What snack/food do you turn to, in order to head off a binge?

Today I was heading towards the cliff, I could tell.  Not the "Oh, I ate 200 over my plan" cliff, this was the whole hog, going to eat 5000 in calories coming on.

I was looking at the peant butter jar, the JIF for the kids, thinking, hmm, how about I eat half a cup of that... when I was struck with inspiration.

I pulled out a can of Apple Pie Filling (No sugar added) and my PB2.  If you eat the ENTIRE can of the no sugar apple pie filling, it's still only 245 calories.  I spooned a serving of the PB2 on top and proceeded to stuff myself silly.  On 299 calories.

I am full now, absolutely stuffed, and no brownies are calling my name. Yay!

Does anyone else have a desperation snack?  Or if not, what do you do instead?

For some reason I have always perceived pineapple as something that's very high in calories. If there are only 100 calories in a cup of it, I think I am going to try some pineapple =D
great post!!!!!

I will be adding pineapple to my meal plan next week.  : D  sounds yummy!

surely someone has already said grapes of all varieties......   ?

how about a really low cal, crunchy / salty tasting (without the actual SODIUM) snacks?  anyone with bright ideas?

I am the queen of sweet stuff.   ( :

I absolutely love chocolate, and whenever I finish a meal I usually crave it. I have found that nonfat Jello instant chocolate pudding is actually chocolatey enough to kill the craving. In fact, lately I have been making a sort of parfait with the pudding, a banana and some nonfat cool-whip (which is horrible, I know, but I love cool whip) and it is so filling that I sometimes cannot even finish it. The whole thing has about 250 calories, and it would in fact be lower except that I split the pudding into three servings instead of four. Now if anyone can tell me a low cal alternative for beer that doesnt taste awful, Ill be set :)

I don't usually binge on food, but I do tend to overdo it on ice cream when its in the house. I like Mighty Magic Minis from Popsicle. They are mini popsicles that come in 5 flavors in a box, and at only 15 cal apiece, it's easy to eat without the guilt. And it is even hard to eat a lot because after awhile, its just too cold!

one of my friends told me about carrot fries.  take carrots and cut them up, put seasonings on them (old bay is good), spray pan and carrots briefly with oil and stick in a 375 degree preheated oven for about 35 minutes until they are tender and don't taste too carroty.  they are amazing with ketchup, and i believe that 3 large carrots chopped up is about 90 calories.  very filling!

I absolutely love crinkle sweet potato chips they give you a little bit of salt a little bit of sweet and a great crunch. They have 170 per 17 chips but they kill that craving for more!

I drink Michelob Ultra when I just gotta have a beer or 2. Right on the front label they say 95 calories! And they're pretty good, as far as beers go...

I have some ODD foods I turn to.... tomato paste, kelp noodles, nori &/or sesame seeds! ha ha! Odd I know but it works!

if you're looking for big portions but little calories, 100-calorie popcorn mini bags are seriously worth it. the amount you get is huge.

and hey if you're fine with eating as much as 300 calories, make 3 of them lol.

usually a raw carrot, or an apple.

sometimes i take some freshly cooked chickpeas or black beans and eat them with lemon + sea salt. mmm.
