Sleepy after working out and a couple other questions...
I started really watching my calories recently ( well anyways, after seeing a couple of my friends for the first time after a month and them telling me that I look bigger ><; ) So now I eat from 1300 - 1800 a day (closer around 1800 because I've been going places like Disneyland and the LA Fair recently). I try to eat four to five mini meals of 300 calories daily, and I try to do some sort of exercise, whether its walking, running, or dancing to one of those dance exercise DVDs every day or every other day.
But lately, I've been getting dizzy every time I stand up (headrush??) and especially after I get off the treadmill I feel really dizzy and a little nauseated. That's been going on for almost a month now. Then, the last two days, after I exercized i immediately felt really really sleepy. Now this might be because I sleep about 6 hours a day, and a couple of days ago I slept only 3 hours and never made it up... but I don't know if its normal or not.
So my questions are... 1) Does anyone know why I'm getting dizzy? should I be worried / go see a doctor? 2) Is it okay for me to sleep right after I work out? Will that reverse the effects of my workout [i.e sleeping slows down metabolism but exercise raises it, so wil the two cancel? ]
thank you!! :)
Make sure that your getting enough water before and during your workout.
I think its okay to sleep right after a workout, but usually if you eat something right after you can fight the fatigue!
Also, if you DO sleep right after a workout make sure to do stretching after so your muscles don't get tight! I don't know if there are any metabolic changes to sleeping after a workout, but the fact that your so tired is bad! GET MORE SLEEP!!!! Lol.
If you are worried about the dizziness, and you can't figure out the culprit I suggest seeing a doctor just as a procautionary. You never know! It might even just be a vitamin deficiency or something like that, but its better to know than not know!
Have you ever considered you may be either under nourished or may have low blood pressure. I would rule out the LBP first and then maybe jack up the calories...and make sure you are eating clean. Another thing is if you are coming back from a layoff and are eating super strict/clean, your body may be just getting adjusted to this new way of nutrient supply.
Feeling a bit sleepy after a strenuous workout is not too unusual I think, but the dizzyness is not so good. I think, as suggested, make sure you have plenty of water.
Are you sure you are getting enought vitamins in your diet? My wife sometimes has dizzy spells if her Iron intake is too low, so make sure that is good too.
As for the sleeping reducing metablosim, it can actually be that a lack of sleep will reduce your metabolism, it can also increase your appetite! Fitness coaches even say that if your time is so limited that you have to choose between sleep or your workout, get the sleep and make your workout shorter (but more intense).
that happened to me when i started dieting. i wasnt getting enough calories. it also happened later, but this time it was because i wasnt getting enough soduim. i think its probably one of those two things. you need at least 500 mg sodium per day i think most people get that. also, i dont know what they sell in disneyland but im assuming it isnt whole grain and good fat. eating food that actually nourishes your body does more than use up your calories for the day. it gives your body the energy it needs. if you eat things that are made with bleached flour and sugar its going to leave you feeling like crap when your blood sugar gets low. if you eat whole wheat, fruits veggies, nuts, etc you will have energy longer. make sure you get enough fat protein and carbs in your diet.
I just starting excercising and my head kinda feels like its a bobble head. lol Like it takes more effort to keep it upright. I wouldnt say that Im dizzy, just a little on the light-headed side. My Mom seems to think that it's because I havent worked out in a long time my breathing is bad so I dont get enough oxygen when Im working out. But if it's been happening for a long time, maybe check out the doctor. I think I will anyways to see what he thinks.
