Does the Slim Fast Diet work?
Hi,
I'm 5'6, weigh around 141 lbs and would like to lose another 8-10 and tone up! I need something to help me along ...and because I don't have a lot of time to prep meals etc I thought this might work.
Any info, advice, success stories would be appreciated...or if anyone wants to try it with me and log their progress and give support would be awesome too! :)
Meal replacements are a poor substitute for a healthy diet, portion control and exercise. Most have very little nutrition and you will end up feeling fatigued rather than energised. If you don't have a lot of time to prep meals, make time. Your health is important enough to set some extra time aside. A healthy meal doesn't have to be a complicated thing either. A wholegrain sandwich with some lean ham and a sliced tomato is a much healthier, more balanced meal than a shake or a biscuit bar.
Well, I depend on Slim Fast from time to time to get me through some days when I am around unhealthy choices, when I am rushing, or when I am not hungry but need to have something in my system.
They satisfy me for that meal and they also help keep me in line calorie-wise. They offer an excellent source of protein and calcium as well. I would not rely on them every day but I do use them 3-4 times a week.
EDIT: I only use the shakes, not the meal bars, etc.
I second ericka about slimfast. I drink them for lunch and usually bring veggies or fruit with me to round out the meal. I don't have much of a lunch break because I cram in homework time during then so I don't have time to stand in line to use the microwaves at work and eating at the company cafe is costly. They're not the best nutrition wise and they're very high in sugar but if you're in a pinch you can substitute a meal for one (except breakfast! I would definitely eat something substantial for breakfast.) I don't know if I could count my weight loss sucess on using them alone but they're fast and easy and you don't have to cook them (I'm such a lazy bum!) The chocolate shakes tastes the best and the strawberry is awful. I've been losing about 3 lbs a week but I have a lot more weight to lose than you do (50+). Do you have any dinner companies where you live- they're like big kitchens where you can prepare meals for the week/month. We have a bunch here in MD but I don't think they're chains. This might be a good option if you're short on time but want to have freshly prepared meals premade. But back to your original question- I've been using them but I don't think they're making me lose weight- they curb my chocolate cravings though!
I drink SlimFast for breakfast--I'm a college student so I like to roll out of bed for my 10:00 class at around 9:35. It's a good on-the-go meal, but like any diet, before starting you have to ask yourself if you can maintain it forever. That's why healthy eating seems to be the one thing that gives people success. As soon as you stop the SlimFast diet, you'll regain the weight.
I wouldn't say that you would regain the weight if you drop slim-fast, you just have to be mindful of what kind of food you replace it with.
Oh, and I agree, chocolate is the best, strawberry, not good at all. And make sure they are really cold, even better.
