How do skinny people sit?
I am currently at my thinnest ever and within 10-15 pounds of my ideal weight range. Yes, on the positive, I can now cross my legs without tugging one leg over the other with my hands, I only take up one seat on the bus, I have definable knees, etc. etc. etc. However, whenever I sit for periods of time, I can feel the bones against the seat and my bum just hurts. I can hardly sit for more than an hour without getting squirmy and uncomfortable. I'm hardly skinny even now but sometimes I miss that extra padding! How in the world do skinny people sit?
Can't help you with that one, 'hon, but I wanted to tell you what an inspiration your pictures are to me. I feel a little less hopeless & helpless. How have you lost all that weight? Is it mostly the exercise? How do you stay so motivated?
We use butt cushions in our underwear ;]
Just kidding, I dont have a problem? I get squirmy and cant sit just because I cant. I use to be told though when I was little people didnt want me to sit on them because I had a boney butt.
maybe it's part of how they manage to stay skinny. Less time sitting around.
I was actually exercising on a rowing machine today and I had to stop because my butt hurt from the plastic seat. I never used to have that problem.
Spread legs as far apart as possible...
Optional extras inclusing slouching and/ or placing a hand inside the trousers :)
When I lost 30lbs last year that was one of my first "wake up calls" that I was actually thin. I remember in high school when I was also thin I was getting sore tail bones quite a bit. That hasn't happened to me yet however, I am sometimes uncomfortable sitting or lying on hard beds (more so in December when I had reached my goal than now as I am 7 lbs heavier)!
OMG YES thanks for posting this
this is my new problem also!!!
my step-son's baseball has started and I notice when I sit on the bleachers at his games I can't sit still because of those darned bones!!!
Speaking of bones....I never knew I was born with a collar bone!!!!
GOOOO BONES!! LOL
~H~
just get used to it i think. recline more maybe.
oops two posts lol sry
you definitely get used to it. i was chubby as a kid and had extra padding. then i got this-too thin for a while. one thing to do is to tone/workout your butt-gives extra padding :)
haha! what a funny post. erm well wen i was abit thinner than i am now i used to find it uncomfortable too.
i think you should just always sit on cushions! lol.
or maybe you could stand 8)
xxx
LOL!
I have lost 73 pounds so far and still have a long way to go (67 to be exact) and even at my heaviest I never had a particularly big arse. But my butt is flat! and even at my current weight of 256 it is beginning to hurt on hard surfaces! Blimey- I wonder what it will be like when I reach my target.
well done though machine :)
wear thicker pants. with butt pockets.
like someone else mentioned, cross legged is a good position! I like dinner tables with long table cloths so i can kick off my shoes and sit "indian style".
Wow - you look great and your pics make me miss Ptld (I grew up there). You're an inspiration! I'm within 20 lbs of my goal and I've noticed I can't sit comfortably for as long as I used to either. I consider it a good thing!!!
I have the same problem too! I have only lost 20lbs, but boy-oh-boy am I uncomfortable sitting for long times (on hard chairs/surfaces) and even laying in bed. Don't get me wrong, I am happy at my weight (5'3" and 128.5lbs) but I agree - the extra padding was nice.
I don't like feeling my butt bones on the seat and when I lay in bed, I hate how my hips and shoulder bones dig into the mattress.
Maybe it is time for a down pillow-top mattress pad?!?! I have always wanted one... never thought it was worth the splurge... but heck, maybe it is!
When sitting on a harder surface, I fold one leg under me to kinda boost me up. When that leg starts to fall asleep, I shift my weight and switch legs.
At night time, I layer on the clothes, and sleep ontop of my blankets and sheets -- under the comforter. That helps a little, but not much.
A friend of mine who lost 25lbs and now weighs 100lbs (she is definitely very thin) - I asked her if she noticed that her butt bones hurt after sitting for a long time. She laughed at my comment, but said yes and that she tends to avoid sitting on hard surfaces.
What about an inflatable hemmoroid cushion?!! HAHAH. JK!
I would say work out more, and focus on the butt and legs. I've never had that problem, even when I was 145 pounds with about 15% body fat. And that's why... muscle provides just as much padding as fat does, it just looks a helluva lot better!
I have the same problem and one of the things I do to help it is to sit up very straight with my chest out. I have found that this forces more weight onto my upper thighs and less on my tail bone. I also turn my legs to the left or right about 30 degrees from the direction that my torso is facing. And when it gets too bad, I just get up and move around (if possible). It can be a major problem though when I am forced to sit for long periods (like on my recent flight to Hawaii). Being 6'5", crammed into a seat with no leg clearance, and unable to adjust my position as a result was pure torture.
