What snack do you sneak into the movies...

What snack do you sneak into the movies to avoid feeling lonely for a big greasy bucket of popcorn?!

I ended up chowing on popcorn last night during Harry Potter.  Awesome movie, BTW!

And tonite, I am going to something similar, where tempting snacks will be fore sale.

Ideas on what I could smuggle in, so I don't dive headlong into my kids' nachos?

i don't.  theatres make very little profit from movie tickets; most of their revenue comes from the concession.  so if i have to eat during the movie, i buy.

but often i don't have anything.  i don't like to listen to my own chewing while i'm watching a movie :)

I take in Fiber One bars..It's only 140 calories vs the mountain of popcorn.

Pgeorgian, I'm not trying to sound rude, just merely curious....

Why do you think movie theaters don't make much profit from ticket sales? Do they give most of it back?  Maybe it's just where I live, but here a movie ticket is 10.50. That seems like a lot. After that I can't afford to buy food. My husband wanted a combo with two hot dogs and a soft drink, and it was 12.50!

melodie, If your purse is big enough, you could try and smuggle in a 100 calorie popcorn bag :) Or you could make a healthy trail mix with nuts and a few m&m's so you don't feel deprived. I also love roasted chickpeas, you get the crunch of snacky foods, but they are healthier. There's a recipe here along with some other crunchy health snacks. good luck and enjoy your movie!

I made a similar post here. It got a few responses with some ideas.

Today I just made a turkey sandwich at home and brought that with me cuz the movie was during my lunch hour. hehe

they have to buy the right to show the film.  it's not cheap.

I take Special K bars, or 100 Calorie Snacks... like, the Oreo crisps, chocolate covered pretzels or some Smart Pop Kettle Corn (I'll pop it before I go and take it in a ziplock...).

However, if I'm just going straight to the theatre, I get gummy bears... they're high in sugar but they're fat-free and a serving is only like 140 cals or so.

I always make sure to buy a bottle of water since I tend to feel guilty about the sneaking.

I just buy something and put it in my calorie budget. I've never gone to the movies on a whim, so I can just put away 100-200 calories for some snack or something and a diet soda. :)

Life's too short to diet.

Frozen grapes!

I loved the Harry Potter Movie too!

I would buy something to snack on but there aren't any healthy choices available. At least at my local theater.

I always buy a diet coke so I won't feel so guilty. I either don't have a snack or bring a 100 calorie snack pack of some sort.

I brought in a seedless watermelon, but I expected more from a plastic knife than I was able to make happen so it was not very fruitful.

I sneak in a box of mike and ikes and a 1 liter bottle of sparkling flavored water usually. And maybe some pretzels :)

I can believe that, actually; I have heard it said before!  But no worries, my family will still load up on the same amount of concession snacks; I'd be the only one eating something I brought.

Actually, tonight was not the movies, but a monster truck thing at a huge sports complex.  I did some minimal snacking; luckily I couldn't afford to pig out!  And I'm just going to throw in my shock that a bottle of water was $4.25.  Yipe!

Before going to Bruno, a friend and I saw an ad for Woolworths where a punnet of strawberries (250g) was only $2, so we each bought a punnet and ate those in there. With 50 calories in a punnet, it felt very good indeed.

if i go to a regular theater i dont buy or bring anything. uh...thats not food, thats crap. all of it.

if i go with bf he will buy a huge water to share and sometimes i will nom a bit on his popcorn.

when i saw bruno i drank 2 stone IPAs and bought my daughter and my sons friend dinner...if i go to an alamo drafthouse theater i know im going to buy alcohol and/or food so just plan on going at meal time or work it in.

taking girlchild to see Orphan today at a regular theater. we are both no snacks no drinks types. i will probably just take her out for a real meal afterwards.

we are going to a matinee. i have to really really want to see something to pay full ticket price. i certainly dont feel obligated to prop up the theater industry and buy food. if they cant make it, thats their problem. although, apparantly they are thriving with the economy going to crap. everyone must be game for a few hours of escape and seem to be scraping together the money to go. interesting...

i sneak in water.  i know that the movie theaters don't make a lot of money, and they need the concession sales, but i personally think that everyone should have the right to free tap water...it ought to be in the constitution.  and not those puny eight ounce cups either...

yes, as for solids, i am one of those individuals who refuses to go to movies alone, so generally, we all pitch in for popcorn.  we get the size that lets everyone have a couple of handfuls, which makes it a lot let expensive...a lot less guilt inducing.  i find that i get kind of sick of it pretty soon anyway, and then the giant tub is sitting there inducing you to eat it because you bought it because you thought you wanted it, but now you don't but have to eat it anyway, and even perhaps get a refill because well--that's why you got the large, right?

that tub is evil.

That tub IS evil. Hands down.

Everyone says I'm crazy, but my absolute favorite thing to eat at a movie is a plain baked red potato, nothing on it, eaten from the hand like an apple.  It is so much better than anything I could get at the concession counter, yes, even better than chocolate.  It's warm and chewy and fulfilling....aargh, I want one now.

I don't sneak anything in. When I am in the mood I buy a frozen yogurt and just walk with it in while eating it. No one said anything to me yet. If they sold it there, I would buy it there. They don't so they are not exactly loosing my business.

UD

I typically bring baby carrots or grapes. I also occasionally bring beer, because I'm classy like that. When they start selling fruits and veggies at the concession stands, I'll start buying them there; but until then, there is no way I'm eating any of the gross stuff they are trying to pass off as food. Except for the nachos. Can't...resist...fake...cheese...
