Skin Apron and Frying Pan Butt

Quote  |  Reply

So to all you 50-Somethings out there who have lost some weight and are exercising:  Is there any hope of losing my skin apron and firming up my butt?  I have been working out since September 08, and I don't know if I just need to continue exercising and/or change my type of exercise, or if I need to be reconciled to the fact that I've done some irreversible damage to my body with years of obesity and sloth.

PS - I had a nice round butt in my 20's so I know my current flat ass is not my natural build.

PSS:  My belly button frowns because of the skin hanging down from it.  Is this what tummy tucks are for?

I am getting a big kick out of your post.  I too have the same problem as you.  and thinking back on what my grandma and mom looked like. and sister(who is 13 years older than me) looks like now, I have pretty much reserved myself to the fact that I am stuck in my wilty, saggy, baggy body. lol!

I did belong to curves last year for several months though. and that did seem to trim me up quite a bit. (I was able to get into some jeans that I hadn't been able to wear in over a year) but quit going because they were never open when it was convenient for me to go.

have a great day, Barb

Looking at the "chicken wings" on my younger sister who is at a good weight and has never been very overweight brought home the fact that there is no turning back the clock.  Skin just starts to sag after a while.

I haven't lost as much as you have, but I have seen a lot of improvement in the "skin apron" after about six months (or maybe that is because I regained a bit of weight?).  Our skin will still snap back some, but there are limits.  We will never look 20 again.  The problem is that everyone is different.  I have read that you should reach your ideal weight and maintain it a year before talking to a plastic surgeon.  There are some really good sites maintained by cosmetic surgeons that clearly show what they can do and the scars you will have as a result.

hi mad4moon....just wrote a reply to your query and somehow sent it into cyberspace...????? so this is a recap of those earlier thoughts....first of all, thank you for all your wonderful, encouraging and positive responses to this group......i am celebrating your recent achievement.....regarding the "apron skin and  frying pan butt" : the answer to your question is yes and yes! you can shape your tuche and tighten your tummy with  interval strength training exercise...i too lost 55 pounds and was concerned about the baggy belly  and pancake flat jlo.....am now on phase 2 of becomingthinner me to polish off the remaining 34 pounds that will hopefully take me to being a smoking hot 60 something in august.....(well, smoking hot to an 80 something anyway)...i lost 10 inches in my midsection, 8 in my abs and so on doing weights with the guidance of a trainer......see my before and after pics at www.herstrengthdallas.com.. my jlo is actually perky now....i am not what you would consider to be a sporty spice personality  and as a matter of fact i don't like exercising but i love what it has done for my body......when i began i couldn't do 1 push up ,on monday i did 100!.....now participate in an extreme bootcamp with 20 somethings i could have birthed and i can go toe to toe with them in the most gruelling sessions..... those words are shared with you  in humility and gratitude to the trainer and his expertise  not to boast ..i get to class and put my brain on cruise....he is the sculptor....best of all i feel 30 again....of course,.consult with your physician before you start a program with weights and then know there are work outs for every level of fitness and ability.....strength training will refine your new figure and help lift and tone all the dimply parts .....will you be sore? absolutely! but it is the best kind of sore...kinda like the hunger pangs you spoke of in one of your replies...something you can live with and the results speak for themself..... good luck on phase 2 of your program ......feel free to inquire about any references or questions i may be able to help you with....if i can do this at 59 i know any woman can! girl power!

Thanks, becomingthinnerme!  I love the idea of being able to do pushups - I have always had the most noodly of arms.  So in addition to skin apron and frying pan ass I've got bat wings!

Part of my reward plan for goal (6 pounds away) is to meet with a personal trainer at the gym and set up a new work-out program.  I'm going to devote the next year to seeing just how toned I can get this soon-to-be 52 year-old body.  I've never been a Sporty Spice either (love that term) so you have encouraged me to shoot for the stars!

You don't sound like you're boasting at all, you sound very inspirational.

Excuse my ignorance:  What's "jlo" stand for?  All I could think of is "jit" ("junk in the trunk")...

well, mad4moon i can see you don't read the tabloids...a jlo is a nice way of saying fanny..short for jennifer lopez who is known for her curvacious rear end......Cool absolutely shoot for the stars...that's how we got to to the moon!

I'm sorry I can't help you (smile).  I am fighting with the fat hanging about my lower belly and the bat wings that are trying to help me to fly!!!

I am from Missouri...going on to age 52 (In October).  Started here on CC when I finally went under 350....Now, by the grace of God, I am 245.6.  I thank God.  I thank the members on this site...and I thank my doctor.
