my friend is at ahealthy weight and is quite slim and toned up everywhere with the exception of her tummy especially the lower abdomen. i reckon she is skinny fat, however she eats clean and her diet is great. would swimming help tone her tummy?

any thoughts will be appreciated

Snap! I want someone to answer this question so much because I am the same! I am slim but need to tone up my belly... I 'spin' 4 times per week and also do sit ups but it's still a bit jelly belly and my sides have love handles!

My BMI is 19.7 so I know I don't need to lose weight...

It all depends...is she carrying fat around her abs or is it loose skin? Although you cannot spot reduce fat, you can lose fat and increase muscle by incorporating more weights into your training. Watch your diet! Eating a diet high in carbs - regardless of the number of calories you eat - can bloat you..as well as soda and foods high in sodium. Make sure you are eating enough healthy foods.  Malnutition shows it's signs in thin bodies with bloated stomachs.

Best of luck!

Um. That bit of pooch is perfectly normal on a woman if I'm not mistaken. That being where your reproductive organs are and all, I don't think it's a bad thing to have a little softness there.

Your 'friend', huh. Giving your posting history I'd think you're talking about you. What's your weight now, then, ricecake? Or are you still 88lbs?

Hey ricecake (the peanut butter kind sounds reaaallly good right about now) I have noticed that girls/women recovering from an ED also have that trouble spot. It depends on the person, but for some people its when they are recovering and it goes away or when they actually become overweight. But that's just from boozing ALOT! partying waayy too hard.

I have found light running does the trick. Eating a reasonable amount for your actual hunger (not boredom, stress, etc.) keeps my stomach flat. I have really found that to help, and mine went away.

p.s.- You will win your fight against your ED. You are a strong person no matter what even if you end up losing again just remember you CAN get back to health.

I'm rooting for you!!Smile

 Great post!

Keep up the work, 'ricecake' and continue to use whatever support groups you have via internet/therapists/family/friends. Remember that most malnourished people will have 'bloated' tummies. Proper diet will eventually take care of that.

Take care of yourself.

thanks guys for your advice.

lala - this is actually for a friend. As for me, im still on recovery, im now 43kg which is about 94lbs....i know still VERY low, but im trying really hard. The tummy still keeps growing, but i keep saying to myself that it will level off and that i must keep eating, the constant battle between ED and me. But hopefully with everyones support ill get there.

fitnessgirl - thanks for ur advice, i will try andtake those on both and will update you all on whats happening.

Thanks all.

God Bless x
