Sleeping in late?

Quote  |  Reply

Ussually this only happens on weekends, but since I didn't go to school today I ended up waking up really late in the day. Usually on the week ends I just don't even bother counting up my calories cause I just have breakfast and dinner since I wake up so late. Today I woke up really late also, 4:00 Embarassed ahaha. I woke up had some oatmeal and I am just laying around the house now. That brings my calorie intake so far to about 320. I am going to eat dinner later but I know its not going to bring me up to 1800 calories for today. Is it okay that I undereat on these days? I ussually get up to 1800 on regular days but I just don't feel like stuffing food down my throat. Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know what I should do? I don't want to undereat, it just I don't want to be waaaay overly stuffed ether when I am not even hungry. Any advice?

do this...make oatmeal.

1 serving (150 calories) cooked in 1 cup 2% milk if possible (140 cals) add in 2 tbsp peanut butter (190 calories) 1 tbsp honey (60 calories)

2 whole eggs cooked in 2 tsp oil (220) topped with 1 oz cheese (100 or so)

1 glass milk/juice (140)

That's a grand total of 1000 calories for eggs and oatmeal with a drink. not a lot of food and no reason not to eat it.

hope it helps. if you don't have this stuff let me know and i'll come up with something else but don't make excuses to be 1000 calories below where you should be when you can easily be a couple hundred away.

if you add dessert in there...just a cup of yogurt or ice cream then that's another 150 cals...that would put you at 1150 plus your 320 (which is abysmal considering you knew you woke up late and should have eaten something more calorific) and you're at 1470. not bad.

Haha wow Chrissy good call. My suggestion was going to be far less healthy. When I sleep way in like that, or end up with like 400 calories by the time dinner rolls around for one reason or another, I use that day as an excuse to enjoy something I normally wouldn't get to within my allowance, like a 2 cheesebuger meal at McDonalds, or a pasta dish either at home or out at a restaurant. Those days are my favorite hehe. Or have a massive piece of dessert or something like that ;).

Ooo great idea Chrissy (: But seeing as I already had breakfast, could you make me a dinner outline too? LOL I am cooking for myself tonight so it can be basically anything. Thanks by the way (:

buckcherry...haha that works too but i have a feeling he wouldn't have taken me seriously if i would have said that.

darkbeam: eat something you'll ENJOY and know that it's not going to hurt you in the slightest if you're within your calorie range. go out to eat as suggested by buckcherry...2 mcdonald's apple pies, a fudge sunday, and one of their grilled salads will put you at about 1200 calories and really it's not insanely unhealthy either. 250 for the salad, about 450 for the pies i thnk, and another 300 for the sundae or thereabouts. not too shabby and the pies are amazing.

Ahahah this is what I normally do to! (: Just its not the weekend so I didn't want to treat my self tonight. Such as I'll have a blueberry muffin or something. There is a local bakery that has them, SO GOOD! 580 cal's per muffin though! Aha.

dinner: 1 serving ww pasta (210) toss in 1 tbsp olive oil (120) 1/2 cup peas (70 calories) 1 oz slivered almonds (160). Slice up some chicken breast...about 4 oz (150 calories).  That's for the pasta. If you have pesto then add that to it as well and reduce the amount of oil to about 2 tsp.

Now on the side have 2 slices ww bread topped with 2 tsp butter/margarine spread (140-160 cals for the bread, and about 50 cals or so for the margarine).

Then have a glass of juice or some chocolate milk or something on the side (150 cals)

That's about 1000-1100 calories again. If you don't have peas then use something like canned or frozen corn. If you don't have chicken use sausage...even breakfast sausage if you have it. If your bread is low cal then add another slice to equal the 160 cals.

I'm sorry to be patricular...

Chrissy, you usually give great advice to everyone, but I think suggesting that someone eat 2 McDonald's pies, just because it fits into their calories for the day, is totally backwards.

Fast food is over-processed, loaded with preservatives and additives, and is so far from real, whole food, that I can't even express it. These extra, unhealthy ingredients will ultimately be detrimental to one's health, even if they do end up losing weight. Fast food makes us lethargic and slows important chemical production, because we are ingesting chemicals, additives and the like.

So I agree, eat something you'll enjoy because you have those extra calories, but please let it be real food! Make your own apple pie, with fresh apples maybe? It would taste better, be healthier, be more fun, be more economical and would not buy into a problematic industry. Fast food is a huge problem on may levels, and I honestly don't think it is ever worth spending your money or calories on.

I do not mean to start anything, I just think if CC is to promote health, it should be always and on all levels.

folkharpist: please read ALL of my posts. clearly it wasn't my initial reaction to recommend the 2 pies but honestly, it's not THAT bad. one can eat 2 mcdonald's apple pies and be perfectly healthy. the stats aren't terrible and if he has the time to make a darn apple pie then he wouldn't be posting about something he can make to get his cals in quickly. that's quite the feat to make an apple pie and i doubt he has the ingredients on hand.

Here's the stats for the apple pies. Not the best but definitely not the worst. also notice i didn't say have a crispy chicken, fried salad with ranch dressing. a mcflurry with candy bar pieces. etc.

calories:500  calories from fat 230

fat 25g

 saturated fat 14g  350 65 7g protein 26g sugar  5g fiber  450 27 30 2

So with 500 calories in 2 pies, 25g fat, 14g saturated fat...you would get an equivalent amount of fat and saturated fat if you were to have only 350 calories of cheddar cheese instead...my point is that if it's something that he WANTS then it can definitely be accommodated. is it the HEALTHIEST choice...no? but i gave him options.

Thanks for appreciating MOST of my posts, but do realize that i did provide healthy options as well. :)

Folkharpist,

I think Chrissy's point is that every now and then it's okay to eat unhealthy. If it's late and you're too tired to cook something healthy, eating two apple pies from McDonald's certainly isn't the best choice, but at least it's better than starving yourself. If you find yourself getting into a habit of doing this often, then obviously you need to reassess your diet. But if this happens say once every other week, I really don't see the problem.

I am all for natural, whole, organic foods. But somedays I just can't eat natural food, whether because I'm traveling and eating at a guest's house and don't want to be rude or simply because I'm too tired to cook.

Darkbeam, you have so far received straightforward replies. But I think had you asked this question in real life rather than on CC you would have received a few blank stares and something like "does it matter?"

Someone your age doesn't need to be paying close attention to what they eat and counting calories. Trying to make healthy choices is a good thing, but there's no need to overanalyse. If you're not restricting calories on other days there's no reason why eating a bit less if you get up late in the afternoon is a bad thing.
