Personally, for me, it's more like two to three. It's good because I need something in the morning before my 10:00 class, and I actually don't mind the taste, so I'll gulp one down around 9, but then I'll usually have my lunch at 11:30ish, before my 12:00 class. But that might be because my body's used to that pattern now, and so it gets hungry again faster.

They didn't for me.  I found myself craving real food constantly, despite their advice to have healthy snacks during the day.  I also found the lack of variety to be a major downer - there are more flavors now, but still not enough to make it a long term managable eating plan.

I like different flavors and textures of food, so a liquid diet centered on the concept of a sweet shake for two meals of the day, every day, just couldn't work for me.

Moderate  |  Quote  |  Reply I find the Atkins Protein shakes better tasting, but they only last about 2 hours max as fas as the protein part goes; enough to get you through a 90 minute workout at least, plus the vitamins, minerals and calcium are a bonus.  The Vanilla and Chocolate aren't bad, just don't like the Chocolate Royale.  I find them the cheapest at Wal-mart and are good to curb the hunger pangs if you're on the go a lot.
Also slim fast shakes have a lot of sugar.  Try Dedicated Woman Womens Whey protein powerd.  1 scoop is 125 cals, 2 g carbs, 1g sugar and 27 g protein.  I liked to mix with 1 cup of milk.  I've only tried the chocolate and it is to die for.  tastes just like chocolate milk (the kind that is normally packed with sugar and 300cal/cup) I usually couple it with a banana, or small yogurt and eat it as a snack twice/day.  One jar is about 33 servings and is 21.99 (27.99 w/shipping) 12 cans of slimfast is almost $13!

The shake has 190 calories. That's not a whole lot to last for 4 hours. It's about the equivalent to a fat free yogurt and an apple or a piece of pizza. I much rather eat one of those two options rather than a fake shake. I know that they are only for meal substitutes but it shows that it doesn't make a whole meal. They are also packed with sugars that your body burns first. You could be headed for a crash. 190 calories of good carbs would be a better option. They last longer and are slowly used for energy by your body.

Good luck with the Slim-Fasting for 4 hours every morning.

I agree, they are disgusting.

Oatmeal w/ nutbutter & a grapfruit makes me full for 4 hours & the taste is WAY better. Like, infinately better.

No I don't think they are good. When I tried them it got to a point that I was just craving for ANY food in the end.

I now have a bowl of porridge in the mornings with added wheat bran and a piece of fruit or low fat yogurt and the same for lunch and for dinner I make sure I cook a healthy well balanced dinner. I have found this has worked for me rather than the shakes.

I like them and they keep me full. Right now I have 1 sometimes 2 a day and it keeps me full for 3-4 hours.

TY everyone

These things taste RANCID and the fact that everyone agrees there BLAH - then I will pass

 THANKS!

I love the shakes! I have one with a salad for lunch, or sometimes with dinner and it really helps keep me full.  The only weird thing for me, is that it makes my pee smell SUPER strong...but I have a feeling it's the extra vitamins in it...weird, but I can cope :)

LOL  they are kinda funky!  i like to have them now & then, just because i'm too lazy to make something...  like right now!  i just walked for 30 minutes & that'll be my breakfast  :D

i sure wish they were less calories, too...  AND yes, i'm always hungry right after drinking it!!!  it must be all that sugar leaving me with cravings...  i dunno

WHOA - I had NO IDEA the amount of sugar in these things - Im better off sucking on a sugar stick - ouy and those probaly taste better - I need on the go ideas then - I am ALWAYS in the car going from activity to activity with my children and I refuse to eat at fast food places or haul 2 (sometimes 4) small children into a healthy place for something to go - I am always rushed to pack snakcs to go like veggies or fruit 0 then if I do they always get hot in the car - ew and I tried those insulated lunch bag thing but those dont remain cold - ouy - THE DILEMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ha

Need a couple of reusable ice packs to put in your insulated bag.

AJ

i don't mind the slim fast shakes. i also keep some in the car ( i live in snowy ohio so they keep cold) for a quick breakfast if i'm running late or for after the gym if it's going to be an hour or more before i eat.

i also keep a stash of zone perfect protein bars, luna bars by clif, south beach living bars and fiber one bars in my car and my desk when i need a quick pick me up. some are high in sugar so i try not to eat the same ones day after day.

can you microwave something before you get in the car? try some campbell's low sodium soup at hand. warm food is supposed to help you feel full longer. pair that with a protein bar and it should curb cravings for a little bit. good luck!

I like them.

I never could eat breakfast, so now I have one before my coffee (6 am) and around 9 am, I eat a light snack. This gets me through until lunch.

Since Jan 5th. I'm down 11 pounds, so it appears to be working for me. Smile

Personally I think they

(a) Taste Rank!

(b) do not promote healthy eating

How can anyone possibly make a life change in the way that look at and eat food if you are just drinking a shake. I personally would prefer to study healthy foods and make up a personalised diet sheet. If you are a person on the go then do what I do and get an insulated bag and make all your meals the night before, bar my breakfast I do 99% of the prep work for lunch / dinner and snacks the night before, that way I just grab my lunch bag in the morning that contains 2 snacks, fruit, and my lunch and when I get home I jsut grab the dinner I prepped the night before and chuck in the pan or oven.

I do not believe that anyone is that busy that they cannot get into a routine of eating better and would prefer to drink a sugar loaded drink.
no, it's dumb. why would you drink your food when you can eat it?!?>

I found one way to make them taste a little better.  I freeze them, then set it out a little before I want to drink it.  It takes longer to drink b/c it's frozen, but it seems to taste better when it's really cold.

but why torture yourself... i just dont get it.

i'd rather have fresh whole foods than some vile tasting EXPENSIVE drink.

if, you forgot your lunch or snack, on the other hand. thats a diffrent story.
