Weight Loss

Anyone read this? I know it promotes veganism and leans towards that more than weight loss but as I rarely eat meat anyway I am open to possibly being persuaded.

However I've heard mixed reviews, some say it's amazing, some say the authors use phrases "your fat, sorry ass" a tad too often!

So, if anyone's read it I would really appreciate hearing what you thought (and if you're now a hardcore, militant vegan!)

THANKS :)

I LOVED IT! it is sooo funny! I was already vegan when I read it.

I loved the book. I'm a vegetarian, and although there is a bit of truth sifting that you have to do with that book (some thing they say just aren't right, as much as I'd like to think that they are.) The book was funny though and I enjoyed reading it-- dont let the "your fat ass" comments really get to you. Obviously, they arent personal insults... it was a solid read. You should definitely read it =)

definitely a great book.. i'm not vegan or anything, but i LOVED reading it. i still re-read parts of it too. i think the way it is written is great as well, it's laugh out loud funny at parts and you'll read a part and think "that's SO TRUE!"

Hmmm, just don't know if I'm ready to give up my coffee and sweetner, and cigarettes and so on. I know I should and I am cutting down and I am seriously thinking about becoming a full on veggie again BUT... just don't know.

But thanks for your replies, v helpful. I will think about it a little longer before buying I think. Or will maybe get it out of the library so I can try before I buy :)

Library sounds like a good idea!  I know several people who have read it and loved it.  I, on the other hand, have zero desire to read it.  I like meat and I'm not afraid to admit it!  I try to do some good things like buy local or cage-free (for eggs), but the rest...I kind of just don't want to know!

I have heard that the book is pretty vulgar (not surprising, based on the title) - you might check out some reviews on amazon before buying if you can't find it in the library.

misscherryjane: I used to be a huge coffee lover too! The book does point out some valid arguments to not drink coffee, but it's only like a paragraph or so. I'm trying to switch to tea now :)  I will probably still drink coffee sometimes, just not everyday.

This is one my "want to read" list.  Although I was a vegetarian for 5 years and no intention on going back.  It still sounds like an interesting read.  I've heard it's funny too.  I like funny.

beastypixie: If you are already a vegetarian, you will love it! Maybe you will even consider going vegan ;)  It is soo funny and not boring like other diet books.

I read it for pure entertainment on an airplane and follow none of it.  After about 40 pages, I skimmed because it got so preachy.  I tried vegan for awhile a few years ago but my body doesn't get satisfied by following an ideology.  It said, "Why are you giving me a processed soy turkey with little molded fake wings when you could just give me turkey!"  Not eating meat is not a necessarily the solution to an abusive meat industry but a good reason to find alternate sources of meat like through hunting or responsible local providers.

I'm happy I received this book for free. I read the first few chapters and skimmed through the rest because all they did was try to convince the reader to become a vegetarian & insult you if you're not one.

Well I'm getting a good mix of positive and negative which was about the same as the amazon reviews so I will go to the library today, walking of course, in the lovely sunshine! and will let you all know how I get on :)

Umm.  Misscherryjane... May I ask... What's with the handcuffs?

I HATED it.  It was very condescending and vulgar.  I have been a vegetarian numrous times in my life, and although the book makes some valid points, they just took it too far-aka not funny when you're calling me a fat ass because I eat a hamburger every now and then. More than my response to it though, I hated what it did to my friends that read it. I had one friend who is very "persuadeable" and she became so preachy afterwards, eyeing everything I ate and making comments from the book. It was awful. So if you do read it, dont become her, LOL

Personally, i would rather live my life a normaly weight nice person than a skinny bitch, maybe thats just me.

If you're looking for some vegan propoganda it's probably a good choice (though I bet you could get all the same info for free on the PETA website).

If you're looking for solid diet/nutrition advice it's not likely you could do any worse than this book.  My dog is probably more qualified to advise people about nutrition than the authors of this book.

Pretty much agree with that. I have also been vegetarian a few times, over a year twice. I've read the start of the book (like 1/4 of it) I just find it stupid. I don't care how good your point is, it's also how you make it. It's not like everything the book says is true either.

I'm only living once so I'll be damned if I'd let a book controll me to that extent.

Hello

Its OK. I found it a bit of a rant to be honest. And yes it is promoting veganism, which is OK if that's what you want to do. Personally i think I would be skinny if I was a vegan. But I would also be bored.

And yeah what's with the handcuffs.

x

.

I read the whole thing at the bookstore, so i didn't have to buy it haha.  It was pretty good, kinda funny, and there are some valid points.  Basically they just tell you to eat whole, unprocessed plant foods, and that everything else will destroy your health and make you fat.

I think it's worth reading, but not buying.  I am vegan by the way, but was not pursuaded by this book.

I bought the book. It's actually on my night stand as we speak. It was really good. They do have potty mouths but it makes it more entertaining to read. They give you GREAT information.

I'm vegan. = )

Well the library didn't have it but they are ordering it for me so I can read it for free :)

Ummm the handcuffs were meant to be like a reflection of how I'm shackled by certain things. Weight issues being one of them. But yeah, maybe a tad emo of me?! *sigh* I'm just so moody and tortured. Embarassed

Were you expecting me to say I'm a nurse by day and a hard core dominatrix by night or something?!! Laughing
