"Skinny Bitch" book, fruit for breakfast
has anyone read "Skinny Bitch"? It says that you should only eat fruit for breakfast, but this goes against all of the other breakfast advice ive ever heard; that being that its important to have some protein.
any thoughts?
Hi, sorry it's been a few days- I decided to actually focus on my job for a little while haha! My boyfriend is definitely an omnivore, and probably more like a carnivore to be honest! When we started dating, I was a vegetarian (I was veggie for about 10 years when I was quite young, and met him in the last year of my vegetarianism) and actually decided while I was with him to start eating meat again. Working in a restaurant, going out to dinner with him quite often, and cooking tons of yummy (but unhealthy) meals meant that I definitely gained weight while an omnivore. When I decided to go vegan this summer, he was supportive but he definitely misses the dinners out for huge steaks, etc!
I'm not entirely sure whether I want to be vegan 100% of the time for the rest of my life. I read an article the other day about a woman who follows a strict vegan diet 6 out of 7 days a week, and eats fish or "relaxes" her diet one day a week. I think that a variation on this idea would be good for me. Since I love eating at nice restaurants and I'm a total "foodie," it might be good for me to allow myself one meal every week/month/however often when I can indulge. I really think that staying away from dairy products has made the biggest change for me, and eating fish or even organic meat every once in a while won't kill me.
Some might call me hypocritical for saying that, because veganism is often an entire lifestyle, rather than a diet technique, but oh well- hypocrisy isn't always bad, especially if it means I'll lose weight and stay sane!
I see no problem with it at all - whatever works for you! Who cares what other people think anyway?
I pretty much follow the no more than 10% animal products in my diet rule myself (although most of the time I am far below 10%; and usually only from dairy/eggs) which would probably even allow me to have one meal containing meat per week. I don't have a desire to do that, though - I don't think I could chow down on a whole chunk of meat as part of my entree. It wouldn't be a treat for me. However, the 10% thing does give me some flexibility when eating out. For example, I don't totally avoid cheese, or if they give me something with meat mixed in or flavoring (such as beans or soup flavored with meat/broth) I can eat that and wouldn't feel bad about it. I do try to avoid those things, but only if it's not going to be a big deal to do so (i.e. having the leave the restaurant and go somewhere else).
So how was your NYC trip?
I read the book and tried "vagan-ism" for 6 months. I noticed a huge difference eating just an apple for breakfast. I would have an apple and two cups of tea around 9am, and by 11 I was ...well let's just say it was "cleansing" and got my digestion back on track. After THAT happened, I would eat other fruit or some whole wheat toast.
While veganism was a hard lifestyle to maintain, I have never felt or looked better. I still avoid dairy at all costs and eat meat only once a week.
I think the writers of Skinny Bitch are ridiculous, PETA-crazed nut jobs, but they know exactly what it takes to be thin.
Well I have been eating fruit for breakfast on and off for a few months but this week I stepped my game up do to real inflection on myself and the animals and the world...anyhow, since eating fruit for breakfast and lunch my energy has increased by 200% at least. My skin is more rich, like a honey brown rather than a dullish brown lol, and my nails are growing strong and my hair is growing faster, my memory has increased. I also stopped smoking and I am moving away from all animal byproducts. I havent exercised except for one day this week, been watching my daughter she is on the oddest schedule this week staying up till 4am. I still lost 3 lb so I highly suggest only fruit in the morning...
In skinny bitch it says if you eat fruit with other stuff the fruit goes bad in your belly which causes gas and burps and a upset digestive track...Ive only heard that from them so I am not sure enough about that but if true its another reason to only have fruit
lol, peta crazed nut jobs :)
