*Slow and Steady* Challenge
Well, I am not sure if this group will even appeal to anyone, and I am not looking for too many people who will be up for this. If no one signs up, no biggie -- but I am wondering if there is anyone out there who, like me, is more interested in losing just a little bit each week, but being able to stay on track longer!
My "goal" is to lose 0.5 lbs per week. I could lose more, who knows, but if I lose just 0.5 per week I will be more than happy. This challenge is going to go for eight (8) weeks!
Starting weight (for the challenge):
(Optional) Goal for final weigh-in:
Age:
Height:
03/07/09 -
03/14/09 -
03/21/09 -
03/28/09 -
04/04/09 -
04/11/09 -
04/18/09 -
04/25/09 -
Weigh ins will take place on Saturdays -- If you forget, it's cool, just update your weight when you remember or wait until the next week. This group is about support and encouragement about sticking with it -- not about pulling huge numbers.
I'm in! I can totally try for 0.5 pounds a week! After all you know what they say the slower it comes off the more likely it is to stay. So count me in. ![]()
Age: 22
Height: 5'3
Will give my weight on March 7th! :)
Sounds like a good plan. I am in the March challenge for the 31st for 10 pounds. So I will do both.
I'd like to share with you what my doctor told me. Just as some words of encouragement.
Most people gain 10 -12 pounds a year if they are not careful, I am satisfied if you loose only 1 pound a month because that puts you at what you could have gained. HOW IS THAT FOR POSITIVE THINKING AND A GREAT DOCTOR THAT ENCOURAGES YOU.?
Take care and Good luck to all.
God bless us on this journey
Here's another challenge that might work in tandem with this one! Just a suggestion. It will help you try to get a more balanced diet.

I'm with you! :)
Starting weight (for the challenge): 137
(Optional) Goal for final weigh-in: 133
Age: 22
Height: 5ft 6
I'd like to join you. I'm in another challenge until the 1st of May but I can use all the support I can get! I've always aimed low on my goals since I'm more likely to 1) acheive them and 2) stick with the changes that got me there so that I can maintain the loss.
Starting weight (for the challenge) 252
Age: 40
Height: 5ft 8
Silentdeadlyrose -- Exactly! I'd rather keep it off than lose it again and again! Welcome =D
1heavenlybody -- That's EXACTLY the attitude I'm talking about! You have to be satisfied with seriously realistic weight-loss and just keep with it. Totally positive thinking and your doctor sounds fab. Thanks for your imput I can't wait to hear more from you as the challenge continues!
ocarina -- (haha love the name! zelda love?) Welcome!! I look forward to seeing you around for the next while!
augette -- Hey, yeah. Join as many challenges as you need! The bigger the better and I hope this group can be some support to you! I really agree with your thinking. Low goals are usually a lot more reasonable to work toward, and then when you achieve them you can feel great about yourself instead of feelng that you've fallen short! Welcome aboard!
I've been a CC wagon jumper and am trying to get back on. I had my best success 1 1/2 years ago when I started a similar support group/challenge. I stuck with it for a few months but...
Too many people here can make you feel bad if you aren't losing 1-2 pounds a week or make you feel the need to race to a goal. I have to do it slow as I am lazy and need to build up to these major lifestyle changes. I need a motivational group for people like me. Thanks for starting this group and I am SO in! I'll post my weight next Saturday... with the hopes of it being a 1/2 pound lighter than today's weigh-in. ![]()
I am in too. I like the idea of slow and steady and keeping on track.
Age 43
Starting weight-I will weigh in on the 7th.
Height 5'4.5 inches
I'm in:
- 44 y.o.
- female
- 5' 5" (well, 4.75" really, but that just seems too nit-picky)
- 197 lbs. as of sat am 2/28/08
- (and ive already had too much salt today, no help at all! on a pickle jag apparently . . . they are soooo good today! )
kthompson92 -- I completely agree. Sometimes I am blown away by the numbers people pull each week and to be frank, I think even if that was possible for me it would mean huge backlashes of gaining. It's always easier to take your time and work steadily toward a goal, as you said working up to it! YAY I am so glad you are back on the CC wagon and ready to work your stuff!! I'm sure you're going to do GREAT and I look forward to seeing you around the group =D
Augenblick -- Woo hoo! Thanks for being on board! We're gonna rock this thing. See you on the 7th!
Bubbles556 -- Oh my gosh lol I used to be 5'3.75" and it drove me nuts! I always felt like I was cheating or lying when I said 5'4" so I did what you do, which is follow it up with an explaination ahha Luckily, I just went for my physical and it turns out I guess I had a little more in me and I grew that last quarter inch! =D But, for the sake of the group, you can be whichever one you want -- we don't mind! haha Good luck, glad to have you =)
So this is a great start! It seems like we have a solid group of people who are interested in taking part! Yay! I look forward to seeing everyone's weigh ins on the 7th =D
Thanks for the encouragement, journeyfit. I know that some weeks I might be lucky, work hard and lose 1 or 2 pounds (esp. in the beginning) but it's good to have a small goal I KNOW I can meet and, hopefully, beat on occasion. But I also know I won't feel bad if I can't do it.
