Slow-paced dieters? Let's rally!!

Quote  |  Reply
Hi everyone!  I've read so many threads where people are dieting quickly and eating like 1300 calories a day and stuff like that.  I've got a very slow-paced goal for myself.  I want to lose 63 pounds but plan on doing so over the next 23 months.  I'm in no rush and don't have the discipline to "crash diet".

I'm consuming 1700-2000 calories a day and trying to work out 20-30 minutes/day but I'm REALLY bad at motivating myself to do that, especially during the August heat.  I'll be doing more bike riding as fall comes closer.

So, who else out there is dieting slowly?  Who needs motivation to work out?  Let's get on each other's friends lists and start supporting each other.

Good idea, that always gets people talking. :-)

I'm ~ 237; it's almost TOM so I'm going to have to ignore the numbers for a couple of days.

Started at 270 on April 1st. Definitely slow-paced, I'd say, but I have learned a ton in these EIGHT MONTHS (!) and I've had good weeks and bad weeks, and even not-so-good months. I'm re-committing all the time. :-)

I suppose if I can be at 220 by April 1st 2008, I'll have lost 50 pounds in a year. And that's really not so bad after all, especially knowing that I'll never gain it back. I've worked too hard and learned too much to do that to myself!

You know it baby! Thats the beauty of these slower diets! WE will NEVER gain it back! ok, who else wants to post thier starting weight , the date they started and thier current weight?

Fifty pounds in a year! That would be terrific! The previous time I lost weight (Wink THIS will be the last time!) it took me 2 years to lose that much (on Weight Watchers Undecided--I don't like Weight Watchers because you have no clue about what you're eating, with their Points system, so how can you learn anything about eating healthy on your own? You're a slave to the WW system). I think you'll be seeing that 220 by April!

clarkplace, great idea to jump start this wonderful thread! I've made some friends here, and would hate to see it fizzle out. Okay, here are my stats: I started Aug. 1 weighing 172.5/173, and today I weigh 159.5 (it's been jiggling around between 159 and 160.5 this month). So I've lost 13 lbs in 4 months. I'm hoping to finish the month at 159; I've been there a couple of times this month, but as I said, it jiggles around. TTOM now, though, so that may mess up my 159 by 12/1 goal.

What I'm most pleased with is finally being able to gauge my progress with something other than the scale--I can now fit into my old jeans again, which thrills me no end. I'm hoping, in a few more months, I'll fit into my next-oldest jeans again--a size below these ones (does anyone else have 2-3 sets of clothing in their closet from years of yoyo dieting?). I'll be thrilled beyond measure if I can wear my size 8 shorts again next summer!

bump* Hellllooooo out there.....

Bump* back again (volleyball, anyone?). What happened to everyone on this terrific thread?! Come on, folks, I'm starting to feel like the conversation killer again! Wink
*bump* Hey guys, I'm still around! How is everyone?
I am too, but I am not so sure about any others...Cry
Me too...looks like it's just the three of us. I'm still losing slowly but surely; I do miss the interaction on this thread in particular. I felt I had a lot in common with the posters. Wonder where they all wandered off to--maybe they all started losing weight in leaps and bounds, and didn't want to depress us stragglers! Does anyone know what's been happening with kthompson, the one who started this thread? She seems to have fallen off the radar, although she's still visiting CC.
I'm here too except am not doing very well diet wise... just cant seem to keep to it! i dont visit this website much, except for conversation! certainly dont keep score of what eat etc, which is a little silly of me i know!!! but yeah, as soon as xmas is over, I'll be here in full swing:-) hope to see u guyz here too!!! xx

Hi --

New to this thread, myself.  Been on cc since Oct 15 or so... Have lost only 13# since then (19 since really starting Oct 4), hoped to lose more quickly, but I'm fairly sedentary & 51 yo, and I have to play the hand I'm dealt.

I still want to lose about 85 more lbs.  If I can do it by this time next year I will be ecstatic!  I have already gone down one size in clothing - and bought a smaller size jacket today than I have bought in years - am enjoying that aspect of the weight loss.

My downfall is not exercising enough.  That said, I am going upstairs to get on the exercise bike.  It is too cold & windy out for me to go out walking!! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Slow is the way to go. I started in May with a goal of losing 40 pounds. CC's calculator said it would take until August or September. I scoffed and figured I'd be done by July. The joke is on me, I just hit my goal weight this week. But you know what? I'm glad it took me that long because it gave enough time for my eating regimen to become a habit instead of a burden.
I do! I do! I took about one year (yeah, one year for God's sake!) to lose 17 lbs. Well it's mainly from increased amount of activitiies since I don't really restrict my eating habit. I do count calories, but the counting usually ends up more than it's supposed to be so yeah *shrug*

My goal is to lose about 10 lbs more. for now, i need to at least stick to 1200 cals daily and to my exercise program. I recently just moved to another gym and i'll start exercising again on January. It's kinda scary for me this week since I haven't exercised at all (yeah i know, bad bad bad) =S and i've been eating...well emm festive-ly LOL i hope the scale won't be so cruel to me....

Yeah, i hope the i could make eating healthily as a habit, not as a burden that gives me pressure most of the time.

@pattikins@
yeap, that aspect is one of the few things that keep me going. few days ago i just bought a sweater with size M (usually go for L or XL) and that made me quite happy :)

Happy Holiday everyone! Best of luck.

Oh my!  Finally some like minded people here!  I just started in here, it's my second day.  I'm 38 years old and I need to lose weight, but I want to make it a life style change so I'm going slow and steady with it!  I feel like I'm starving on the low calorie low carb diets and tend to binge.  I just found out I'm pre-diabetic so I need to make these changes now before it's too late!  My Doc is very supportive of making the changes slowly as long as I make them.  What a novelty.

My overall goal is to get back down between 150 and 160.  I'm sure it will take quite awhile as I'm up at 275.  I'm thinking sometime by 2010 this will happen.  My short term goal is to reach 200 before my oldest graduates HS in 2009.  I've already lost 10 pounds before I found this site so it's getting there!

I mainly need to motivate on moving more and avoiding the emotional eating.  I'm at the gym 3 days a week and in physical therapy the other 2 days.  I have just started on the food changes, but the nutrionist wants to see what I normally eat before we modify anything.  Once I see her next week we will see how much I'm going to cry over changes.

I hope to add you all to my friends.  It helps to know there are others out there who are looking to make life changes and not just crash diet.  Happy Holidays

Hi everyone! I hope you all had wonderful holidays!

I'm glad to see new people on this thread. I've been losing on CC, albeit quite slowly, since this past April. I'm hoping to be able to say I've lost 50 pounds by the time my CC anniversary comes around, and then I'll have another 50 pounds to go.

It's slow-going for me, but I'm glad - it allows me to enjoy life and not focus every minute on dieting and exercising. I'm just eating and working out reasonably and loving life, and my body rewards me for that. And I don't want to get gross loose skin, so the slower, the better for that purpose too (so I hear.) I've averaged out to around 1 lb/week (although sometimes it's 2 pounds, and often it's nothing), but I'm ok with that as long as it keeps up.
