How much sodium is normal? Is this too high?
So I entered all the food I will end up eating today, aside from probably a snack before bed, but my sodium intake is 3,064! That seems like so much! Here is what I ate:
Breakfast: cheese and crackers reduced fat
Snack:100 calorie muffin pack, some baby carrots
Lunch: Subway turkey breast sandwhich on wheat bread with baked lays
Dinner: Same as lunch
Snack: unknown at the moment
So is this a normal sodium count, or is it extremely high? How high is too high?
Do some research on your recomended daily values.

RDV:
sodium:2400mg
cholestoral:300mg
sugar:40g
fiber:25g
Unless you have specific health problems that make sodium bad, going over every so often probably won't do much. You might be a little heavier from water retention the next couple days, but it will go away, on it's own, and no one will notice it but you, so don't worry about it. =]
Crackers = salt
bread = salt
turkey breast (or any deli meats) = salt
baked lays = salt
muffins = salt
All have salt in the baking process. Keep in mind one teaspoon of salt equals 2500 mg. It doesn't take much salt to push your numbers sky high.
Oh okay thanks guys. Ugh I think my sodium is pretty high every day, maybe I should cut back on it! Also, is it bad not to have a lot of fruits and vegetables in my diet, like will I still lose weight and be pretty healthy? Or do I have to put more in? I usually eat more of them than today, but still not a lot.
Eat mostly veggies after 3pm, fruits before 3pm. You tend to be active earlier in the day, so it's easier to burn the sugars off, whereas you become a couch potato later in the evening, so you want the low cal veggies in your system at that hour.
The more veggies you eat, the healthier you'll be.
i know that just in the subway sandwich there is over 1000 !

this is based on a 2000 cal diet though. I asked this question as well.

3000+ is too high. Max you can have is 2500 mg per day. Crackers, subway sandwiches, muffin packs, lays, most of these are processed food and will likely have a lot of sodium. You can make your own turkey breast sandwich and reduce that sodium level significantly by choosing low sodium ingredients. By looking at that menu, you are also not getting enough calcium (no milk, yogurt.you have cheese but that's not enough and it's also high in fat) which is a metabolism booster. Not having veggies and fruit is going to slow down your weight loss process too, because you will be missing out on fiber.
Except for those of us with low blood pressure and need lots of sodium. Happy, happy day because I'm a saltaholic! Very low BP though and have been told my large salt intake was actually what I need to do. Probably pretty rare but John Hopkins site states 80/60 BP is the cutoff to very low BP, which needs treatment. Mine is usually 90/60...Yay for salt!
This is so different for every person. I eat tons of soiujm - like 4000-5000 mg a day and my RHR is 35-38 usually, my BP is usually about 80/60 and I have no adverse effects because of it. However someone with a different BP or HR wouldn't neccesarily be able to eat as much sodium as me. Its kind of like everything else...it really depends on the person.
ok thanks for all the replies. I usually do get more fruits and veggies in, but I was having a lazy sunday hehe.
