I was drinking a Kroger's Brand slim fast for breakfast and one for lunch (I ate a regular dinner and some kind of fruit for a snack during the day) and it worked really well. The Kroger's Brand has a Creamy Milk Chocolate that tastes amazing. Once I have the money to buy them again, I'll probably substitute lunch with one. I'll keep my coffee for breakfast and a regular dinner & a fruit/healthy snack during the day. Lunch always was my worst mael because I always went for something easy & quick (especially when I was at work), so that's why I always did the Slim Fast for lunch.
I did slimfast a few years ago using the soy shakes and it worked really well for me. However, they don't have those anymore and they were the only ones I liked. I think the key to what worked is I went with what my trainer (I worked at a health club at the time) told me to eat calorie wise, and ate every two hours or so. Which is ironically, similar to what I'm doing now, only I've lowered my cals and I'm not using slimfast anymore.
I think slim fast is great for those who enjoy it. It is a very easy fix in the morning for those non-morning people (like myself), and it does have a lot of necessary nutrients.
Just realize that you won't continue to lose 5 or 6 lbs a week. Its still not healthy no matter what plan your on. The first week of any diet it normally does happen as your body adjusts to an increase in water intake. You will pry slow down to 1-2 lbs a week, and this is healthy. Just make sure you're getting enough calories, and good luck!
thanks for all your comments, I think you guys are right, I should up it and gradually work my way down because if I do go a little over I beat myself up about it. So Starting monday i will move it to about 1500 cals a day that way I can be fuller. and like u said work my way down.
now thinking about it 1250 was a little drastic for me just starting off my diet.
Glad to know a lot of people have tried this diet bfore. Im going to weigh in on monday but I feel like I gained and not lost, but hopefully its a different story when I get on the scale...I went out last night so when I get off work Im going to take a nap, and hot shower and work off them extra cals from last night. lol![]()
well thanks for posting and progressing with me.
i went on for a few months binging like no tomorrow with no weight gain luckily...but heres to hoping to lose some weight!
okd-my weigh in from friday....
no budge same 193.00
well here's to a new week everybody...im gonna set a goal today to loose at least 1.5lb by friday...and I am uping my cals to 1500.00
goodluck everyone.
good morning,
This morning I am 190. I feel like i fluctuate during the week? Like I feel like Im bloated, one day I feel like I lost weight one day I feel like I gained it, the day I feel like I lost it I feel good...but the days I feel like I gained I feel like its not working! whaat is going on? Im going to be a little more strict. So how is everybody elese doing or feeling? any body elese weighing in today?
Tasha - you will fluctuate during the week! Everyone does...there are SO many things that can make a difference in what you weigh! Sodium intake, water intake, having food in your system, working out...doesn't matter what diet your on, all these things can make a difference!
Thats why a lot of people go with how clothes fit, and measurements. I still weigh in, but just to keep me on track. Mainly I'm going with my measurements (which are getting done again tonight!).
So don't stress! Remember, it takes about 3500 cals to lose, and 3500 cals to gain...which I doubt your eating 3500 cals over maintainence in one day.
Its not so much an average per meal, however I believe the current RDA (recommended daily allowance) is <2400mg.
And cc, it pry was the reduced fiber...depending on what you were substituting for the shake :)
Tasha, about.com says this about salt intake:
While the 2005 USDA Dietary guidelines state that the maximum sodium intake for a healthy adult should be no more than 2300g per day (about one teaspoon), the average American consumes nearly twice that amount, which adds up to almost 7 pounds of salt per year.
While the link between sodium intake and high blood pressure is acknowledged but still not completely clear, the USDA Dietary Guidelines recommend that people with high blood pressure and those at risk for high blood pressure should aim for no more than 1,500 mg of sodium per day. At risk individuals include all African American adults and middle aged individuals of all ethnicities and genders.
We've started using a salt substitute when cooking and at the table, because both of our blood pressures are starting to climb and, with the new guidelines, we're both pre-hypertensive, apparently. Bummer. The shakes have 260mg each, so that's about a third of my daily sodium--not terrible when I'm eating a lot of fresh food and as little processed as possible. It's so easy to get too much in prepared foods--my favorite "Better than Bullion" is so salty! Your lunches don't sound too bad. Watch your sodium intake on the diet analyzer to compare to days when you feel bloated, and see if there's any correlation. Be sure to add any salt you add to your foods to your food list for the day to keep an accurate count.
Brandy, I think you're right. The shakes have guar gum, which is an excellent soluble fiber. Apparently, I really need that!
didn't get to weigh this moring, I will go on monday....
but let me tell u about the week....I haven't had any slim fast all week...I had eggs, muffins, donuts, subs, 1 cheeseburger, fries, 1 day this week I barely ate. So I would say I had a fall out week, but I don't want to fall "off" the wagon.
Every one has a slip up, any of you had any slip ups recently? Next week is the big FAT DAY. I will eat very portioned food. turkey and ham. Are YOU prepared?
I'm also getting sick. getting a cold screws up my asthma. bummer that sucks, its always right before the holidays.
I think youre going about it the right way. Its not really something you can do for the rest of your life...and I know ppl who have lost a ton of weight on liquid meals, didnt start to introduce food back into their diets and gained the weight back. So as long as your having a healthy dinner & snacks you should be ok, IMO. The person who said to start replacing the slimfast with reg meals as you get closer to your goal weight has the right idea. And def keep an eye on the sugar content - I perosnally think the low carb one is the way to go.
I even keep a few in my fridge at work and home...for the days I forget to bring in bfast or lunch or am too lazy to make something. I figure its better than skipping meals and it does have some nutritional content to it.
Good luck =)
