am i skinny? should i loose more?
Hi
I am 5'11 and weigh 125lbs. But before i went out on friday night and drank a 40oz of mickey's and ate two sliced of pizza i was at 122lbs. I used to be 117 lbs but gained when I started taking birth control, i think it was the hormones. Plus i started working out more and i think it is muscle. I am asking this because since i am so tall, i often feel huge compared to short girls who are thin. Even if we may have the same BMI I just feel like a big person. I eat about 800-1000 calories a day and at most 1200. Its not that i mean to, i am just not that hungry nor do i like food very much, it just grosses me out. Anyway, I know i am not loosing because of that whole "starvation" mode but i cant help it, i dont eat a lot.
Anyway, so i can calm my anxiety, am i skinny?
Reason: Moved from Weight Loss to Health & Support
I'm not quite as tall - 5'9 - but still taller than a lot of people. I have 27lbs on you though, and I don't have your small frame...so yeah I know how you feel about being 'bigger' :)
Anyways to your question, you are very skinny, and underweight BMI-wise, but you have a small frame so it doesn't look too 'bad'. But you really don't need to lose any weight (and would look fine even gaining). Oh you're not eating enough either, you probably know...if you find food so gross maybe you should try some other foods..
Also I agree with Carleyrapp, I am slim and I would NEVER put pictures of myself in a bikini on the internet! yikes! You have to know you look good.
Yes, you are skinny.
I've never understood why anyone would want to be skinny. It's neither attractive nor feminine. Slim is good. Skinny is not.
If food 'grosses you out' you need to talk to a health professional about your unhealthy view of food/eating. It doesn't sound like you're in a good place mentally and that's sad. Fresh healthy well prepared food is one of life's greatest gifts, especially when shared with friends and family. It's really amazing when you stop to think about the path each food item has been on from the farm to the table and all the people along the way that made it happen. Food is not the enemy.
And yea, I'd have to agree with the other posters - you wouldn't put a pic of yourself on the net if you didn't already know you look good. That being said, you DO look good, so if you're needing support for something that has you down CC is a great place for sharing it.
Okay, this is not to be rude, but more as a reality check. You look anorexically skinny, and not in an attractive way. If you gained a few pounds, you would not look so gangly, awkward and starved. I don't know if this is a cry for help or a sadistic method of raising your self-esteem.
And I agree with everyone else that you need to see a health professional if you really think food is "disgusting". It shocks me a little that you can't percieve that as an obvious sign of anorexia yourself.
The goal of staying beneath 120lbs for your stature isn't even a healthy goal it's an anorexic goal. It's underweight with a (BMI) of 16.7.
Even if you were 130lbs you'd still be classed as underweight with a BMI 18.1.
You need serious help because you have a serious problem... and you look like it too.
Original Post by carleyrapp:
People who have anxiety regarding their looks or weight don't post various bikini shots of themselves on the internet. You obviously look fine & you already know what everyone is going to tell you re: your caloric intake & model obsession.
i am so glad you said that lol!!!
This was not for attention, i wanted to know if i should loose more weight because the obsession is killing me! Actually, all of your comments helped me a lot. I recently put the bikini pic up because i wanted to ask peoples opinions on if i should loose more. I guess i shouldnt, but then, how do i maintain?? I really dont know what to do, what do i eat? what should i eat? And how is it possible for me to eat and stay the weight im at? I am so confused it is hard to imagine a new diet. Furthermore, sometimes i see that i have an ED, probably anorexia, and exercise issues, but i could never reach out for help and the only way for me to get help is it be forced into it because asking for help would ultimately defying myself. Its just sometimes i go nuts and need an outside opinion, so i asked.
=/
I dont know why i cant see what others can and why most of the time food looks unappealing (unless it is fruit i LOVE fruit).
I just don't know.
After reading your profile and these posts, I think that you def should not lose any more weight. You're super super skinny as is and seem to be really active in fun, healthy ways (hiking etc). Maintaining would just be a continuation of what you're doing now, staying active. Personally, I think you could definately gain a few pounds.
You're really taking stranger's opinions as what's most important, which to you shouldn't be. You also sometimes think that you have an eating disorder, so instead of thinking that asking for help is "defying" yourself, think of asking for help as actually making yourself a better person. I really think that you should talk to your parents or friends about it. But, as an adult, you shouldn't depend on them "forcing" you into getting help because they may not even know that anything is wrong.
You are thin. You are beautiful. You are smart. In my opinion, you could easily take an extra 10-15lbs and still look great, but what matters most is how YOU feel about yourself. The only problem is that it seems an unhealthy obsession with food and weight has taken over your life.
If you honestly see yourself in the mirror and think you need to lose weight, if the "obsession is killing you" or if you see food and really, deep down feel that it's gross, you should consider talking to a health professional or counselor at your school's health services. There's nothing wrong with asking for help, particularly when most people in this thread, including yourself, recognize that you might have a problem.
