Slim fast Diet?has anyone tried??

Quote  |  Reply
I?ve been in this hungry hungry Hippo stage for about two weeks, no matter how much I eat I?m not satisfied.  I decided last night that I?m going to try the slim fast diet for a week to get my body normal calorie intake. Basically its two shakes, two snacks (slim fast bars), normal dinner and fruit!   Has anyone else tried this approach??  Thoughts?? Ideas??

Doesn't sound like enough calories to me.
This would be a good approach if you weren't hungry, but since you are, this could lead to trouble. The bars and shakes claim to keep you full for a while, but it's different for different people. If it doesn't fill you up, then you could end up binging at dinner and wasting all of your day's work.

I suggest having a free lunch instead of a dinner and replace your dinner with bars or a shake, and only allow yourself fruit. This will prevent major binging. Eat as many veggies as you want if you get hungry, they are your friends in weight loss.

Hope this helped, good luck!

I sort of use the SlimFast diet, but it's more of a variation of it because I get sick of eating bars and shakes all day. Now, I usually have a shake for breakfast, a light lunch (usually tuna, yogurt, etc) and a healthy dinner with lots of veggies.. if I get hungry I'll have a bar during the day.
I kind of had a problem with the SnackBars because they aren't actually very healthy... they're more like candy than anything. It does make it easy to count calories, but honestly you're better off just having a fruit or a different granola bar or something. The Meal Bars are a lot better, and they do tend to hold me over for a couple hours, but I don't like the diet as a whole. I'd recommend just mixing their products into your diet, because they do provide a lot of protein without many calories. Oh, and go for the Optima products, they have way less sugar and still taste good! =]

It?s about 1400 calories a day.  My goal is about 1500 on CC so I think it?s about where I want to be.  I can add a apple or banana to get up to 1500.  1400 not bad on a day I don?t workout too.
I think Slim Fast is only a good idea if you don't have anything else to eat.  It's better than starving but I wouldn't live off it for even one day.  Eat more protien.  That should satisfy your hunger.
I tried it for a while, but I didn?t find the shakes very filling or satisfying, so I wound up counting the minutes until I could have a snack ? and those weren?t very filling either.  Ultimately, I was distracted during the day because I was constantly thinking about real food, and was only really satisfied when I finally got to the reasonable dinner part.

My thing is that I truly enjoy the experience of eating ? chewing, crunchy textures, different tastes, smells, etc. and those shakes basically couldn?t replace that, and I was left with massive cravings even when there were periods when I wasn?t even hungry.

I suspect it?s different for everyone, though.  As long as you keep have a healthy calorie intake, you could try it to see how it works out without a problem.

VEGGIES VEGGIES VEGGIES even if you only have 100 calories left 100 calories of broccoli is SOOOO filling!  Add a BUNCH of veggies to every meal and you wont be hungry :)
I have the new slim fast shakes  - optima. They are different from the old ones that didnt fill you up. These ones actually do. I prefer the chocolate over the vanilla and strawberry b/c i find it's thicker and makes me fuller.

These have 24 vitamins and minerals, 13g of protein, 256 calories (the vanilla and strawberry have a bit less), and 5.3g of fat.

I drink them on Tuesdays and Thursdays for lunch b/c i have class from 11-2 so i cant have a meal. I sit in class sipping on this and it lasts me until dinner (by that i mean i feel full until dinner) at around 6pm. Sometimes i will have a fruit or yogurt after classes are done just b/c i know i didnt have enough calories for lunch.

My sister also drinks them for breakfast and she feels full until lunch.

In my opinion I think they are great for ppl who cant have an actual meal (they are meal replacement shakes). I also think its good for ppl who dont burn a lot of calories during the day who dont want to have a lot of calories in them.
Watch out-- the 3rd or 4th ingredient on the label is partially hydrogenated soybean oil. HELLLOOOOO trans fats!
The problem with slim fast...it's not balanced nutrition, it is seriously lacking in fiber, and it doesn't teach you how to eat properly. I actually use slim fast meal on the go PROTEIN bars for breakfast occasionally when I am in a hurry. But typically, I find that a low carb oatmeal (like the weight control or the low sugar versions by quaker) with a couple egg whites are perfect when I have the time.

Also, increase your lean meats and non-starchy veggies. And make sure you are drinking a minimum of 64 oz of water each day (100 oz is best). These are much better ways to control hunger than switching to the slim fast plan.

Good luck on your journey!
I don't suppose this is exactly a "diet", but I use the Slim Fast shakes for when I'm sick and have trouble eating a regular meal.

And, again, it works differently for different people.  I find them very filling, but I know my Mom tried them a time back and was still hungry.

When I just drank ONE shake I felt like I gained 10 pounds. It's good if you ONLY drink that or eat that bar. But it made me feel heavier.
I always thought I was never a shake person.  Then recently I became an arbonne consultant.  They sell skin care, health, nutrition, and weight loss products.  For the past 2 weeks, I've been replacing only my lunch meal with 2 shakes - 1 protein shake and 1 fiber shake.  This really brings up my protein and fiber intake each day, and I am having more regular bowel movements.  The 2 shakes are quite satisfying, in that I DON'T feel hungry after.  I've been losing steadily, so I think as long as you don't go over your calories and eat a healthy breakfast and supper - IT WORKS!!!
Arent't alot of the Slimfast products high in sugar?
Within the last three months I have lost 26 pounds with the help of the Slim Fast Optima products.

I think that they're fabulous.  I dont necessarily follow the plan...I usually have a shake at breakfast, some low cal yogurt and a Optima bar for a snack, then a light lunch (A big Salad or  Weight Watchers Smart Ones microwave dinner if I'm at work), The for dinner I make lots of fun vegetables and some protein.  I have never felt so full all day and lost weight so easily as with the Slim Fast Optima products....I LOVE them!!
Never met anyone who followed the plan and lost weight for a long period of time.  But I've known people to use some of their stuff as replacement meals.  You can do that with other meal replacements too, just watch the nutritional info.  I use cytosport muscle milk strawberry banana after gym workouts because I like the taste, and it's got some decent stats.
