Slim-Fast Side Effects?

Quote  |  Reply
Alright, so I just had a slim fast bar for lunch since I was short on time and now I feel horrible. Not just bad, but to the point of throwing up and the feeling keeps getting worse. I've heard of people who are allergic to soy or have lactose problems can't eat them, but I don't have either of those problems. Is there something else in them that could be causing this? Anyone else with similar problems and maybe some ideas to feel better?

I've been feeling the same. I have never be lactose intolerant. I can drink a gallon of milk or a tub of ice cream and feel fine. But I started taking slim fast for about 3 weeks now and for the past week I've been convinced that I have a stomach bug....I always feel sick about an hour after I have the shake. I've also noticed that I've been breaking out more since on the diet....weird!

I don't know about the bars, but I know that they started putting aspartame in their powdered drinks... I was a daily user of Slim Fast for like 7 years for my breakfast, but my stomach can't handle the new aspartame that they put in it so I had to stop having it. I get sick to my stomach if I have anything with aspartame in it. Maybe the bars have aspartame in them and you are the same as me?

The drinks have quite a bit of fiber in them. Not a huge amount (the generic brand has 16%), but the bars probably have even more. If you're not used to it and/or already getting enough fiber, possibly it could make you sick? Yesterday I was also sick, and I had a slim fast drink (knockoff brand), but I also managed to get 49 grams of fiber throughout the day, almost twice as much as you really need... However, I think throwing up would probably be different. Undecided I don't think Fiber can do that.

My drink also doesn't seem to have aspartame, but if slim fast bars do, that could possibly be it. They might be throwing a lot of iffy ingredients in there to attempt to make it appear healthier.
