I just wondered if anyone has experience with slimfast optima drinks, I was just given two eight packs by an ex-dieter. They lost some but just got tired of the drinks and owed me gas money and I got paid in slimfast.

No.
I've still got some in my cupboard, because they just weren't working. Sometimes I'll drink one as breakfast while I'm in a hurry, but that's about it.

I had tried that plan a couple of times in the past -- never lasted past one day. It's just not for me, not to mention, now I don't believe in it. I was HOOKED on those shakes though. I think I even put weight ON because of them. I used the dry powder (I think it was the "Optima" -- not sure). They were SOOOOOO YUMMY. If I were you, I would just use those shakes on a day when you're busy and running around or something -- like you would a protein bar. How many calories do they have?
I tried it ohhhh hmmmm...when I was 22 I think...I lost 25lbs. but as soon as I went back to eating breakfast and lunch
*poof*
the weight came back.
better to just log your food totals and balance cals in with exercise (cals out). I've lost 26lbs since jan 2 so far.

The calories are about 180, depending which flavor; they have a good amount of potassium, which I need; and the calcium is a plus. I think I'll use it as meal replacement when I'm on the run, and atleast I won't be deficient in nutrients. It beats fast food at the drive thru when doing all my errands. I weigh enough that any reduction should make some fat loss at first, and my friend says these do curb hunger. I will have to keep a good watch on the scale and keep trying those jeans on! Thanks....
Yes, I tried slimfast. I was on in for a week and its the only time in my life that I have ever fainted. I was following the guidelines, 1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch, then stupidly thinking that this was healthy because the adverts said so! Went to the gym, fainted, they are all sugar and no salt. I don't recommend them at all,
Healthy eating all the way!!!

I don't think the plans work really well together.... but if you are busy and need to have some nutrition on the go I found that the shakes are really conveinient. But I only would have them if I was really busy and needed a meal FAST. So like maybe three times a month. They are handy for me to keep on hand if I have a full day of classes or work.
I like the myoplex lite shakes. I drink like one a day as a snack. (Usually after the gym) They have like 190 calories and 25g of protein. I try to never use them as a meal replacement though. Sometimes I have them for lunch or breakfast if I am too busy to leave work. But I always make sure I have them with a piece of fruit or some yorgurt. Not something I would reccomend making a habit of though. I personally am trying to change my eating habits for life not just lose weight quickly. I have lost about 24 pounds since Feb. And still counting. I can't do cardio when I don't have enough to eat. I do 60 minutes 5 days a week. So, the slimfast plan would never work for me. I also tried them Atkins diet. Once again I couldn't work out because I was too tired all the time from lack of Carbs. I don't think Fad Diets work. If they did everyone would do them. I lost weight with Atkins, but as soon as I ate like a slice of toast they all came back plus some.
Ok I know everyone has said negative things about slim fast but I LOVE them. I eat one for breakfast and one for lunch every day (and I really could see myself doing this forever, even if just for breakfast). They taste good, and I don't get dizzy or anything.
If you DO get light-headed, then you aren't giving yourself enough. I eat a banana with lunch or some other fruit, or a half a turkey sandwhich, or something to that effect. I eat all day long. Maybe that is why I haven't had a problem though. But I've lost 59 lbs so far. So it must be doing something right!
Hope this helps.
I don't think you need to follow "the slim-fast plan" but I think they help me. Plus I work 30-35 hours a week, have 15 hours of classes, and a million study hours/homework hours a week, and the gym every day, so I need some on-the-go fuel.

You're the first person I've seen that hasn't gotten sick of the taste of them after a while. It's good that you didn't take the instructions literally and that you eat more than just the liquid and one meal.
Definitely. If you are too strict, as soon as you start having one drink a day, allllllll your weight will come back on before you know it. I LOVE the taste. So it's not hard to think about waking up and drinking it for breakfast!
I was on slimfast too, and it really worked for me. I loved the taste, i didnt get sick of the flavours at all... I think it depends on what your life is like... I was crazy busy with a full time job and full time school so the shake and snack thing really worked for me cause I didnt have time to make lunch anyway. I would buy a can of powder or a few shakes and try it out for the week. Its the same as any calorie count plan, just log your calories, have fruit and veggies and other healthy snacks and see how it goes!
good luck!!!

