I'm 18 and for the past year i've gotten in the habit of drinking, smoking weed, and smoking cigarettes every time i go out. Since this past year is basically the only year I've ever really been able to go out, im clueless as what to do for fun. I know I can watch movies and go out to eat, but my parents don't give me much money.

Any suggestions?

You're 18, how about getting a job to pay for your expenses (little things like utilities add up not to mention mortgages and rent) and for some spending money to go out?

There are plenty of free things to do in most areas.  Check your local paper for events that are happening and start going to them, you'll find which ones you prefer and can make future selections based on that.

I can't work, my parents won't let me. I live at home with my parents and go to California State University full time.

Check out activities through your CSU.  There are a lot of things sponsored by campus groups that are free or very cheap and many of them will be sober.

It might sound cheesy, but I love getting a bunch of friends together to play board games Laughing I love Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. Pick up a new hobby...learn how to bake, knit, paint, etc. If you love animals it could make you happy to volunteer at an animal shelter. There's lots of fun things you can do sober!

*puts on her halo and angel wings and flies away* :)

hm. thanks guys. i like the board game idea. what's one that a bunch of teens would like?

helloo!

I'm also a young, poor college student.  It is quite expensive to have the usual drinking fun of the college life, I know.  Lately I've been spending my Saturday/Sunday afternoons at a nearby lake.  Just laying out and relaxing with some of my friends. It's actually really nice and a lot of people don't even think to do things like that anymore.  There's also a place around here (I live in NC) with hiking and picnic tables and things like that.  Are there places like that near you? Take some friends and just chill outside from time to time.

I second the board game idea. My friends and I often have board game parties. Lots of games, lots of friends, lots of food...There are some REALLy fun games out there that will get you and your friends laughing outrageously all night! Cranium is lots of fun and will get a good laugh.

I'm glad you're making wiser choices about your lifestyle. You can enjoy life so much more without being high or buzzed.

any of the Cranium games. Card games are fun too...ever played Spoons? It's violent and stressful and a blast!

TWISTER! Laughing

I just googled Spoons (I was dying to know lol) and one of the tips was: Take your spoon secretively, don't make it obvious.

Is is just me, but how do you take a neatly layed out spoon from the middle of the table secretively?

*searches for teaspoon to hide up sleeve*

everybody is usually so intent on getting their 4 of a kind, that they don't keep an eye on the spoons until it's too late- works especially well if there's a newb playing :D

Word of advice if you play: make everybody remove their rings/watches! hehe

Third vote for Cranium. Also, nickle poker.

If this is true your parents need their heads examined. Getting a job and working is key to your future even if still in high school. You can't live off others. You need a good work ethic. How can they justify you not working? Amazing but probably what's wrong with this country right now. And finally...you're 18....they have no legal control over what you do.

yeah, but any 18 y/o still living at home knows that there is the law according to the government and then there is the law according to parents.

If you're under your parents roof, you tend to be under your parents law as well whether you like it/agree with it or not :D

Every teen I have played board/card games with LOVES Apples to Apples.

It very simple but hilarious every time. Have fun!

Ooh, Apples to Apples rocks. Also, if you are slightly nerdier, Set.

oh my gosh spoons! okay my trick is, until the last round, don't even look at the cards in your own hand.  I completely ignore my cards and just watch the pile of spoons. then when an opponent sneakily goes for one, BAM you grab one too.  Seriously, it's fool-proof and you'll make it to the last round every time.

If you stopped drinking, smoking weed and cigarettes, you'd probably have more money.

And your parents told you not to get a job? I'm sure they don't want you drinking and smoking, either, but that hasn't stopped you. Just get a job.

Are you taking classes during the summer? If not, then you are just hanging around doing nothing? How can that be better for you than getting a job, from your parent's point of view?

How do they feel about internships, or volunteering? Can you get a on-campus job?
