This is a question for people eating 6/7 small meals a day...
When I'm hungry, I usually grab a handful of trailmix, cereal, etc. I'm just wondering, when it comes to your "snack" time, do you usually plan out a full snack and prepare it? Like, making a fruit salad, or something.
I constantly find myself grabbing handfuls of stuff throughout the day, instead of actually preparing a snack, it sucks! aha.
I hope this make enough sense to you! It's hard to explain! :)
ugg..do that all the time with nuts, cereal and many packaged foods that are easy to grab. I def think that preparing snacks would help me eat healthier but I just never do (expecially when im at school).
i work untill 930pm every day, so i have to prepare/plan all my snacks, or else i will end up eating crap for the day!!! i also try to time them!! i write down everything i am goin to eatfor the day when i go to bed the night before, and i have approxomate times for when i will eat them. then i have a list of things to choose from when its the time!! it helps me from over eating out of bordom!! if im feeling a bit hungry before the time i had planned, ill have a cup of tea or glass of water to keep me going for the half an hour or whatever.
I never planned on doing 6-7 meals a day, but I habitually do that or more. My metabolism has sped up so much I get hungry pretty often. I usually end up with each large meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) being around 200-300 calories each, and that leaves me with about 500 calories of snacking for the day. I never plan what I eat ahead of time, but I do have many pre-measured or individually wrapped snacks around, and fruits. I always carry either a luna bar or a quaker mini delights snack bag in my purse, just in case- cause I really do just get hungry at random intervals. If I'm at home, sometimes a snack will just be a salad with no dressing-especially if I'm hungry and near my calorie intake limit. Other things I grab on the go are little bags of nuts, and one of my downfall on the road snacks is a Wendy's Jr. hamburger- good news is that without a bun it's only 90 cal (bun makes it about 300!)
But once you get the hang of it and know more or less what somethings calorie count is, there isn't too much issue with just grabbing a handfull and guessing what it may add to things. One more favorite on-the-fly snack is a banana and sometimes having a little peanut butter with it. For me it all works better not to plan things out for all the meals, because I may crave a certain something for a snack, and it's easier just to grab it when the hunger strikes me.
This is my problem, most of the times I buy things like chips and salsa, cereal, and yogurt that I know I will eat for a snack. Maybe I should plan out things. Once school starts up I'm going to be on the go, away from my house a lot more, that's when i do the luna bars, tasty and filling and SO good for you.
