Snack ideas for work..
I work in the largest cubicle farm... I sit on my but all night...
I need a few snack ideas for my desk... I work 8 PM - 1 AM...so nothing to heavy but something that can keep me busy and my mind off the snack machine... LOL
South Beach Diet puts out some pretty good snack & meal replacement bars. 100 - 150 calories with good protein and low fat.
I'm also looking for good ideas, because I think I'm constantly hungary. I hate that feeling.
I work in a cube too!!!! The cafeteria and vending machines are very dangerous--- but I have found that if i bring snacks it helps.... what kind of snacks are you looking for
I usually bring a combination of the following (1 in morning & 1 in afternoon) for 1 day:
Yogurt with low fat granola
Soy Chips
Veggies or any kind (plain or with a little low fat dressing)
Apple & 2 tablespoons of Peanut butter
100 Calorie pack of popcorn
Pickles
Southbeach breakfast bar (peanut butter kind)
Laughing cow cheese (it is really good)
That is about all i can think of for now- hope this helps-- but yes steer clear of the vending machine unless you get pretzels or something like that.
small cans of tuna
protein RTD shakes
protein bars
I stuck in a cubicle too..
I have fresh almonds, dried cherries and granola bars stored in my drawer for snacking.. I usually mix the almonds with the dried cherries and its quite good..
Some of the things that I snack on at work (I keep them in my drawer):
Almonds, though be sure to put them into individual portions or else it's too easy to go overboard (at least for me). Half an ounce (12-15 almonds) is 80 calories.
Sugar free pudding cups, only 45 calories
Dry cereal measured into 1 serving portions
Fruit -- apples, bananas oranges grapes... anything you want
Fiber One bar 140 calories but nice and chewy so it takes awhile to eat
Fun size packages of M&M's... not really healthy, but I usually will suck on one at a time so it takes a really long time to eat the whole thing. Thus my mouth is busy and I feel like I treated myself. 1 package is only about 90 calories (20-23 M&M's).
One thing I just came up with but haven't tried yet is to make my own "Trail mix" with a few almonds, a few M&M's and some cereal (I bet Fiber One or Kashi Go Lean would be good). Again, its all about keeping my hands and mouth busy so it feels like I am eating alot... usually when I snack at work its not because I am actually hungry but more like I just need a distraction (terrible work ethic I guess!).
If you have access to a kitchen you could also try making yourself a cup of herbal or decaffeinated tea. Sometimes drinking something hot will take my cravings away.
I have more ideas if you would like some, but I hope this helps you get started!
I just got a job working in a cubicle, and I am making sure that I don't let my inactivity drag down my goals... The main thing, I believe, is to have all snacks portioned out so that you don't snack until you are full. I usually try to snack on:
nuts (unsalted almonds mostly)
apple
protein bar
steamed brocolli
water
When I worked at night, I would eat lunch about 8 pm and then I was not really hungry after that. But if I was hungry I kept healthy snacks at my desk to keep me away from the vending machines.
Instant oatmeal
Sunflower seeds
Peanuts
Oranges
Bananas
Grapes
Strawberries
Rasberries
Yogurt (light and fit non fat - 60 calories)
Whole-wheat bread
Peanut Butter (watch the portion)
Gum (less than 5 calories per piece)
Rasins
Wasa Bread Rye (3 grams fiber in two slices (17g)) eat with water to fill up
Lots of water
Vegtable juice (V8)
Low calorie single serving soup
I mix store bought hummus with chipotle and eat it with carrots.
I also love edamame as a salty snack and cook it the night before.
For cravings I keep chocolate pudding in my desk.
Definitely gonna have to suggest fiber one bars! They are yummy and only 150ish calories, but with 9 grams of fiber, they definitely fill you up!
Also, I love grapes and 100 cal bags of popcorn. Also, 100 calorie packs are nice for the occasional treat, but aren't too filling, so I tend to stay hungry after eating them.
I too keep Special K Snack bars or snack bites in a file cabinet drawer! (90 calories) .
I am also an almond advocate! buy slivered ones and mix with "craisins" and sunflower kernels.....good for you!
I just read in a newspaper insert that peanut butter is "known" to suppress appetite. It is kind of messy to have at your desk, but maybe use a low cal bar with peanut butter in it! Must be why I have to have p-nut butter in the evenings at home! Maybe there is something to that article ....anybody else think that????? Oh yeah, there's the powdered p-nut butter that people here have mentioned....I have not bought any yet, but need to---calories are MUCH less than the real stuff!
