How many snacks should I eat in a day?
Asked by avrilla on Sep 24, 2009 in Weight Loss

I am at school a lot and so I don’t eat a lot but when I do eat, I don’t know what to eat.

Answer

Regardless of whether you call an eating experience a “meal” or a "snack”, at age 16, (like you), kids usually eat about five times a day. They eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a snack after school and often times a snack before bed if they are hungry.  Snacks should provide foods from the food groups to meet your nutrition needs.  Kids often choose cereal, milk and fruit, soup, whole wheat crackers and peanut butter, baby carrots and hummus, low-fat yogurt and fruit, a sandwich and milk, healthy cereal bars, or leftovers reheated in the microwave.
