Firstly, thanks to everyone for your support in my 50 by 51 quest. I have no doubt that staying on the straight and narrow will be easier with you guys giving me that kick from time to time. Now, if only I could stay off the scale. I think part of my 'keeping on track' problem is 'keeping off the scale'. I stand on those things at least 3 times a day and I'll stay there untill I get the same number three times..I know....strange. I know that that is not good. I see a number in the morning which is lower than the number from lunchtime which is lower than the number in the evening..... Sometimes there can be a 2lb difference. Those are the days when I say..."oh well, I'm up anyway, may as well go to Boston Pizza for dinner and start again tomorrow." So, TODAY I WILL NOT STAND ON THE SCALES... TODAY I WILL NOT STAND ON THE SCALES!!! Gosh, I feel like the peeps on the TV commercial with the scale chained to her ankle.... ![]()
Would it work for you to measure yourself daily instead? I lose significant portions of inches most days, but sometimes gain pounds so I prefer the tape most days!
Yip- this is me to a tee... I'm OCD with my scale! I can't walk past it without weighing and sometimes end up weighing 5 times a day, as if it going to be helpful! Bleh.
well you gain weight throughout the day because you are eating, drinking, etc!! you might try just weighing in the morning and then putting it away, or even consider only weighing once-twice a week. some people have a "weigh-in day" and that gives them something to look forward to. i like fridays (vs a mon or tues) because i normally do really well during the week and then sometimes have a free meal or two on the weekday.
I weigh myself all the time too, but only really count the weight I get first thing in the morning and I only log my weight on Friday mornings. Maybe you could try weaning yourself starting with picking a day to log your weight and that's the weight you go by regardless of how many times you have stepped on the scale during the rest of the week.
I obsess too. I don't weigh myself multiple times per day, I weigh about three times a week, always in the morning after I've emptied my bladder. The number on that scale usually determines my mood for the day. Lately, it's been really crappy. Today it's REALLY crappy.
My husband has taken the scale from me and put it in his work truck so I cannot get to it. The tape measure will probably be next. Then I'll have to find some other form of measure to obsess over.
Ahhh.. I share your obsession!!
Morning, scale
Come home, scale
In the bathroom, scale
scale, scale, scale!
If I knew how to overcome, I'd gladly share!
I weighed myself one last time today, Put it away in the closet. I'll check my progress in 3 weeks.
Checking that darn thing everyday 5-8 times really wasn't helping.
Just put it away.
I used to have the same problem. I had a scale at home that I used to weigh myself on (constantly), but I thought it was wrong. So I started weighing myself at Publix, you know how they have those big scales when you walk in the door. I started tracking my weight by that scale so I didn't even use my home scale anymore. Just get rid of your scale and weigh at Publix. It's kinda hard to obsess when you have to take time out of your day to get in your car and drive to Publix. Set aside one day a week to go down to publix and weigh.
Oh and also, putting it away never worked for me, I would always just go break it out and weigh anyways. My room mate tried to take it from me and hide it and I yelled at him. I made him give it bakck and he never hid it again. Weighing at publix is better
, for us both.
