I swear by this book. I would BUY you a copy if we were friends. I bought most of my friends one!

Some people disagree with a few of the ideas, like only eating fruit for breakfast, but they make allowances for that in the book and even make other breakfast reccommendations. It's a healthful, whole-food, vegan lifestyle guide that promotes loving yourself more than losing weight.

Most of us could benefit from reading it.

It made me go from veg to vegan in one read, and I haven't strayed since.

I'd definitely recommend this book, especially if you are going vegan AND trying to lose weight, because it contains an emphasis on both. The reason I like it BEST though is because the overall emphasis is on health, and that's what really matters in the end.

They do have their gimmicky style of writing, but when it comes down to it, it is a well-researched book written by very qualified people. The sample menus and food lists are particularly helpful... I still turn to them for ideas once in a while!

Good luck, and good for you! Veganism has been just wonderful for me, I hope it is for you as well. Take care! Laughing

Same as the website right? I have looked at some of their recepies way too much artificial stuff.

I did buy the book! and I already read the entire thing! It def sealed the vegan deal for me! No more diet soda or coffee either for me! (only tea!)

UD - are you maybe thinking about hungry-girl?  Skinny Bitch is against artifical stuff (you are what you eat!)

It's funny, though If you're wanting to learn/adapt the lifestyle I would reccommend the book "You Are What You Eat" by Gillian McKeith, it's amazing!! I've read both books, and hers is by far more informative. Though she doesn't focus on a total vegetarian lifestyle (she believes fish oils/fish/eggs can* be added if wished)- just a thought!

I bought their cookbook and very recipe has coconut oil in it :/

coconut oil is like the best for you though, right? I read "the Makers diet", and thats all Jordan Rubin could talk about, the benefits of organic cold pressed coconut oil :-/

Isn't it the highest in saturated fat though?

Yeah, but don't quote me on this, I think it's good for you? lol- I'll have to reread that again I guess

Yeah, you must have been looking at something else. They are definitely NOT advocates of anything artificial at all. They're into whole foods and high nutrition.

If your just starting out get a book by someone who has some sort of education in nutrition.

Starting a vegan diet based on this book is like decideing to start going to the gym and getting a workout designed by a professional poker player.

Something about the ratio of omega-3's to omega-6's in coconut oil...?  This is where I first read about it:

ah, interesting.

I think you can sub olive oil for coconut oil in the Skinny Bitch recipes but none of them looked worth the effort, tbh.

I loved the recipes in the book! The eggplant parmesan is to die for, and they have fantastic sushi and pancake recipes. So, definitely worth the effort, imo.

I can vouch for the "Bitchtastic Brownies" recipe in that book. My friend and I just made them for our Fiction Writing class last night, waited until everyone had tried one, and then told them what the main ingredient was...

TOFU! It's used as the binder in place of eggs. They couldn't believe it! It was hilarious. Don't be put off by weird ingredients in their recipes, because all in all, they really do make them not healthy per se, but definitely a little less bad for you. And if you use all natural ingredients like we did and like the book suggests, they are totally guilt-free in that sense! No artificial or chemical or disease-ridden anything inolved. And they were sooooooo good, you'd never know they were vegan. We added peanut butter frosting to ours. Simply marvelous!

I'm going to have to try this! Thanks for the tip! :o

coconut oil is extremely healthy...it is high in saturated fat, but it is an unusual kind called medium chain fatty acids, so it is not treated in yor body like normal saturated fats!  Raw, cold pressed coconut oil is awesome

no coffee?  Cry

I try not to drink coffee too much, but I have it sometimes.
