I'm addicted to salt in my food. This has proven to be very unhealthy, and even with cutting a lot of salt out of my diet, I still average about 1728mg of sodium (when I go to the analysis tab under my account). How can I cut out the salt without loosing the flavor of my food? Help!

The level of sodium you are eating now is fine. You can healthily go up to 2400 mg/day.

I'm a sodium-freak (I limit it as much as possible) and Mrs. Dash is a great substitute. Honestly, the longer you go with not adding salt, the more used to it you get. Finding low-sodium alternatives to dressings/sauces/etc. help. Getting used to the taste is half the battle. Tongue out

Geez I only WISH I could average 1700 mg per day. I watch my sodium but still end up around 3300, which is average (I blame the pickles and low-fat cheese, they load those with sodium!) and I never salt anything I cook. 2400 is a good number to shoot for and the recommended level on most health/nutrition sites I've seen. And 1700 is crazy low! Why exactly do you feel that this is still too high?

I dunno, I add adobo to almost everything i eat, and i log it too. I'm always craving more salt as well. Just had a feeling it was a tad high. Guess I was a little off my mark, haha.

I too wish I could average anything under 2000.  I typically average 3000+, and I NEVER add salt to my food.  It's because of all the processed food, it's really hard to keep sodium low if you don't make all your food from scratch.  :/

Same here, I average about 2700mg a day.  I've been eating more frutis and veggies and those are pretty low in salt.  Also, pasta is very low as well.

Try different spices and seasonings. I use a lot of pepper, Mrs Dash, cayenne pepper, curry powder, garlic powder. MUCH tastier than a bunch of salt.

1700 sodium (4.2g salt) is a low salt diet.  2400 (6g salt) is the recommended maximum daily intake.  If you want more flavour it helps to start with fresh, flavoursome ingredients and don't overcook them.  As everyone says, herbs and spices are a great way to add flavour.  I also find a sprinkle of highly-flavoured parmesan cheese works in place of salt.  As you add less salt to your cooking you'll become less 'salt tolerant' and you'll start to taste the food itself more.
