How much sodium?

Quote  |  Reply
I know that this has been discussed in the past but about how much sodium is a healthy level for weight loss? I know that some people cut out sodium all together. I cannot do that due to my schedule a lot of my food is prepackages/from a can so please DO NOT TELL ME TO NOT EAT SODIUM AT ALL.  I already know that is great for losing weight but I just want to know how much is a healthy amount.

Thank You ;)

Other then water weight, which isn't 'lost' or 'gained' real weight sodium doesn't really have much to do with weight loss. For your health, long term, keeping your sodium under 2400 mg is a good health goal.
thank you ;) That is exactly what I wantd to hear :)
Just wanted to say that I retain alot of water from sodium and yesterday I had 1.5 pieces of low fat ham and 1/2 baked beans and I stepped on the scale this morning and up 2 lbs...kinda scary how that can make such a difference...needless to say, I am learning from that and drinking lots of water today....
Actually, your body requires sodium to function properly.  So peopleho say they are not eating any sodium are lying =)
Yeppers, I hear the average RDI is about 900-2400. Lower is better. You do need some salts. The point, I think is most people have over 3000-4000 mg a day and you just dont need that much - it can cause helath problems. So if you can, avoid the salt. I still add a sprinkle to my oatmeal otherwise it tastes gross, but if there's a choice between two food products, similar cals, fat etc. I'll choose the lower sodium. And I dont eat frozen meals as they have RIDICULOUS amounts of sodium.

And sodium is in natural foods anyway. Its just people are eating more processed foods, which are often packed with sodium, so they're saying, dont add it, and try for no-added-salt varieties, but you cant avoid it totally.
