how many hours on average do you get each night?

also please post your age and how your energy levels are throughout the day.

also does anyone take naps consistently? i'm just curious.

I'm 22, I have moderate energy levels (more so lately since I've been working out and eating a good number of calories). I shoot for 8 hours a night. If I get any more, I'll be groggy. Strangely, I'm often more energized on less sleep, I just crash sooner. I love naps and use them as a coping mechanism, but they make me groggy as hell.

I'm 23 and usually get about 7 hours of sleep, but then spend most of the morning yawning like crazy and feeling unfocused.  I feel better my noonish.  I really need 8 - 9 to feel good in the morning (wish I could ALWAYS get that amount).  I always nap saturdays and sundays for anywhere from 2 - 4 hours. But I'm not sure if that's out of boredom or necessity

I get about 7- 8 hours and I'm 43.   My day starts at 5.30-6am and goes through to 10-10.30pm.    I don't nap..

i'm 40, and i used to be a chronic insomniac (from childhood), but now i sleep pretty well.  regardless of how well i sleep, though, i'm ready to get up after eight hours, almost to the minute.  it's very consistent.  i don't need an alarm clock unless i'm getting up freakishly early to catch a flight or something.

when i wasn't sleeping well, i could function on 2-3 hours a night for several weeks before i would finally crash and have a few good nights.

i do nap, when something interferes with my 8 hours.  napping for me means 20 minutes of...it's hard to describe.  i don't think it's really sleep, but it's definitely an altered level of consciousness, and it's hard and fast.  i rarely need more than that, but every once in awhile i'll sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon.

my energy level is pretty consistent, as long as i'm taking care of myself, and that has more to do with food and water than with sleep.

as u can see already, this is all VERY individual.  i have insomnia, i'm 24, and i get between 4-6 hrs a night on average.  on a weekend night (if i don't have a lot to do the next day) i can get about 8.  i actually need about 7-8, but what can u do...  my sleeping has been getting better though: i read an hour before going to bed, and i exercise more (that's what my doctor told me to do, since i didn't want to go on pills).  i CAn function on very little sleep and i think my body is getting somewhat adjusted (i work days and rehearsae most night/weekends--i'm an actress--so i had to get used to the busy life a few yrs ago)

i'm 22 and get 7-8 hours of sleep per week night.  I'm always tired right when I am getting out of bed but once i'm getting dressed and all that I am fine.  I say I'm tired sometimes during the day but I am definitely well rested and function well.  I also am able to fall asleep between 11-12 every night just fine, I wake up at 7:45 am.

I wish I could get 8 hours. I would feel like a new person. I get 5 hours a night. Wake up at 3:30 everyday and cannot go back to sleep.Cry Even on the weekend I am up that early. I scrub the bathroom, cook, get on the computer, clean... My husband will get up and ask what the heck I am doing scrubbing the shower at 3:00am?? This only started about a year ago. I hope I go back to a 4 or 5am schedule soon.

hey juleroo, can i give you a tip?

i tried a couple of different sleep remedies (one OTC, one herbal) and they didn't work.  the one thing that made a huge difference was when i decided i just wasn't going to worry about whether or not i was sleeping.  i just get comfortable and rest.  i let my mind wander, let thoughts come and go (do you do yoga?  i learned this from a good yoga instructor), and rest my body.  this makes a huge difference to how i feel.

I have recently began dating someone new for the past 10 months and i am on his schedule and its killing me! I go to bed around 11 and wake up monday through friday at 4:30am. i eat breakfast and then start my workout at 5am. 5 hours of sleep makes me extremely fatigued all day long. so i ended up getting addicted to RockStar energy drinks the sugar free and carb free kind and i drink one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I know it cant be good but he wont let me go to bed early!!!!!!! and i cant wake up any earlier because of my job. =(

I'm 32 and on average I sleep around 7 hours per night.  I used to take a nap almost every day during my lunch break but once I started eating right and exercising I didn't need to do that anymore.  My energy level and sleep quality is highest when I get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day and stay away from fast food.

I'm 18

I usually sleep around 4-6 hours a day (Monday-Friday) - I go to bed around midnight and get up at either 4.30 (sometimes as early as 3am - I'm often too nervous about school and stuff to sleep) or 6 (some days I have classes at 7am- which means I have to be on the bus at 5.55, other days I have them at 8.40am)

I usually get around 6 - 7 hours of sleep on Saturdays and Sunday

I sometimes get really tired around 9am and again around 5pm - but I don't nap unless I'm really not feeling well (otherwise I can't fall asleep later)

Hi! I am 24 years old and during the week I average about 7 hours a night. I try to get to bed by 8:30 or 9pm and I wake up around 4am to exercise before work. On the weekends i'll get about 8 hours. Its weird because i will get up early on weekends like 6 or 7am and eat breakfast and take a nap for an hour or so. Even though its about the same amount of hours during the week and weekend, I think when i'm waken up when i don't wanna be, i feel extra tired, meanwhile, if i wake up on my own with the same amount of sleep i don't feel as bad.

just turned 60, very high energy level,  sleep 5-6 hrs,  day starts at 4am.

i am amist an episode last night i think ive managed two hours of sleep after trying to tire myself out and cycling for three hours from 12-3am

 

I sleep 8 solid hours a night - thanks to Elavil, a medication that I take for IBS problems (sorry, maybe TMI.) I have very vivid dreams, even without medication. My energy levels are great, and I do not take naps.

 

When I was younger (grammar through high school) I had horrible insomnia and slept probably 2-4 hours a night for years. My energy was terrible then.

I'm 21 and usually get around 7 hours a night.  I have to keep my alarm clock out of reach from my bed b/c I'm capable of turning it off and going back to sleep with no memory of doing so.   (one of these might be useful, but I'd probably wake up to lots of tiny shards of plastic one morning...)


Left to my own devices, I'll sleep 9-10 hours and feel great.  I definitely don't get the "tired all day" feeling that some people report after sleeping for a little longer than usual

pgeorgian: i haven't hit a yoga class yet (no time) but i want to for that reason.  my md said that until then to tire my body out as much as i can so that i'm physically tired, in which case my mind should shut off.  because that's my issue: turning off the thinking cap...

Im 23 female I get ~8 hours of sleep and take a morning nap with my 20 mth old son. I have a low active thyroid and find my self always tired and yawning...has gotten slightly better since the meds tho.
I agree with pg about yoga helping you sleep. In my yoga classes before they teach you some techniques for quieting the mind. It makes a huge difference in helping you sleep.

I'm 24. I get between 8-10 hours a night. I'm trying to cut back to 7-8 hours though because I tend to feel tired when I shouldn't be.

I'm 30 and get on average 7-8 hours of sleep each night.  I have much more energy when i drink lots of water during the day.  I've noticed on past days if i don't drink at least 2 - 20oz bottles before noon - i've got the yawns by 2:00 -3:00 in the afternoon.
