sleeping habits and water weight?

Quote  |  Reply

in the past week i've gained about 5 pounds, which i believe to be water weight as i have been exercising often and have not been overeating. plus, it would be incredibly difficult to gain 5 pounds of fat in a week. right?

another reason i believe this to be so is because i had been up 4 pounds one day (odd for me, whenever i retain water it is never more than about a pound up), and then the next morning i had about 3 large bowel movements and it came off. the next morning though it was back up and it's continued to creep up.

i've been trying to find a reason as to why this is happening so spontaneously (not my period). coincientally, i started gaining the weight a couple days after i started school. basically, i was getting up for school 2 hours later than i had been going to SLEEP. i had been going to sleep at about 3:30 am and sleeping until 11 am, whereas i'm now going to bed at 10 pm and getting up at 5:30 am.

if the weight gain and the change in schedule hadn't occurred at basically exactly the same time, i wouldn't have thought that shifting my sleeping habits could have an effect on any sort of water retention. but it seems that it's the only explanation. is this possible or am i probably wrong?

(oh; only ONE other thing i can think of is that i recently started using honey in my breakfast daily, and since then my weight has sort of been creeping up. surely not because of excess calories because i still fit it into my daily intake. thoughts?)

How much do you eat each day?  If your regular diet is very light (or too light) then any additional food will make you gain alarmingly.   Lack of sleep only tends to affect weight when the person eats lots of sugary things because they're fatigued and need an energy boost.  You're getting 7.5 hours... that should be fine.
I don't really know how to respond other than the fact I feel the same exact way. I have been gaining since my period (about 5 pounds) for a week now. I thought it might be bc I got a new puppy (lack of sleep) and stress from a new job. But my days have been filled the same, same exercise, same foods, same calories (1500), so why would I be gaining that much either?

I am honestly blaming the sleep... Not sure?
