Really Skinny Arms

Quote  |  Reply

Does anyone else have really thin arms? If I'm outside and I see my shadow, you can see the rest of me, but my arms are tiny little slits. My wrists are barely 5 inches around, and my biceps are so small I can't even by an armband for my ipod, and I'm a rock climber! I can carry close to my own weight (107) in horse feed. Am I like the only one? Even one of my friends who is only 80 pounds (she's like 4'5) has arms bigger than mine :(

yup. but i can't help except to say arm excersizes. but i feel ya. and it makes the rest of me (boobs, stomach, butt) look bigger. *sigh*
my arms are really skinny too!  my thighs never lose weight and it all comes from my arms, which are already skinny...it's maddening.

as long as you can carry that much though, and they are strong already...what can you do...weight training?  perhaps you are always working the same muscles and need to focus on others...
AH HA!  So you're who they make all those shirts with really small arms for eh?  Jk.

I don't really have any additional advice.  I'm with littlefroggie - try musclebuilding arm exercises if you don't already.  Add a bit of weight training, or even pushups.
I tried the weight training and stuff, but I think they just got smaller! I'm like "what is up!" You'd think with me having to carry heavy stuff like horse feed a lot, being a rock climber and horseback rider, and I do push-ups, they wouldn't be so thin :(

I'm just happy to know I'm not the only one.
Yep, I have incredibly skinny arms- my wrists look like they would snap if I wasn't careful. Not only that, I have fairly big hands, and my arms are reeaaally long, making it even worse. My skinny arms make my wide hips look even wider :-( I was extremely self conscious of my arms and shoulders at high school and wouldn't wear tanktops until I was about 20, when I suddenly thought, "oh, who cares?!"

I improved the situation slightly by taking up Ashtanga yoga, which increased the size of my forearms, biceps and shoulders very slightly. I can do hold a handstand for almost a minute and lift my whole body off the floor using only my hands, so I've got a lot stronger. Wrists are still the same size though...
it may be worth talking to a trainer to get some help bulking them up a bit...
hey girl you really dont need to worrie at all.. it just mean that you have a small body frame.. it does not matter if your friends weigh the same it just means they have a medium body frame.. for example wen im 9 stone (my best weight) im still in a size 12 because i have a medium body frame and i cant get smaller because my hip bone wont get in... a small frame 9 stone person can get into a size 10.. also your age counts how old are you? im now 19 but wen i were 13 and 9 stone i could get into a size 10. it nice to have thin arms.. no one can every say you have dinner lady arms lol i have that comment so much! argh! and if you want them a little bigger but you wanna say the same weight why dont you build up some muscle! and they will look more toned! :) bexy x

nice to meet you btw :)
I'm so jealous. I weigh 108-110 and my arms are huge! I hate them! Nothing I do seems to make the smaller. :'(
I love skinny arms, you are lucky as you must look great in clothes. But if you feel self conscious about it, just a little muscle and toning will make them GORGEOUS. Get thee to a gym.
April, that's because you're still underweight. Your BMI is only 18 and a healthy weight range for you begins at 113. Gain another 6 lbs and your arms won't look quite so skeletal.

Good luck with your recovery!

you're not alone. Im 5'10" and my wrists are not quite 6" around. they are like that all the way up to my elbow. I never even noticed until the other day when one of my freinds mentioned it...
wow this is an old post of mine.

So I still have freakin skinny arms (though I have lost 10lbs since I made this post so that's not surprising). I have learned to accept that my arms are tiny, period. My wrists are 4.5"-5" inches, my forearm is 6" and my bicep is 7". I don't mind having really skinny arms that much (anymore), it just seems to make my stomach and eveyrthing else look huge!

i weigh 97 lbs and i'm 5'5 my arms are skinny skinny too but the rest of my body is toned...i have a barely defined six pack, i can do 50 push ups, 10 pull-ups...etc.

and my wrists are like 3 in..... but i think it's heriditary

vintageish, did you realize this is a really old inactive thread?

If you are 5'5" and 97 lbs your arms are too thin BECAUSE YOU ARE SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERWEIGHT (BMI 16.2).

I don't know how old you all are but even if you are teenagers, YOU ARE UNDERWEIGHT.

Gain some weight and potentially do muscle buidling exercises to make your arms look better.

This thread is being moved to Fitness in order to get some better feedback from people who are more knowledgeable in this topic.

And at 97lbs and 5'5" thin arms do not make your other body parts look huge. You are very very thin all over. If you feel like you are "huge all over" at 97lbs and 5'5" I think you should consult a medical or mental help professional as it is a sign of disordered body image.

My wrist are 5 1/5 in around, my arms are sticks, my shoulders and clavicle area are very bony, but the rest of me looks average in build and I get it from my mom.  I lift weights but swear the more I up the weight the skinnier my arms appear.  Keeping them a little tanned helps.  I am constantly looking for blouses that are not sleeveless.   If I gained 25 lbs it would all be in my mid-section and thighs, never my arms.  It's got to be in the DNA.
