Has anyone had this happen???

One of my guy friends was talking to my sister and told her that I was "too skinny". I'm 134 and 5'6 and that is a healthy BMI and not really skinny in the first place.

I don't know why but I'm kind of insulted. I mean, to me saying "too" anything is an insult. I worked hard, and I don't like being basically told that I should gain weight. Not to mention that THIS guy is 5'10, 145 and rides his bicycle 1-2 hours a day.

Pot and kettle??

Anyone else have someone kind of insult their weight loss? Like it was bad for them or something?

I have been asked where my organs go. I am underweight by a bit though, 110lbs at 5'6. But still...yeesh.

Yes I have and in my opinion it generally doesnt get better...recommend just ignoring them unless you want to spend a lot of energy and time defending something that needs no defense.

Maybe he was just saying that you're too skinny for his personal taste? Maybe he likes women with, say a large bossom and, lol, a derriere to fill out their bloomers?

Just saying. Maybe he was clumsily telling her he likes her?

i kind of agree with charlie_r.

i mean, he told your sister this, not you, so i doubt he meant to insult you.  maybe people should always keep their opinions to themselves but i know most i the guys i know will have specific tastes in women and discuss these preferences.

guys should know better than to make comments about a girl's body to another girl who knows that girl.

i was used as a comparison to decribe what a 70+ year old lady with cancer looked like on chemo in front of a bunch of people at a nice dinner.  now that almost made me choke in embaressment.

for sure!  i've got it way worse than you.  :(

my whole family & friends said i was  too skinny at 5'7" weighing 165!  yeah, i take alot of that crap.  i kept right on going.  i just slowed it down.  it got so bad around here that i had to "sneak" my last 15 pounds or so off.  i'm 134 now & my bmi is good, but i still have a big belly.

i'd love to sneak off another 10, but we'll see.  i'm trying to just tone up now instead.

they make me eat & they get mad when i exercise!

good luck!  :D

Well, he is at least debunking the myth that all men prefer slim women. If you are slender and happy, then this just isn't the guy for you. He didn't say it to you , and I am sure that you have made comments about preferences on guys (i.e. I like brown eyes, or a guy with/without tattoos.) No need to be offended.

Please don't be offended! At least he's affirming what you are trying to accomplish anyway, and that's to be slender. (He probably didn't have his thesaurus handy to come up with a less icky work than skinny.) And I bet he was implying that he likes women with a little more meat on their bones...lots of guys do, you know! Someone I know well likes gals with big booties.

And it can go both ways. I know a guy through work. I don't see him often, but the last time, I noticed that he's packed on a bit of muscle. Turns out he's gotten into body-building and weight lifting. He looks good for what he's trying to do, but I don't find it appealing. For me, I like guys who have very developed musculature from what they do for a living or what they do for playing. I guess I like a guy who looks like he works hard or plays hard.

AHHH!

that's what i'm like!
Its hard for me to lose weight and eat right because the last time i lost weight, my mom watched me like a hawk and said i was too skinny and i when we had something high calorie for dinner or just something i didnt like, i wasn't allowed to refuse it and it was hard to sneak eating less with my mom watching me.

well, i did get too skinny eventually and gained all my weight back last winter, but ive started losing weight again and my mom is watching me as usual and so ive been losing weight SOOO slowly this time having to eat with the rest of the family when we have an unhealthy meal and being watched =_=

my mom doesn't realize that not everyone has a messed up body like hers that is unable to store fat. And just because she needs to gain weight doesn't mean I can't spare 5-10 pounds lost to look better.

Yeah I get that a lot.  I've been told I'm "too skinny," "skin and bones," and "need to gain about 10 pounds."  It's all BS and I ignore it.  My BMI is 20, which is perfectly fine.  I think I might appear thinner because of my height, and I really don't care what other peoples' preferences are.  I like my body how it is, and I'm not going to change it.  I don't go around telling people they are too fat, so they can screw themselves.

As long as you feel comfortable with yourself then you are fine. You can tell whoever said that to screw off. They are probably just jelouse anyways

These days what is "normal" or average among the american population is classified as overweight, or to be blunt- fat.

As long as youre healthy and happy with yourself-it shouldnt bother you what other poeple say.

I take comments like that as compliments!!

The other day on a subway in Brooklyn, some hobo called me a "skinny bitch" because I accidently stepped on his shoes...... and I couldn't stop smiling the whole day...