=D That's what the group is all about. I agree -- it's nice to know that your aim is realistic, but if you happen to do even better then that's just icing on the cake, huh? haha I also think its cool because you know that as you get further down the road into the weight-loss, then you don't feel like you're doing worse because you're pulling smaller numbers. I am definitely looking forward to it!
Aaaack, I had a massive binge out of stress on Tuesday night - I bet I will have lost nothing this week. Depressing :(
Don't worry! haha I just weighed myself this morning and I am way up, so you won't be the only one! How have you been since the binge? Back on track? It's so easy when binges happen to just get totally off track but if you can find it somewhere in yourself to eat better afterwards and maybe do a bit of exercise, you might be surprised at your numbers!
Don't get dicouraged!! We're thinking long-term here, and the truth is.. Down the road, who's gonna remember one binge tuesday? It certainly isn't going to change your goal -- you're on your way!! That's the important thing. Process sometimes includes a little back and forth.. Don't be discouraged =)
It's so frustrating! I already had my dinner, and it was a healthy one, then I had a glass of wine then suddenly I was eating pizza and chocolate :( Grrr. I am totally back on track, now - the day after I was a bit ill (I think it was dodgy pizza) so didn't eat much at all, and since then I've been eating a steady 1200, so hopefully I will be OK - I'm a little scared of stepping on the scales, but tomorrow is the big day, so I have to! :)
I need to avoid alcohol, I think. Once I drink even a tiny bit, it's like my body goes "screw the diet, have some fat :3!"
wow ocarina, i just looked at your profile. Good Job! You've lost a lot of weight! and it looks like this challenge may be your last month of loss and send you into the mythical land of maintenance! You've done a lot of work here!
On my part, I am excited to weigh in tomorrow. its ttom, so who knows what the scale will read, but its exciting anyway. I went back and looked at my weight last time my cycle started. I was 3 lbs heavier. Last month was one of those ttom's where dairy fat seemed to hold the promise to solve all of life's problems. today im excited to notice that im not really craving much of anything, my calories are actually a bit low compared to this time on most days, my exercise has been getting back on track throughout the week, and, just now returning from the grocery store i notice how different the choices i'm making are than three months ago. my fridge has more veggies in it than it has in years, and i know most of them will be gone in a week, and i'll be back in the produce department. its really amazing. so even tho the shifts in lbs are moving slowly, the shift in how i approach my eating and food needs is really starting to show my efforts! all to say, that even if the scale is resistant saturday morning, i see other evidence that these efforts are paying off, and i can trust they will continue to!
see you all tomorrow for check in! have a great friday!
Hee, yes it is a Zelda inspired name, journey :3 It's awesome when fellow geeky types notice :)
Thanks, bubbles :3 Yeah, it has been a long road, and a pretty slow one in comparison to many of the success stories on here - I have such terrible trouble with seeing food as a reward rather than fuel, and am always falling off the wagon! I can't wait til I start to maintain! I can have something naughty every day if I can be good with it - I really miss ice-cream, although this time round I'm going to weigh my portions and not just sit in front of the TV with a tub of Caramel Chew Chew ;) Although I find myself fond of veggies, too - I get through so much of the stuff as well :)
Well, it's Saturday morning here in good old England, so here goes:
Starting weight (for the challenge): 137
(Optional) Goal for final weigh-in: 133
Age: 22
Height: 5ft 6
03/07/09 - 135.8 (I have been walking like crazy for more than two hours a day since Tuesday - walking is awesome)
Time to weigh in:
Starting weight (for the challenge) 252

I can't seem to get past 250. I was down to 249 mid week and now back up. I've been been at 250-252 since the beginning of Feb. It's time to change things around! The weather is getting nicer so maybe I can start adding walks and start working on the couch to 5K.
Good luck everyone!
Morning everyone! Here's the start of the challenge! I am happy some of you have already imput your numbers, and I can't wait to hear from more of ya! =D
Starting weight (for the challenge): 152.4
Goal for final weigh-in: 148
Age: 21
Height: 5
03/07/09 - 152.6
I have no idea what happened this week. Somehow, I am up. Honestly, I didn't binge, I tried not to eat crappy foods. Granted, I didn't exercise, but I did try to make a defecit. Obviously my counting is off or something, because this is ridiculous. On Tuesday, I was at 151.8! Where did it go?! I have no idea.
Otherwise, to augette and ocarina, WOW -- you guys are doing GREAT! Ocarina -- seriously, that walking sounds like it's doing some damage haha I might have to try that
augette, I know exactly what you mean. I am always floating just above 150, and I don't know why my body keeps rising up here. Like a buoy :| THIS TIME, though, we're going to take it slow and steady. We'll break down that wall and never look back!
Bubbles -- Sorry I didn't get back to your entry before~ It sounds like you are making some serious changes in your life and that isn't easy. I am very much looking forward to your weigh-in as well to see where your journey is taking you! Good luck, can't wait! =D
OK, here goes!!
Age: 29
Height: 5'3"
3/7/09: 215