If you don't want outside help, because you think you need to be forced to get help, just keep exercising and eating healthy foods trying to get at least 1200 calories a day. Fruits, veggies, lean meats, legumes and complex carbs are all great for your body.
The only person who can make the change is you. Unless you A) recognize that you have a problem, and B) really want to fix it, nobody else will be able to force you to get better.
Take care.
shakes head and walks out of post
Go to the friggin doc to talk about this.
People are most likely going to be nasty to you in public about it.
AND
You look like a friggin model. You have model stats. Fix your head so you can see what others see and you are not beating youself up all the time. Once you get your head strait get into modeling and continue therapy and see a nutritionalist. Make some cash with those gams!
My tall friends always have this complaint though. I always wished to be 6 fit tall and they always wished to be shorter. Grass is greener!
If you eat right you will firm up. A lot of people that undereat feel flabby to themselves because of contantly being depleted of glycogen in the muscles. Makes anyone softer.
A little different with my post this time, and probably more to those that have responded.
I have to try and use my own experiences (although not weight, but similar in how I view(ed) myself).
Apparently I am intelligent. Friends teachers etc... would always pull my to one side, and complain that I would hide within myself or not push myself to excel when clearly I had it in me.
Yes I saw my grades well above those around me, but it scared me that I was different and would question why I was not getting 95%, 98% etc..., and strived to be what was perfect.
I seeked approval for 97%, because I only saw I had 3% wrong. Was not the right, but the wrong that I focussed on.
It is easy to lose track if people keep telling you information about you (in the OP's case that she is a model) when you have not yet accepted it yuorself, so you say throw away comments to deflect from what is said.
These then grow in your mind.
I appreciate both sides in this story.
Skinnylea, you are fortunate to not be skinny, but your intake is not at a level for you to achieve what your friends and family tell you. It is something that will more than likely catch you up, and be a bigger pain then, than if you sort now.
You understand the system on this, so the ball as they say s in your court.
All the best with finding out who you are :)
You're a very pretty girl- that said, being extremely underweight is as dangerous as being extremely overweight. Honey, you are underweight to the extreme which unfortunately, is what I think the reaction you were hoping to hear was. I'm no expert in ED- but if you don't already have one I think you're well on your way.
Please be aware that Calorie Count cannot and will not support you eating less than 1200 calories a day. We consider this unhealthy and CC is all about HEALTHY weight loss or weight maintenance
From Mary Hartley, Calorie Count's Director of Nutrition: "By eating only 800 calories, you will not get enough energy, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other components of food. In time, you could become malnourished, which can cause severe health risks such as respiratory infections, kidney failure, blindness, heart attack and even death."
Here is a brief reason why never less than 1200 from the Advice section of Calorie Count Plus, under the Q&A tab:
Why must I eat at least 1,200 calories a day when I want to eat less?
In order to get the daily food servings you need for a balanced diet, it takes about 1200 calories a day. With careful planning, you could have a balanced diet on 1000 calories, but the restrictiveness of a very low calorie level can lead to binging and weight cycling, which will take you further from your weight loss goal. What's more, very low calorie diets can cause excessive muscle breakdown and metabolic adaptations, which can drive down your calorie requirements. In the end, you'll need fewer calories to maintain a higher weight
Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive.
Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a 5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing:
-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)
You say you like fruit, pair it with some cheese and crackers. Add some avocado to any salad you eat and some nuts. Drink an ensure or fruit juice. You need a healthy balanced diet and if you're a picky eater you'll have to research it and try different things.
No offense against 'carlyrapp', but no matter what size a person is, if they are insecure, they are going to seek validation. Looking at Lea's profile you can see that she has had an eating disorder and drug problems. If she was 100%, she wouldn't need to ask if we like the way she looks.
Lea,
I think that the way you look in all your photos, with the exception of the one where you are smoking, you look very healthy. If you are trying to tone up as you stated you've been doing, you will gain muscle mass, which is heavier. I think it's great that you are doing so well and have kicked some of the aforementioned habits. Good luck to you and remember to ask yourself what you think of YOU!
Have you even thought about how you make others feel by this question. So many people on this site really need encouragement...by the pics you have posted and with the question...whatever. Not to be mean but I HATE when skinny people like you rub it in the faces of others that you feel fat. If you cannot see you that you are THIN...get help now.
Sorry if I came off angry it is just crazy how inconsiderate thin people can act when talking about thier body around people that are obviously bigger than them. I have small and big friends, and friends that are just right...I have told my thin friends to lay off when talking about thier "belly pooch" when one of my friends has been trying to lose 20 pounds for the last year...get over it.
EDIT...okay about the ED and drug problems...did not see that. Sorry if I offenended.
