Snacks at work

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone,

What would you replace a candy dish at work with?  My first instinct is to just get rid of them and have nothing but I work with several men and they just LOVE it when there are "treats".  I have brought fruit in, which was a hit, but I'm looking for something that will last awhile and won't break the bank.  Everyone always brings in candy because you can buy the JUMBO size but I'd like to move to healthier options for them.  Several of them don't need to be eating the crap anyways but they see it and can't help themselves!  So, any suggestions of what to replace the candy with and then how can I get my co-workers who are buying the candy to swich to something better?

Thanks for ANY advice!!

Mints are always a great choice, those little starlight mints. Maybe even sugar free chewing gum.

Maybe some individually packed fruit snacks or nuts, trail mix, raisins or any dried fruit, or peanut butter crackers.

Ummm why do you have a candy dish at all?  Is it on your desk?  Mindless eating should be done away with dont you think?

If it is on your desk, eliminate the temptation.  If it is in a community area, then let them fill the dish and you just worry about yourself resisting temptation.  All this grazing that we Americans do, we simply dont need it.

Eat to live, dont live to eat.

I'm lucky my work fills a fruit bowl twice a week for us, fruit is less expensive if you buy family sized bags of what ever is in season.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

I don't have the candy dish on my desk - there are 2 on my co-workers desk who sits about 3 feet away and huge buckets in two other offices.  I used to graze all the time but have learned to walk past the temptation.  My co-workers can't resist so I'd rather see them eat a piece of fruit than three or four small candy bars.  I know it's not my responsibility to see that they are resisting temptation but it's in my nature to try and replace bad with good.  Maybe I'll get a nice basket and check out the family bags of fruit.

Thanks again!

Hard candies in general, or anything that wont tempt you (tootsie rolls, smarties, suckers, etc), usually last a while :)

Keep a fruit basket at your desk... apples, bananas, oranges at your desk.  Just hide it so everyone doesn't come by to visit you just to snag them... that would get expensive.

maybe sugar-free hard candies? trail mix? nuts?

You could go with Xylitol sweets, but I would say be very careful as more than 3 or 4 makes your tummy run! :)

I would also recommend rather to stick with the fruit and even baby yoghurts. You can even put them in the freezer.

With the trail mixes and nuts etc you gotta kinda be careful... they taste so good that you end up grabbing more than one packet or handful and then that is just fat. :( darn... cause they do taste great!

Also as a side note - with any sweets, you should brush your teeth after as the sugar just sits there in your mouth and has a whale of a time! And I know that if I'm at the office and there's sweeties there, brushing my teeth is not exactly going to be on my list of piorities. :D
