistic views and just want to be healthy and happy. I admit I had to work on my body image views for a while as well because I was beginning to be brainwashed by the media who thinks super model skinny is the norm and is beautiful and I still have to work on my views sometimes, but the truth is.. it's not realistic to be that thin for everyone's body type.
I will NEVER be a size two and I know that and I'm okay with that. It's just how my body is I inherited it from both sides of the family but honestly I don't want to be a size two. I don't want food or weight to control my life anymore and I think it will be even worse if I attempt to get down to an unhealthy weight that's not right for my body or my mental health.
It's true.. a size 8-10 doesn't mean someone is chunky, overweight, or chubby just because they are below 5'5''
ecwk6 is right. Listen to her.

Honestly I'm much more surprised by the fact you are so sensitive and sheltered than by the fact that there are websites bashing celebrities... hardly a new phenomenon; they are always either "wasting away" or "piling it on", usually on alternating weeks.

So you can keep track of what you eat - which enables you to analyze your foods and receive the following:

- Warning when you approach your daily calorie limit
