I read the other day about this new "skinny-fat" generation - apparently those skinny girls who eat what they want and don't seem to gain wait are actually more unhealthy than slightly larger women who eat well.
I am petite, and am classed as underweight, yet I have always eaten whatever I want. My skin isn't always great, I suffered with acne as a teenager, I have terrible cellulite and am quite unfit....
Are there any other skinny-fat girls out there who like me want to turn it around?!
I'm petite but not classed as underweight, I'm under healthy
Apparently this is what I am. I am classified as "underweight" but I still have some rollage on my belly. Apparently we have to get our butts in the gym to solve this problem (so people say). Boooo gyms. lol
But good for you realizing that being healthy is more important than being skinny. Good luck with your endeavors!
That's me. I wear a size two, but my bodyfat was tested at 30.1 percent since I have such a small frame. I was pretty shocked, but it was great motivation. I'll get it tested again in a couple weeks, and I hope the number has gone down since I have lost weight.
I'm skinny-fat too. I've been doing weight training regularly (New Rules of Lifting for Women) and jogging on my off days from lifting.
I have a friend who is thinner looking than me and wears a size smaller but when we tested our body fat hers is 30 and mine is 22. Kinda crazy!
Usually if you have some cellulite or rollage or whatever it just means you need some muscle underneath, not that you're skinny.
American society will tell you that if you're not obese you are anorexic because all the fat girls either want to make themselves feel better by putting down people who have self control or they were raised by other fat people who fed their ego way too much.
If you got some extra, you're just fine. Maybe just do some strength training to get some muscle under the pudge and it will smooth it out for ya. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you are skinny or thin.
I'm a size 6-8, small boned, 29% body fat, 131 pounds and 5'5...that puts me the skinny-fat category too...I am trying to get rid of 10 pounds of fat and getting my BF% down 23% while keeping my lean mass.
I know a woman who's much smaller and lighter than me (similar height), wears a size 2-4 but has some rolls around her belly...her body fat is at 31%
I think most skinny fat people not only have muscle to gain, they do have abit of extra fat to lose too! Just gaining muscle will definately improve the tone of their bodies, but the flab will remain unless they lose it! Someone whose body fat percentage is at 27-30%+ will need to watch what they eat and not just gain muscle if they're looking to get their body fat down to healthy levels of 21-25%. Gaining muscle is no easy feat, and just focusing on gaining muscle rather than losing the extra bit of fat will not produce significant results, the improvements will only be slight.
I had the whole skinny with cellulite thing going on until a couple of years ago. I'm happy to say heavy weights have changed all that.
I am EXACTLY this.. skinny fat, and I loathe it! I'm 5'5' and used to be very athletic (played virtually every sport, faught competitevly etc.). Over the past two years I have lost a considerable amount of weight (about 35lbs), and now what I'm left with is skinny, weak arms and legs, and a big, alien like belly. I'm also missing the fantastic breasts and a** I used to have.
I'm working on building muscle and cardio training, as well as changing some pathetic habits I picked up through grad school.
As far as I'm concerned, skinny has never = sexy or healthy.
