my skin:( please help me ........(acne)
hi well you might already know but im recovering anorexic and i am eating alot better the past 2 weeks and my skin is breaking out like crazy........ this is really hurting me mentally...... i have always had such clear skin...... i cant even stand to look at myself and its not doing my anorexia and low self esteme any good.......
please if anyone know how i can help myself with this???
it seems to be mainly around my chin and mouth?
When you break out in that area, it's usually caused by stress. Needless to say, recovering from an ED will cause a LOT of stress. For the most part all I can say is calm down (Easier said than done, I know), don't touch your face unless you HAVE to, and keep it clean.
Your hormones are probably also kicking back into gear, which will cause breakouts like what you have described. I know pimples are NO FUN, especially if your skin has been clear for a long, long time.
If you need to, put teatree oil on your pimples or if you're cheap like I am (haha), use toothpaste. It will dry the pimples up and shrink them down.
Hang in there, you're on your road to recovery, this is only a small speed bump. :)
Good advice. I'm a recovering anorexic myself, yeah, I know, someone MY age, huh? But I hadn't had that ugly problem for years and recently I had some family problems that caused major problems and of course, first thing to happen was I started getting nauseous when I ate. When I started eating again, I didn't do much dairy or meat, so I didn't have the skin problems this time like I had before. I don't know if that will help you, spek, but it's worth a shot.
Blessings.

I had breakouts when I started eating again too. They've cleared up a lot now, so it's likely down to hormones being released again. :] Tea tree oil works wonders on drying out spots, and dire's suggestion of toothpaste is a good one too (I even use that if I get a coldsore, heh) as well as cleaning them gently with good old water. You've been doing really well, don't let spots get you down! :D
I have been having issues with acne lately too.... it was driving me crazy and made me feel ugly, like I wanted to put a bag over my head. I feel your pain. I checked around and ended up buying the acne program by Dr. Wexler. It's a 30 day trial kit that I bought for about $30-$40 at Bath and Body Works. I've only been using it a couple of weeks so far, but it seems to be helping. My skin looks better and my pores aren't so noticeable. It's guaranteed, so if I don't like it I can bring it back into the store and get my money back.
Please dont use toothpaste! I went through a similar thing, breaking out after gaining weight. I didn't have my first period until after I quit gymnastics.
Toothpaste does nothing good for your skin, it only dries it and it contains menthol, which is an irritant. I would try a gentle liquid soap like purpose or clinique mild, followed by neutrogena 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Wash 2x a day and be gentle woth your skin, irritation and rubbing will only cause inflamated pores, inflamation makes more pimples pop up. Apply a light moisturizer with spf in the am, I recommend purpose (again) or cetafil 15%. It seems counterintuitive-but you do need moisture, it keeps you skin from overcompensating and producing sebum (oil).
If that doesn't work you should see your Doctor or Dermatologist, he or she can put you on Dfferin or Benzaclin depending on the type of acne you have.

Also, where you are breaking out is hormonal acne, it may be beneficial to be put on the pill. As a recovering anorexic, the only pill I will take is yaz, it doesn't cause weight gain, and it evens out my moods and keeps my skin clear.
i don't particularly remember my skin breaking out during recovery, but i was mostly eating vegan so that could have had something to do with it. i sometimes have breakout problems though, and my dermatologist give me differin and it helps SO much. it doesn't even dry your skin out. i recommend going to the derm and getting some free samples.
Acne can be caused by vitamin deficiencies. Make sure you're getting enough of the B vitamins from whole grains. You need to read this page
i totally agree with lalabanana i tryed a face wash from tea tree products it does make product and i still use it every single night before i go to sleep
i really apprichiate all of this.......thank yu...... i have tried tea tree.. its very drying.......my skin looks horrible because i have dry skin and now it has red little spots all over it..... im cleaning it well but not much seems to be happening............
i never knew how upsetting pimple could be.
could this happen from eating to much tofu??
i eat 200 grams each day?
Breakouts around the mouth tend to be associated with the digestive system....so that makes sense if you are in recovery. I can break out around the mouth/chin area if I up my carbs too much, too fast. But don't let this hinder your recovery--you are doing a great thing!
While tea tree oil can be very beneficial to the skin, I would not recommend dabbing it directly on the skin. Doing so may cause redness & irritation.
Hope this helps some.....Best of luck to you....feel free to message me w/any questions, i am a licensed Esthetician
I also have dry skin, and my skin is ultra sensitive to anything.
I've been using this all natural product that I found online (for a few months now,) and it has definitely helped.

I use the face wash and moisturiser usually twice a day. It definitely hasn't irritated my skin at all.
I can't promise any results (everyone's skin is different,) but it's fairly cheap, so it might be worth giving a try.
Good luck with everything!
Ah, yes. Should've mentioned avoiding tea tree neat - I dilute the oil I use with a bit of water and wash my face in the water.
o.o Funny, I've never had trouble using a bit of toothpaste but that being said, I don't use it as a regular remedy and will probably avoid it from now on for those purposes after these posts '__' Thanks guys.
Spek: I don't think tofu'd be related to breakouts. o-o In fact, I think the zinc in tofu is meant to be good for spots. Still, as a reassurance, my breakouts were worse at recovery's start but my skin is now much happier :] So I think it may just be a reaction to hormones starting to work again. They'll go down!
like what she said that mostly the food that we eat is not realeted to the food we eat ( or that what i read ) , but on the other side i get pimples every time i eat chocolate or chips too mush ( it takes the fun away ) and the same thing happens to my friend .
you should try lemon juice its really great for the skin ( home made ) , but for the skin there is two ways to use it , drink it ( not in the morning it cause's big troubles ) , and you can put on your skin ( it may burn a little ) , and never never never go out in the sun while putting lemon juice on your face ( mom told me that never really asked why ) .
hope you best luck girl ![]()
Well kids maybe I'm overstepping my bounds but I've been making a skin cream for some friends lately who have breakout problems and I use a shea butter base, straight, shea butter....you can buy shea butter stuff at the drug store but that only has a bit of the actual shea butter in it and it's not the pure unrefined stuff. I buy the pure unrefined stuff on the Internet and it's the most wonderful stuff for ANYTHING. I've got great skin for an oldster (I'm 54) and when you initially put it on you'd curse my name because it feels oily but when it soaks in and it does REALLY fast it does REMARKABLE stuff. I mix a little teatree essential oil in my skin cream and some other stuff and it takes away scars and acne at an AMAZING rate. My friend who has really bad skin swears by it.
Hope it helps.
Good luck.

OH! Aradia, that made me think of something I like to do when we have overripe avocadoes in the house!
Avocado makes a BRILLIANT spot mask! Just smoosh it up into a paste, put it on your face or trouble areas and leave it for fifteen minutes, then wash it off. It smells nice too :D Make sure the paste is fine and not lumpy though, haha. I learnt that the hard way!
I've heard that. I haven't tried the avacado yet but you can bet I will.
Thanks for the info Lalabanana. I'll definitely make some and give it a try. Try the shea butter though. You can usually find a small amount on sale on ebay.
If you want the recipe for the cream I make, shoot me an email.
Bright Blessings

Try changing your soap or make up. It could be a reaction to that.
The area the acne has broken out in - cheek and mouth - is usually assosiated with hormones. Simply showing that through eating better your hormones are beginning to work again, which is actually a positive.
I think you do need to work on your self image though and realise that how you look isn't the be all and end all - I know this is hard but at least try not to put so much pressure on yourself about how you look because this will intern also cause break outs etc.
