how much sodium?
How much sodium is reasonable? I buy everything "low sodium" but I still think I am getting way too much. I usually end up at about 2000 - 2500mg per day. This is too much, right?

That may be "normal" but not necessarily good for YOU. Keep in mind that the USDA isn't really based on what's the healthiest possible thing, but what the majority of people in the USA could reasonably shoot for as a moderately healthy goal.
It's actually the balance of potassium and sodium that really matters. If you get 2500mg sodium, then you need about 4500 to 5000mg of potassium, for a ratio of 1:2. You'll notice that the USDA has that right, at least.
Pay attention to your body's signals and you'll know if you've gotten too much sodium. Symptoms are things like headaches, dry skin, creaky joints, salty sweat, high blood pressure and/or heart palpitations, digestion problems.
If you drink your 2.2 liters of water a day, and get tons of potassium (especially from fruit), you shouldn't have to worry about sodium.

thanks venix :)
Creaky joints? My son complains of his legs hurting sometimes. I wonder if it is too much sodium. He is on a low salt diet, but doesn't pay attention to his salt intake as he should.