I have done and failed the slimfast diet a few times, too. I just recently was given 10 cans by a coworker who was going to throw them out. Rather than trying to do the just slim fast diet, I'll drink a can for breakfast or for lunch. But not every day and I allow myself some veggies or something to snack on between breakfast and lunch. I'm actually eating 6 SMALL meals a day rather than 3 LARGE meals a day. I am full all day and am still able to keep between 1200 - 1800 cal/day (min-max for me). I do this to curb my binge eating issues. If I'm full all day, then I wont overeat something I shouldn't have in the first place. I have to say, it's been a week since I've even thought of chocolate! Is that sacrilege?
I don't think a slimfast once in a while as a meal substitute would do any harm - the trick is to just have it once in a while, not every day, otherwise you're going to start hating it. :)
You can do it - Good luck!
*hugs*

Is that stuff is so good why would your ex-dieter give them to you? Apparently they don't like it for some reason.
I would prefer cold hard cash over some shake drinks hahaha...
Well, but i guess it's not too late for you to return them...

yea yea on the cash thing, but it's a friend and now she owes me one! I'll collect when the time is right.....I guess these drinks were actually her husbands,,,he lost weight really well on them (like he really needed to), and didn't want to lose anymore. But most men I know lose weight easy on any kind of calorie cut, so I can't go by his success.. Until I can work out a decent length of time (injury), these will work when I'm too busy to fix a meal, and I can take them in the vehicle. But I can see that once I am doing much cardio again, it would not provide enough to keep me from possibly fainting as well....Thanks for the info!
I don't do the slimfast diet, but I do like the optima shakes. I use them to help get my vitamines, etc. I don't think I could do the whole diet because they don't fill me up. I like to drink them in the car on the way to work if I want something lite if i know I might eat heavier later on in the day. I have steadily lost 20 pounds and 3 sizes exercising, ww points and the shakes. But each person is different and what works for one will not work for someone else. Try and see if you like it and it fits into your plan.
I gained every time I tried Slim Fast.
Slim fast is a piece of crap product that should be taken off the market or advertised as a quick weight gain aid. The first or second ingredient on the damn thing is SUGAR of all the things they could put in a product that is suppose to help you lose weight?! SUGAR will do one thing only ladies and gentlemen and that is release insulin like mad and if you're releasing insulin you ain't burning any fat! And the other problem I have with fatfast is that the serving or "meal" is so tiny and packs like 300 calories when mixed with milk!! so in addition to taking in a lot of calories you are doing so in liquid form so you won't feel full and you'll be releasing fat storing hormones due to the high sugar content..this is a spell for a diet disaster. It's a stupid product along with those 100 cal snack packs of cookies and crackers of all things!? How could the public be so foolish to buy this?
With slimfast you may as well just replace your meals with a butterfinger ...it's just as high in sugar and has fewer calories (270 cals) and you will be left feeling just as hungry as before you ate your "meal"
Oh and to answer your question yes I tried stupid slim fast long ago and given the tone of my response do I really need to say NO IT DID NOT WORK.
If you want weight loss foods save the money you would waste on these useless sugar laden products and just buy veggies and chicken breasts to grill and believe me you will lose weight.

I've done slim-fast off and on and lost around ~ 10lbs on it? I'm not sure, though.
If you read the cans of slim-fast... there are actually NEW directions since it was brought to their attention that the calories are too low. They have a new line called Slim-Fast Optima which has a lot less sugar (~25% less?) and the cans are 220 calories each. They also advise that you eat the drink, PLUS a small snack with each drink for breakfast and lunch, then eat a healthy meal for dinner. For example, breakfast would be a shake and a banana, lunch would be a shake and half a sandwich, and dinner would just be a regular healthy dinner.
If you go to their website, http://slim-fast.com, they will provide you with 100% free tools and meal plans. They provide you with meal plans based on how many calories you need based on weight, height, and activity level (same as here,) and then let you choose from various snacks and recipes (including their products) to meet your daily calorie requirement. Their plans also don't go below 1200 calories, so if you are doing the plan correctly, you should be fine. They also provide you with six meals/snacks a day instead of just three.
Hope that helps...

I tried Slimfast for a while over the summer, and it completely
backfired. I ended up putting on weight! I thought they tasted fine,
and they made me not hungry for about two hours, but then I was hungry
again. So, for me, they were pretty useless - I'd be better off eating
a low-calorie snack, like fruit. I couldn't handle using them as
replacing an entire meal, since they just felt like drinks and didn't
fill me up at all. So, they ended up being a high-calorie snack instead
of a low-calorie meal. Never again - it was the worst diet attempt I've
ever had!
