A family member stopped snacking between meals and lost 12lbs during lent. my hubsand insist eating ever 3 hours, i tired that adn gained ( i guess i ate to much) so anyways I stopped snacking inbetween meals yesterday and can already see a big differance, I'm hungry when its time to eat! yesterday was murder today hasn't been so bad except when i give my son his snack for the day bunny crackers with that good cheese, for those of you who don't know me i'm a cheese-o-holic! we'll see how long i can keep this up there is a company picnic tomorrow which could be bad.
has anyone else tried this and seen good results?
Well to be completely honest, I've had pretty bad results with it. When I cut out snacks, I have huge highs and lows throughout the day. I become really irritable before meals and then sleepy after them. Then when I tried to eat lighter meals (heavy foods or hot foods made me sleepiest), I wound up eating the entire fridge for supper.
With the snacks I'm able to much more effectively control the quantity of food that I'm eating. It's all about the overall number of calories, so if you want two 150 cal snacks, take away 300 cals from your regularly scheduled meals.
Just an idea!
Same here. I haven't quit snacking so as to keep me from getting extremely hungry by dinner. It hasn't hurt my weight loss though! I eat..well constantly. You just have to know what to eat and when.
I don't snack. I DO MISS IT but if I do it is only an apple once a day. I try hard not to even do that 4-5 days a week. I plan my lunch and dinner so I do not over eat. I do eat three meals a day and drink a lot of water and if I get really hungry eat an apple or a piece of gum. I find that if I drink a bottle of water when I am feeling very hungry and then try to make it to lunch I do ok. I am hypoclycemic so if I feel sick I eat. The weekends I still don't snack but I allow a little extra at meal time. I am at my goal weight and have maintained that for over a year now. I exercise everyday even if I don't feel like it. I am always glad I did when it is over. Food is so hard. People who smoke or drink can give that up forever, not that it is easy but it is much harder with food because you cannot give it up and it is sooo good. :) I love sweets and chips and that is the hardest for me.
I didn't have time to snack yesterday because i was running errands all day and today i wake up and the scale has moved down more this morning!!! So yesterday i didnt' snack at all and it moved down more!! I did manage though to get in walking for an hour though and 20 minutes of cardio which is something new i added to my exercise, so it could have been that too. I dont know yet.
Clarice
Good to hear from you all! Two days down and i've been tempted a few times but managed to hold off although the apple is a good idea, i've dropped a few pounds now which is surprising.
I actually have changed my breakfast and I don't need to snack, specially during the morning. I used to eat bread with pb or oatmeal or cereal or fruit and after 2 hrs I was hungry again or feeling fainting so I was eating again and then my lunch after 2 more hrs. I have switched to egg whites with some ham or cheese in the morning and that holds me so good that even at lunch time now I'm not too too hungry. Just regular so I dont' over ordering either like I used to. I only get hungry later in the afternoon and If I'm not I try to eat something anyway before I go to the gym. I love fruit and bread but I have stopped eating both lately and is so weird to me how I'm not getting too hungry anymore like I used to. Good luck to your efford anyway and if it works for you keep it up.
i started dieting in like october, and at first all i cut out was snacks - and that wasnt alot, just a chocolate busicut here and there, and sticking to meals rather than a few bags of crisps. seriously, the first few months i lost the most, purley from this type of dieting!
I really think snacking is an individual thing. I don't like snacks and I rarely would make a good choice if I did snack. I like hearty meals that leave me full and so that's where I pack in my calories.
My husband eats too fast during meals and has blood sugar problems so he must snack.
Im pretty new to this so I cant say whether or not it has good results but ive learned over the past week or so that snacking keeps me from binging. I grab a fiber bar or some fruit every 3-4 hours and im never hungry. Actually I was full all day and only had about 1100 cal.
I too have cut out snacking as well and have noticed that by doing so my weight remains at the lower end of my "range" (because at this point I am just maintaining). I make sure that each of my 3-meals-per-day fill me up to the point where I am completely satisfied and incorporate all of the nutritional elements- carbs, protein and fat (especially fruits and vegetables). Like others of you, I have also found that it helps me not to think about food as much, whereas before, I was constantly waiting for the next snack.. the next meal.. checking the clock. I was too obsessive about it. Now I can just have a big meal when it's time and then not have to worry about it for a good long while. Sometimes I get a little hungry in the late afternoon, but it's almost time for dinner so I hold off. Hot tea and gum definitely help with that!
