A small revelation regarding how/what to eat
It's 2 am, and I'm sitting up with a stopped up nose and a nasty cough. Since I have nothing better to do, I thought I'd fill you in on a revelation I had the other day. I'm sure many of you have already discovered this, but sometimes I'm slow!
Two things happened in one day:
1. While discussing what we ate for lunch (gotta love beginner level English), a student said she'd had waffles with vanilla ice cream, strawberries and strawberry sauce. (It was funny because she thought really hard to find the word in English and finally gave up by asking, "How do you say 'vaffle' in English?")
2. My husband, who usually eats lunch in his company's cafeteria, told me that he'd had blini with rasperries and vanilla sauce for lunch and that it was one of the "meals" on offer. It was not put out as a dessert.
I briefly wondered how people can stay so thin while eating such yummy, high calorie foods. Then it hit me. They don't always eat lunch AND THEN dessert. They eat the dessert AS lunch. And they only do it once in a while. Otherwise they have sensible sized desserts if any at all.
As so many people have said, no food is bad...
hi, ya i live in the czech republic and this is normal here. my school has sweet lunch once a week, where sweet like dougnuts are the only option. also i go out with friends and they will eat chese cake for dinner. they eat what they want insted of thinking they need to have a whole rounded meal...but feel cheated with out a dessert. which sometimes only the desert would have been satisying. i think its a great idea. i amean if you eat well balenced meals 90 percent of the time a sweet meal is nice and therfore not "guilty food"
So true! Sometimes I think that being so aware of nutrition is really annoying! Some mornings I wake up and ALL I want to eat is a doughnut! And even if I do it, I still worry that I should have gotten some fiber + protein too! Urgh! Or for instance with dinner, sometimes for lunch I'll just be craving a huge smoothie, but I'll make myself eat a sandwich and a small smoothie so I can get some extra whole grains in. I'm getting better though, I usually just eat what I want and only when I'm hungry. It's the way we were made to work!
apparently i'm slow too! apparently, it really is as some say, calories are calories no matter how you get them. its all about moderation i guess. that donut thats been taunting me in the back of my mind for the past few days may just become lunch one of these days! or dinner. :D but without the guilt! wow. very revolutionary idea!
Sometimes just having the sweet stuff instead of the healthy stuff is enough to keep a binge at bay.
(I learned a few years ago at a graduation party that if I ate the frosting off the cake it was just as satisfying as eating the cake with the frosting. but I've always preferred frosting to cake.)
