I was just wondering if anyone had any good ideas for a snack that had a decent amount of protein in it as well.

I'm looking for other options for my afternoon snack, currently I usually eat fage mixed with wheatgerm and some dried fruit/nuts or else Id have a luna bar ( I only have a few of these tho, you dont get them over here, so Im trying to hang onto my last few!). Sometimes Id have a bag of soya crisps that I really like but then I have to eat some nuts or fruit with those to bulk up the cals.

So I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I feel I`m stuck in a rut with my eating, I really struggle to move out of my usual foods.

Hi!

I understand about getting bored with the same old snack. I need variety too so I'm always on the hunt for new stuff to bring along to work for mid mornings or mid afternoons- here are a few that keep me satisfied ( good protiens)

One of my favorites is 1/2 green apple with peanut butter or a bananna with peanut butter.

Another option is a few avacado slices drizzled with a tablespoon of low cal french salad dressing is yummy-

Sometimes I munch on a handful of roasted almonds. I found some in the store that are roasted with lime/chili- very tasty.

Or if I get in a hurry I just grab a non fat yogurt. Yogurt seems to be filling/satisfying for me. Try a fruity yogurt with a small handful of mixed nuts. Very good!

ok I'll try and brainstorm everything I've ever eaten as a snack with protein Laughing

hopefully there'll be something here you like. how many calories are you thinking, and do you like sweet or savoury snacks? mine are probly all between 250-400 cals but they could be altered like toast you can have one or two slices and PB you can vary the amount etc.

~ toast w/ banana & PB

~ toast w/ cream cheese and honey or jam

~ banana w/ PB

~ bowl of cereal & milk or yogurt (plus fruit too if you like)

~ 'snack plate' with babybel cheese, deli chicken slices, nuts etc...a mixture

~ glass of milk & packet of Snack a Jacks (or you could have soy crisps)

~ '9' bars...you can get these in quite a few places in the UK, they are nut & seed bars topped with carob, really nice.

hope this helps. if not tell me more about what your preferences are and I can try again! I know it's difficult not to worry about this sort of thing but try not to let the protein issue bother you too much y'know? obviously it IS really good to get protein in each meal/snack but you don't need a certain amount consistently every time. as long as your whole day is balanced you're doing good!

double figber english muffin with. wf slice of cheese, egg whites.

FF[full fat] yogurt w/ granola

8 oz milk, 1 banana, 1 tbsp of peanut butter.. [PB banana smoothie]

Dekkos-Fat Free would NOT be a good idea, IF opposed to full fat, which there is nothing wrong with, at least got with 2%, there is nothing wrong w/ fat, you NEED it!  yogurt w/ granola would be great if not fat free.

Muffins! Easy to load up with cals and delicious, whether bakery-bought or homemade.

lol skin i meant full fat not fat free sorry if FF means fat free. lol i thought it mean F.ull F.at lol

Here is a snack I made that is very high in protein

Ohh thanks guys some great suggestions. I usually aim for about 200 calories for my afternoon snack.

I quite the idea of the fruit/toast and peanut butter :-)

Innocenteyes, I know I shouldnt focus to much on the protein, this is one of my problems I tend to overworry about am I getting enough protein etc.

Thanks again for the ideas :-)

i can totally relate to that i find i get used to food and struggle to change but i also find if i dont eating gets really boring and makes it even harder. i know its a battle  but just keep trying different things if you can i wrote myself a list of about 10 different things and i ticked them off each day , and allowed myself only to have a snack twice in one week , it did get easier

i like bananas on toast

mullerices are nice dont know if youve tried them, i also brought a whisk and started making frothy milshakes delicous and fun . cereal and milk is also one of my faves and i like it in yogurts . i also like mouses angel delight there all good calcium boasting foods. not sure if thats any help h x

Thanks Helen that definitely did help, I especially like the idea of making a list to work through.

I changed things slightly today and had for my afternoon snack toast with peanut butter and agave, it was nice for a change :-)

please excuse my bad spelling

sometimes i just go with a protein shake

Cottage cheese has lots of protein.  If you don't like it plain, you can mix in jam or some raisins.  String cheese is another good one.  Oh, and tuna!  I mix up some tuna salad and dip crackers or carrots in it.

ohhh i'm so glad you had something new and liked the change! pb on toast is great :D

don't worry about the protein thing, didn't mean to judge you, just cause you have troubles overanalysing it doesn't mean you're not doing well, baby steps right? just wanted to flag it up cause i know sometimes it can be hard to tell what's the ED and what's not ;)

There are also different types of nut butter you may like such as almond butter. Here is a little recipe from a non cook. Take a banana and drizzle melted PB then roll in graham cracker crumbs or granola lay on wax paper and freeze. You can do it with apples.
