skinny up top..

Quote  |  Reply
Ok, so I seem to keep losing weight in my upper body and not my lower body. My ribs are starting to show and my friend was "concerned" but I am not underweight. My legs are still bigger and I would like my hips to be smaller as well. Anyone know what I can do? I already go running 4 times a week. And I don't really want to keep losing weight from my top. Thanks!!

Everyone's bodies are different but I lost all of my weight on the top first because I'm pear shaped. I started noticing my legs, hips, etc. getting smaller after 10-15 pounds.

Unfortunately, we can't chose where the fat comes from.

You could try lifting weights for your upper body - I found that it really helped me look much more hour-glass, compared to the pear I always was. Overall weight training will help too, since the lower body has the large muscle groups that will burn more calories. And deadlifts have helped my butt look tons better - perkier.

But I can feel ribs in front and back, yet still have fat I could stand to lose on hips. Just the way our bodies are.

i'm not really a pear, but i relate to this, too.  my upper body is pretty skinny again, but there's still plenty of excess around my waist and thighs (butt is pretty good, though!).

running and other lower-body exercise definitely helps; it firms up the legs so that they don't--you know--spread so much.

it's just the way it is.  and i seriously doubt that anyone else looks at me and thinks, "Her thighs are massive!"  i look good in my jeans ;)

i kinda feel the same way. like today i came home and looked in the mirror and thought jesus my thighs look big, even though ive lost a good 8 lbs since last year. my bmi is around 20 which is healthly so i dont get it. i do workout out and run alot, so i don't know if this has something to do with it. im not going to stop though, id rather have muscular thighs and butt than fat. seriously i think my butt is disproprotionate to my body. my friends tease me about it, they all have flat butts, but maybe they're just jealous lol. im built like my mom though, her thighs are skinnier but she does have a cute bum! i should probably just embrace it..haha

I'm not a pear shape; I'm more of an hourglass, but I can relate to this too. I've had people actually comment on my top being too thin looking, but I'm in my weight range and am healthy. And like you, I also wish I had smaller hips and thighs.

Oh, I totally feel this problem! When I got down to my goal weight the first time I dieted (before I relapsed), I was a little above being underweight and you could see my ribs, but my thighs/hips were biiiig! That's when I realized I'm pear shaped.

I can never really lose my thighs/hips, I try to love them, hard as it may be, but I found that if I run and do a lot of cardio for the legs, I'm able to shave off inches off my thighs and hips, but not a whole ton.
