slimfast anyone?
I'm sure that this has been asked on the forums-- so if this is a repeat question I apologize!!
Has anyone had any success with the slimfast diet? I'm wondering if the shake for breakfast and lunch and then a sensible meal for dinner is really healthy? I've tried a few shakes in the past and they were pretty sweet, but if they work I'd be willing to give it a more serious shot.
Thanks :)
Even if you can lose weight that way, it isn't very healthy. Slim Fast shakes are basically skim milk and sugar (with a higher price tag.) Also I believe two shakes and a "sensible dinner" each day is going to be an extreme caloric restriction (the kind that can disturb your metabolism or at the least increase your chances of gaining the weight back.)
basically if you go on the slim fast diet you're flooding your body twice a day with large doses of sugar and no fiber (which is bad for you) and probably losing as much muscle/lean tissue as you are fat.
DRINKING DOESN'T FEEL LIKE EATING!!!
So I'd still feel hungry and unsatisfied, but my blood sugar would be all over the place. ugh. I think there are better ways to eat almost 300 calories for breakfast and lunch. Crunchy stuff that fills me up and satisfies me. And isn't mega-sweet.
I'm sure it works, it was just really unsatisfying for me.
Yeah.. I'm really rethinking the slimfast diet. Good thing I didn't go out and buy any :)
Thanks for the info!
i tried slimfast and it made me sick to my stomach. The first two days were fine and I did feel full for 4 hour like the bottle said, but I still wanted real food. The third day my stomach said no more. I had sudden diarreaha not long after my morning drink of it.
I have noticed since then that I need a lot of fiber in my diet or I have stomach problems. The lack of fiber in slimfast may have been what caused the problem for me.
I think it is much healthier to learn how to eat real food and have it become a habit, that to try to lose weight drinking a "shake".
"Eat real food, watch the portions and do some exercise." Works every time.
I like slimfast. I do not like to eat at 6 AM.
I have been drinking a shake at 6 AM since Jan 5th and I am down 12 (soon 14) pounds. I would loose more if I did more exercise, and I will be incorporating that soon.
I have a shake for breakfast, 2 snacks and 2 meals with consist of 1/2 cup protein, 1/2 cup starch and as much veggies as I like. Sometimes for snacks, I'll have their bars, sometimes, I'll have fruit or a snack about 100 - 150 calories.
I use them as a snack during the day. I usually have one serving of the high protein chocolate powder, with 8 oz. skim milk and a teaspoon of instant coffee mixed in. That's my 3pm slump snack, while my co-workers head for the vending machine. I find it helps.
The actual diet plan? No, i've never done it.
Well, when I went on the slimfast diet a couple years ago I lost 25 lbs, then got tired of it and stopped and the weight stayed off. I had a shake in the morning, fruit when I got hungry, a big meal for lunch, another snack when I got hungry, then if i got hungry at all for dinner I had another slimfast. It worked really well for me but I was also 200lbs at the time and im only 5'4" so maybe it was because I had so much weight to lose in the first place that it stayed off. Slimfast was awesome for when I work because I just drink a slimfast can on the way to work and I dont have to spend time on breakfast. then another slimfast can and a yogurt or something for lunch. I dont know how many calories I was having a day but I dont think it was very many.
(DOH just saw this was march 08, darn me for forgetting its 2009!)
