What is the deal with women and girls of all ages dressing like low-budget prostitutes on Halloween?

I realize they want attention but I personally don't like that kind of attention! What do you guys think?

I think it's sad if it IS about attention.

I also think, mostly, it doesn't hurt anyone else if they choose to wear these costumes, so I don't know that it's really my place to judge.

I am in favor of them. People shouldnt be ashamed of their bodies and should get a chance once in a while to show it off. Theres nothing wrong with the body...its doesnt need to be covered in loose formless clothing...

Edit: Errm, one condition though! They have to actually have a body that can pull off the costume!
well, personally, i like dressing sexy on halloween, but not slutty. there is definitely a line between cute and sexy, and trashy.

i agree that lots of girls choose trashy. i think a lot really go crazy because it's pretty much the only time a year you can go out in a corset and boyshorts and have an excuse for it!
Haha, I hate that!
It's ok for an older girl (I don't like it, but it's not so bad), but when I see 9-12 year old girls dressed literally as sluts for Halloween, it makes me cringe. :/
If an adult chooses to dress that way -- fine by me, I only have a problem when teens and little kids are dressed that way and the parents are the ones buying these "omg so cute" outfits for their 7-13 year old daughters...
no no duzzie, you're confused! they aren't dressed like sluts, they're dressed like Bratz dolls! wait a minute....doh....
I personally don't think it's offensive.

With the odd exception here and there,  I've usually dressed up "skanky" on Halloween. I dunno if I subconsciously do it for attention, but I know that I work hard to look the way I do, and I like to show it off, especially on a night where it's seen as "acceptable" (if you're 18+... I really find it disgusting when I see young girls dressed up like sluts, and maybe I'm being a hypocrite here, but oh well!).

And it's just one night of the year, any other night where I go out partying I'm dressed fairly classy.

Halloween is the time of year when you can try out all of the outfits and personas you've always wondered about and not face discrimination or judgement.  Men dress up as women, women dress up as men, women wear slutty clothes and straight-laced people can dress like goths.   It's about seeing how the other half lives.  No one gets hurt, and the more outlandish the costume, the better.
Lorik.. you're ok with it cause it's eye candy... but as a girl, I refuse to dress like that at Halloween. I am not ashamed of my body at all... but i respect it, and i don't think having my butt hanging out of a miniskirt is respecting yourself.

I may come across as a 19 year old nun here, but I'm not. I have no problem with pre-martial sex, porn and whatever other "un nun like" things you can think of... But seriously, there is a time and a place for showing everything you've got. A party is not that time or place.

Plus, I would like to think that there are still some guys around that appreciate a woman who doesn't dress like a hooker, Halloween or not.
I don't like kids dressed sexy or slutty, cause that's just wrong.

I don't care if adults do, because it's not like they're hurting anyone with their apparel.

Next year I am working my butt of and striving to be able to go out in any of Kate Beckinsale's costumes from Underworld or Van Helsing... Bustiers and high boots!

I honestly have never understood the appeal of dressing skanky on Halloween even before I became a Christian (as an adult).

I understand that sexy is one thing, but it differs greatly in definition between people (brain is the sexiest part of the body to some people). I just can't see how a gal can go around with various reproductive organs hanging out in plain site. I think most would agree that it can be taken too far.

This makes me think about the scene in Mean Girls where she opens the door with a low cut, push-up body suit, fishnets and stillettos, "I'm a mouse, see?" pointing to the ears.

I dress completely conservative all year round. Halloween is my one night I get to wear whatever I want and be unashamed of who I am. I find it a very empowering experience.  Its once a year, I'm not hurting a soul, and its all in fun.

Children however should definitely not dress sexy. Whats with that new trend lately anyway?
Lorik.. you're ok with it cause it's eye candy... but as a girl, I refuse to dress like that at Halloween

Whats wrong with eye candy? Even I would consider dressing up eye-candy-ish (now that i have the body at least). Its not about male or female, its just about playing around and dressing up in a way you couldnt normally even think about.

Its fun / playful... its not a bad thing... just having fun in an unusual way (but thats what holloween is for!)
Slutty Costumes rule!!!
Slutty costumes? I disagree for the fact that people made the costumes. It's the person wearing it that creates it's level sensuality. I've know people that couldn't make anything look slutty, even if they tried. Halloween is about Live Action Role Play for the Holiday event, being something that you aren't.  I've also seen women in adorable outfits such as a Genie called slutty. I think it's jealousy over how cute they filled out their custom. Some people have to deem them dirty/ or distasteful. Yet, at the same time I've seen a few scandalous Halloween outfits in my time. I think there is a time and a place. ( And of course an age. ) But, if all of those are in order than it's not slutty. Nor is it my place to deem someone it anyhow. I've also noticed normally those who have their own personal self esteem hangups deem others slutty casually. It makes them feel better about themselves to degrade others personally.

People shouldn't be so quick to judge others by Halloween attire. On a lighter note those customs aren't low-budget. Therefore, that makes them High Class Prostitutes.  Lol
My daughter had complained her friend (both 16) would be dressing as a slutty Dorthy/Oz.  Daughter already has issues with her being very sexual (telling friends they should have sex already and discussing her own sexlife with them).  She was going to be stopping by and I was prepared for this sexy costume.  I thought.  Four inch high heals, ruffled crotch-high skirt that went up in the back to show off lacy red underwear and low cut front exposing most of her large chest.  And her mom's waiting in the car parked out front.  I dont remember the last time I was so speechless.  Literally, I could not come up with something to say.  She actually did a turn around for me and I had nothing.

After she left, I got a ton of Didnt I tell you and Arent you glad thats not me. BTW she was being taken to trick or treat (I kept imagining folks opening their door to that) and out to eat with her mom.  In public?  I did say 16, didnt I.  This was not sexy.  Hearing of teens wearing these costumes comes no where near seeing a teenager basically dressed up for sex.  This liberal me has never felt so conservative in her life.
i dont like the slutty costumes.  One chick i know dressed that way, and when asked what are you? she couldnt come up with anything.  so lame!
The worst costume I saw was on the train...A woman was dressed up as a beaten prostitute, complete with a very short dress and a fake black eye.
I definitely agree that the attitudes make the costume.

I was really nervous about the incredibly short length of my dress (especially since I'm a bit leggy), but I got a ton of compliments...and not the offensive types, either.

One doorman at one of the bars called me "beautiful" and congratulated my husband.  A guy at another place literally said to me, "Honey, you're gorgeous, and that's coming from a gay guy."

A girl asked me to take a picture with her because she really liked my costume, and I heard another girl tell her friend she thought I was "adorable".

Yet, at another place, a girl walked by in a costume not much more revealing than mine, and some guys shouted "skank" at her.  I was afraid to walk by them, but they didn't say a word to me.

It reminds me of when I was in a Christian high school and, despite incredibly strict dress codes, some girls managed to look VERY (for lack of a better word) slutty, despite not breaking any rules about tops or hemlines.
