hmm I've never tried one but what is so good about them. a salad and a glass of water sounds great to me.

I tried it once. The chocolate ones were to bad as long as they were REALLY cold. I didn't end up loosing any though, The drink didn't satisfy be so I would end up snacking on bad stuff :(

i think the shakes are gross, some people love them though. I like their bars every now and then i will eat them if i am on the run and need to grab something quick to eat.

well, if you are a chocoholic, they may work for you. the dark chocolate shake satisfies and somehow fills me up for lunch. i think because it has potassium in it, it helps to balance out my electrolytes which makes me feel great. i drink the target knock of brand, which is a few bucks cheaper, but pretty much the same stuff, i think. because i feel like i am treating myself with chocolate, i am not as tempted to snack on other things, so i am happy eating fruits and veggies during the rest of the day and having a nice home cooked meal for dinner.

but do you see weight loss??

I try to keep two boxes on hand for those days when I wake up late or for a snack at work but I don't consider it a meal.  I find most of the time i'll have one if I'm craving something sweet and it curbs my appetite.  Example today I woke up really late cause its been SO hot here (CA) and I didn't sleep well.  I had 15 min to get dressed so I just grabbed a Slimfast and an orange and ran out the door.  My normal breakfast would be cottage cheese/fruit, high fiber english muffin but when your crunched for time its convenient and you get a little protein with them which is good.

I like the one that is powder and you have to mix it yourself....I like the vanilla high protein one I mix it with a bananna and a few ice cubes and some non fat milk in the blender.....I have trouble drinking the whole thing because it fills me up. With the bannan it's like 280 calories. I have no trouble not eating till my next meal time infact I have to be careful to make sure I drink it early enough to still want my next meal. so I find I have to drink one about 11ish (lunch) to still be hungry enough to eat dinner around 5-6

I've just started doing the shakes again.  They worked in the past. I'm taking the optima shakes...one for breakfast and one for lunch.  I've lost a few pounds already and just started on Monday.  It gives me the structure I need. :)

I've only ever had the shakes when I was on my way to work and didn't have time to pack a proper lunch (or breakfast, depending what time it was). I think they work really well at filling you up, but I've had no evidence of them helping me lose weight. I just use them to replace the odd meal, as I said.

To me SlimFast seems a bit like a gimmick, but if it works for some people then why not give it a go?

I lost just under a stone last year on the slim fast plan. That was with a bigger dinner than they suggest and normal eating on the weekends. I must have been on it for about 6-8 weeks. The problem for me was that it was unsustainable. It's such a dull way of feeding. I just enjoy food too much, so I much prefer my 1900 diet. Eminently do-able, and with the help of this site, I have fun looking for new different foods.

I'm not using slimfast, but I'm doing a protein shake in the AM and at lunch w/ a piece of fruit and/or veggies, and a small snack in between, and a healthy dinner.  I'll be weighing myself tomorrow likely, and I'll see if it's done anything :)

i know someone who lost a considerable amount of weight following the slimfast plan and he's kept it off. he now maintains by eating (and eating a lot!) and keeping active. it isn't something i would try tho. i'm not sure how many cals the shakes are but i'd much rather have a salad and a quorn fillet (only 45 cals per fillet).

Sure you will probably lose weight if you use the shakes or bars as a meal replacement and don't over do it the rest of the day. I've done it and I've known plenty of other people who have. I consider it sort of a cheat vs. eating right. Nearly everyone either gets tired of them or reaches their goal and then goes back to their regular eating that got them overweight in the first place. I do know one person, a doctor, who's had one for breakfast every day for years. I personally don't know how he can stand the strong artificial sweetener taste!

You'd be OK if you can lose the weight and then start eating right but this is such a difficult process to learn. I really think you're much better off just eating in a healthy way straight off.

I really like/support the shakes simply because I never have time to make a healthy meal and don't have the money to try to eat out all the time. And when I do eat out it's incredibly difficult to pic something healthy. Last summer I lost ten pounds with the slim fast shakes simply by drinking one in the morning and splurging on a bigger meal at night. This left me eating about the right amounts of calories but not feeling like I was depriving myself. However, this obviously won't work for everyone.

I've lost 5 1/2 lbs with my first week of using the slim fast shakes again.  I'm hoping to lose another 5 lbs this week.  If I can continue losing I'm going to be very happy!  It honestly hasn't been that hard for me to stick to this time around.  I'm sooo glad!
